Good morning, today we find us yet another album with
Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited. His chimurenga
has distinctive style and is to be recognized from thousands.
I have been a fan since the very first time I laid my ears on his
music. The record we have today is from 1993, maybe not his
best, but absolutely worth a couple of spins. We had eleven
other elpees with him, ten earlier and one later than this one.

Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited, Zijn chimurenga heeft
een zeer onderscheidend geluid en is altijd onmiddelijk her-
kenbaar. Vanaf de eerste keer dat ik naar zijn muziek luisterde
ben ik een fan. De plaat die we hier hebben is uit 1993, misschien
niet z’n allerbeste, maar zeker waard om eens een paar keer te
draaien. We hadden al elf van zijn andere elpees, tien oudere
en één nieuwere. Luister en geniet van Thomas

Hi, goeiemorgen, vandaag gaan we terug in de wintertijd. Wintertijd
is de originele tijd. Elk jaar krijgen we 7 maanden zomertijd, van het
laatste weekend in oktober tot het laatste weekend in maart echter
gaat de klok weer een uurtje achteruit naar ‘real time’. Een uurtje
extra dus om deze post te maken, eens zien ..
Dit is een album met de zoon van de oude Pacho Rada, Pachito Rada
Ortiz. De plaat is op Discos Fuentes en uit 1978.Vallenato

This album with Nelson Sargento was originally released in 1979.
Today we find the digitized re-release from 1997. Nelson Sargento
used to be part of two legendary groups, Conjunto a Voz do Morro
and Os Cinco Crioulos in the sixties. It took until 1979 for him to
release this album, his first solo project.

Dit album komt oorspronkelijk uit 1979, vandaag vinden we deze
heruitgave, gedigitaliseerd en uit 1997. Nelson Sargento maakte
deel uit van de legendarische groepen Conjunto a Voz do Morro
en Os Cinco Crioulos in de jaren zestig. Het duurde echter tot 1979
voordat hij zijn eerste solo album uitbracht, en wel deze.

Pedro Laza. It is one made in 1968 and with ‘Su Banda’.
The tracks are mostly instrumental renditions of well
known songs. Pedro laza has been active from 1937
to 1980. Carnavalesque Band Sound
with bombardon or sousaphone.
Vandaag vinden we nog een plaat met Colombiaanse
band leider Pedro Laza. Dit is er een met ‘Su Banda’.

Jali Musa Jawara was a son of the same mother as another
kora player, Mory Kante. This cd is made with a small
ensemble. It has become one of the classic albums in the
style. Balafon by Jalimorijan Kuyateh. Jali Musa is originally
from Guinée but the music is typical for both the south of
Guinée and Mali, Mandingo. Wonderful vocal performances ..
Jali Musa Jawara was de zoon van dezelfde moeder als een
andere bekende kora speler, Mory Kante. Deze cd staat op
zijn naam, maar is in feite met een klein ensemble gemaakt.
Een kleine groep vrouwen die voor de prachtige vokalen zorgen
en ballafoon door Jalimorijan Kuyateh. Jali Musa komt uit Guinée,
de muziek is typisch voor het zuiden van Guinée en Mali, mandingo.

dos Santos, better known as Jamelão. He used to be the
official singer of the famous Mangueira Samba School
from 1949 to 2006. This album contains various samba

Samba-Médio and Samba de Duda ..

In 1983 Sir Waziri launched his own record label, Waziri
Records. This is the first release under that name. I’m
sorry for its quite bad sound quality, but I’m sure we had
worse. Part from that it is a valuable addition to Waziri’s

In 1983 lanceerde Sir Waziri Oshomah zijn eigen platen
label Waziri Records. Dit is het eerste album op dat label.
Het spijt me voor de tamelijk slechte geluids kwaliteit, maar
ik weet zeker dat we ze nog wel beroerder hebben gehad.
Los daarvan is dit een waardevolle tovoeging aan zijn
prachtige oeuvre. Luister nogmaals naar

Pedro Laza was born in Cartagena in 1904. In 1932 he began his first
group, the Bolivar Student Band. When jazz became popular he started
to play the double bass. A new ensemble called Orquesta Nueva Granada
was the next step. In those days the professional relation with Antonio
Fuentes took place. The first records were made in 1937. Laza comes on
the payroll of Orquesta Emisora Fuentes and works as bassplayer and
arranger. In 1952 he begins his group Sonora Pelayera which later
changes in Pedro Laza y sus Pelayeros. It is to honour the town San
Pelayo where ‘Porro’ first appeared. Great exponents of the style
were Climaco Sarmiento, Lalo Orozco and Rufo Garrido amongst
others, but none of them were from San Pelayo. Pedro Laza
recorded over 30 albums with Toño Fuentes in his life. In 1960
he became part of La Sonora Dinamita a group founded by Toño
Fuentes. His music stands symbol for the rise of Colombian
record industry. Pedro laza died on the 4th of April 1980
in his birthground Cartagena de Indias ..
Pedro Laza werd geboren in Cartagena in 1904. In 1932 begon hij zijn
eerste groep, de Bolivar Studenten Band. Toen jazz populair werd ging
hij contrabas spelen. Een nieuw ensemble genaamd Orquesta Nueva
Granada was het gevolg. In die dagen begon ook zijn professionele relatie
met Antonio Fuentes. De eerste platen werden gemaakt in 1937. Laza komt
op de loonlijst van Orquesta Emisora Fuentes en werkt als bassist en arran-
geur. In 1952 begint hij zijn groep Sonora Pelayera welke later verandert
in Pedro Laza y sus Pelayeros. Hij eert daarmee de plaats San Pelayo waar
de ‘Porro’ vandaan komt. Grote exponenten van de porro waren o.a. Rufo Garrido,
Lalo Orozco en Climaco Sarmiento, maar geen van hen komt uit
San Pelayo. Pedro Laza nam meer dan 30 platen op met Toño Fuentes.
In 1960 maakte hij deel uit van La Sonora Dinamita, een groep opgericht
door zakenman Toño Fuentes. Pedro Laza’s muziek staat symbool voor
de opkomst van de Colombiaanse platen industrie. Hij overleed
op 4 April 1980 in zijn geboorte land Cartagena de Indias ..
