It has been a while since we saw him. Some of his best albums
came by on various occasions, but his third was still missing.
I do not have it personally, that is, not physical. This is the
digital version I once found somewhere, don’t remember
where it was. Had to polish up the data a bit and today
it finds its way to you too. Always loved Martinho da Vila’s
deep warm voice, his samba’s belong to the very best ..
Het is alweer een tijd geleden dat we iets van hem hadden.
Enkele van zijn beste albums passeerden al hier op de GG,
maar z’n derde miste we nog. Ik heb hem niet in de kast staan,
maar had hem wel digitaal, zelf ooit ergens gevonden, weet niet
meer waar. Ik moest de data hier en daar wat opfrissen en van-
daag vindt hij zijn weg naar jou. Martinho da Vila’s diepe warme
stem is prachtig en zijn samba behoort tot de allerbeste ..

Hello good morning, today we’ve got us some juju with
an artist we haven’t seen here yet. His real name is
Ismaila Ayodele Bello, he used to be an electronic repair
man. After fixing a guitar for King Sunny Adé the latter gave him
the name ‘Ahuja’. Ahuja appeared to be a natural talent and
made a career for himself. I found some articles on him,
check out and listen to Ahuja Bello &
his Golden Eagles Band ..
Goeiemorgen mensen, vandaag hebben we wat juju met een
artiest die we nog niet eerder zagen hier. Zijn werkelijke
naam is Ismaila Ayodele Bello, hij was ooit een electronica
reparateur . Nadat hij een gitaar voor King Sunny Adé
had gerepareerd gaf deze hem de naam ‘Ahuja’. Ahuja bleek
een natuur talent te zijn en begon een muziek carrière voor

As you know I’m a sucker for good vallenato. Every once in
a while an artist is posted which you didn’t see here yet.
Today’s turn is Oscar Negrete who became winner in one
of the first Festivals de Leyenda Vallenata in the children’s
category. As an adolescent he pulled that stunt once again.
In 1975 he teamed up with singer Adalberto Ariño and
made this album. Listen and make up your mind ..
Zoals je weet ben ik dol op een knap stukje vallenato. Eens
in de zoveel tijd posten we een artiest die hier nog niet eerder
verscheen. Vandaag valt de beurt aan Oscar Negrete die in één
van de eerste Festivals de la Leyenda Vallenata winnaar werd in
de kids categorie en dit nog eens deed in zijn puberteit. In
1975 maakte hij met zanger Adalberto Ariño deze plaat.

One of my favourite Cuban singers is Monguito ‘El Unico’.
The first time I heard him must have been through ‘Sabrosura’
with Johnny Pacheco from 1980 on Fania. From that moment
on I bought every album I found. A great discovery also was
when I heard him on Arsenio Rodriguez’ album ‘Primitivo’.
Monguito’s nasal voice is indeed unique .. listen ..
Eén van m’n favoriete Cubaanse zangers is Monguito ‘El Unico’.
Ik moet hem voor het eerst gehoord hebben op ‘Sabrosura’,
met Johhny Pacheco op Fania uit 1980. Vanaf dat moment ben
ik alles gaan kopen wat ik maar van hem tegenkwam. Een ont-

Jean-Baptiste. Later there was a dispute with his
former band mate Webert Sicot about it. The two
rivals took lyrical jabs at each other through their
