1969 on Decca. They play a mixture of styles from pop and soul
to rumba, bolero, pachanga and highlife, happy sound.
Unfortunately track nine has some nasty pops..

eerste plaat uit 1969 op Decca. Ze spelen een bonte mix van pop
en soul tot rumba, bolero pachanga en highlife, happy sound.

Ali Chuks & his Peace Makers International

We kennen hem als Ali Chukwuma maar op deze plaat heet hij
Ali Chuks. Betoverende highlife brengt ie, de magie druipt uit
de speakers en brengt de luisteraar in zekere vervoering. reeds
vier jaar voor Ikenga Super Stars of Africa komt ook Ali Chuks
met een ode aan Celestine Ukwu. Deze is reeds uit 1976, op
Editions Namaco Nigeria Ltd. De hoes van de plaat is tamelijk
aangedaan maar het vinyl zelf verkeert in behoorlijke staat.

We know him as Ali Chukwuma but on this album he’s called
Ali Chuks. The highlife is Fascinating and brings the listener
under a certain spell. Ali Chuks brings an ode to late Celestine Ukwu
on this record, four years before Ikenga Super Stars of Africa do the
same. It is from 1976 and on Editions Namaco Nigeria Ltd. The
sleeve of the elpee is quite worn out but the vinyl is in reason-
able condition. Listen to the Peace Makers International..

Jaren geleden ben ik eens tegen deze plaat aan gelopen tijdens
een middagje crate diggen. Helaas blijkt hij nogal krakerig te zijn.
Omdat het hier toch een tamelijk zeldzaam album betreft wilde
ik hem je niet onthouden. Uit 1976, op Editions Jicco (Nigeria).
Discogs claimt dat het soukous is maar het is natuurlijk prachtige
benga. Ondanks de kraakjes zeer de moeite waard denk ik..
Years back, on an afternoon crate digging, I stumbled upon this
record. Unfortunately it seemed quite noisy but because it turns
out to be quite a rare album I didn’t want to deny it to you anyway.
From 1976, on Editions Jicco (Nigeria). Discogs claims it to be
soukous but it concerns an elpee of lovely benga of course.
Despite the noise I think it is worth at least a couple of spins..

Celina Gonzalez en haar krachtige vokalen stellen nooit teleur.
Ze verschijnt op deze plaat met de groep van Adalberto Alvarez.
de son is door de jaren heen wel een stuk moderner gaan klinken
maar is nog steeds zeer de moeite waard. Celina is de motor die
de sound tot zekere hoogte draagt. geproduceerd

Sammy Massa – Gare a Toi Mon Ami
Disc’Orient 1981
We heard him on one of Syran M’Benza’s albums but this is the first one
we have under this name. A little disturbance at the beginning of the album
and a little further on. With Dizzy Mandjeku, Syran M’benza, Lokassa ya
Mbongo, Bopol, and many more. Recorded in Côte d’Ivoire. I think Sammy
Massa is the same as Bumba Massa, can anyone confirm ? The web is not
very clear about it..
We hoorden hem al op een van Syram M’benza’s platen, dit is de eerste
echter die we hebben onder deze naam. Hij kraakt ietsje aan het begin
en ook wat verderop. Met Dizzy Mandjeku, Syran M’benza, Lokassa
ya Mbongo, Bopol, en vele anderen. Opgenomen in Côte d’Ivoire. Volgens
mij is Sammy Massa dezelfde als Bumba Massa, kan iemand dit bevestigen ?

Abel Antonio Villa – Realeza Vallenata vol. 3
Fontana 1979
Abel Antonio Villa Begon zijn bestaan als muzikant al op 9 jarige leeftijd.
Hij werd de ‘Vader van de Accordeon’ genoemd omdat hij de eerste was die
met het instrument commerciele opnamen maakte. Abel Antonio Villa wordt
samen met Emiliano Zuleta Baquero, Francisco Rada Batista, Luiz Enrique
Martinez, Juancho Polo Valencia en Alejandro Durán gezien als één van de
grootsten in het veld. In 1943 werd Abel Antonio vijf nachten dood gewaand.
Hij schreef daarna zijn iconische nummer ‘De Dood van Abel Antonio’, ‘La
Muerte de Abel Antonio’. Na deze gebeurtenis bleef hij zijn hele leven in het
wit gekleed ter nagedachtenis aan zijn vijf nachten van waken. Nummer acht
op deze plaat, ‘Cinco Noches de Velorio’, ‘Vijf Nachten van Waken’ refereert
aan deze bizarre gebeurtenis. Luister en huiver..

Ik heb als bonus twee versies van ‘La Muerte de Abel Antonio’ bijgevoegd.
Abel Antonio Villa started his musical career age nine. He was called ‘Father
of the Acordeon’ because he was the first one to take the instrument to the
studio for commercial recordings. Abel Antonio Villa is mentioned together
with Emiliano Zuleta Baquero, Francisco Rada Batista, Luiz Enrique Martinez,
Juancho Polo Valencia and Alejandro Durán as one of the greatest in the field.
In 1943 Abel Antonio was assumed dead for five nights. He then wrote the iconic
‘the death of Abel Antonio’, ‘La Muerte de Abel Antonio’. After this bizarre event
he remained dressing in white his entire life in memory of this death wake. Track
number eight on this album, ‘Cinco Noches de Velorio’ refers to it.

Orchestre Septentrional started out back in 1965. This album is
from 1975, ten years later. They were also called La Boule de
Feu d’Haiti. Wonderful name don’t you think ? It is hard to find
a whole lot of information about the group so we’ll have to settle
for listening to the music instead. Orchestral compas gets better
the more you listen to it. I challenge you to give it a try ..
Orchestre Septentrional begon lang geleden in 1965, deze plaat is
van tien jaar later dus uit 1975. Ze werden ook wel La Boule de Feu
d’Haiti genoemd, een prachtige naam vind je ook niet ? Het is tamelijk
lastig veel informatie over de band te vinden dus we zullen het met
luisteren moeten doen. Orkestrale compas wordt alsmaar beter hoe

On Discafrique and from 1988 we’ve got this collector of Zimbabwe
Hits. It contains various styles like Chimurenga and Zimpop for instance.
It is the third volume in this series of which I hope to find volumes one
and two some fine day. For now enjoy Advance Kusugar !
Op Discafrique en uit 1988 hebben we deze verzamelaar van Zimbabawe
Hits. Hij bevat verschillende stijlen muziek waaronder Chimurenga en Zim-
pop. Het is volume drie in deze serie waarvan ik de nummers één en twee

So far we had one of his records, Alberto Pacheco’s albums are not
available in numbers. We are lucky to have this second elpee here
at the GG. With Calilla, Ignacio Arteaga, Alcides Carillo, Enrique Pertuz,
José Avilés, Jaime Villalobos, Segundo Rivera and Javier Yepes. Vocals
by José Alvarez and Alberto Pacheco. Paseo, Parranda, Merengue and
Puya are the styles represented. Alberto Pacheco was the winner of
the fourth Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata. Get it and spread it..
Tot dusver hadden we slechts één van zijn platen, Alberto Pacheco’s
albums liggen nu niet direct voor het oprapen. We hebben dan ook
geluk vandaag deze tweede elpee van zijn hand te brengen hier op

Zij was een van de belangrijkste vertolkers van het werk van
Noel Rosa. Kant twee van dit album bestaat volledig uit songs
van zijn hand. Op kant één vinden we nummers van verschillende
andere artiesten. Haar stem heeft me vanaf de eerste noten die
ik ooit hoorde gefascineerd. Kijk eens wat jij ervan vindt.

It was in october 2015 that we already had Keba Na Ye, an album
from 1982 by his hand. Today a follow up on that one, an album we
don’t find on Discogs or Google. We also can’t seem to find a year
of release on this record. Next to Marcus Mvouka we find Emmanuel
Bouetoumoussa who plays guitar, both solo and rhythmic, bass, drums
and percussions and tumbas. Marcus Mvouka does vocals including
backing and also first and second trumpet. Quite an achievement for
two guys. Get it and spread it if you can, enjoy listening..
Het was in oktober 2015 dat we reeds één van zijn platen hadden,
het betrof Keba Na Ye uit 1982 van zijn hand.
Vandaag dus de lang verwachte opvolger. Over dit album kon ik niets
vinden op Discogs en ook niet op Google. Tevens is geen jaar van uitgave
bekend. Naast Marcus Mvouka vinden we Emmanuel Bouetoumoussa op
solo, ritme en bas gitaar, en ook op drums, percussie en tumbas. Marcus
Mvouka zingt, ook de achtergrond vokalen en speelt eerste en tweede
trompet. Een tamelijk knap staaltje voor twee man. Luister en
geef hem weer door als je kunt..
