Mamadou Doumbia – Café Ivoire
Eboni Records ER 0008
If we Google Mamadou Doumbia, we find lots of pages
concerning the Ivorian football player with the same name.
About the artist very little is to be found. A small bio on
musicinafrica.net is about all. One way or the other, his
music is quite enjoyable so just listen ..

Pablo Moses – Pave the Way
Mango / Island Records 1981
When I saw HTD‘s posts on Pablo Moses last month,
it took me back to 1981 when I bought my first album
with him. It was a long time ago since I played ‘Pave
the Way’. Listening now while recording it all comes
back. Over 40 years later it still sounds quite fresh ..

Prince Buster Record Shack Presents
The Original Golden Oldies vol. 1
Prince Buster Record Shack PB 9
Good morning, you may have noticed low activity, time
has been limited the past few weeks. Let’s say it is holiday
season and other things had priority. Let’s see ..
This is an old prince Buster album on which no info was
available easily. The sleeve and label only speak of ten songs
while in fact the record counts twelve. Luckily nowadays we
have the tools to find the correct titles. This elpee contains
the song ‘Madness’ where the Brittish group took its name
from. Further we find only golden oldies as the title already
suggests. Lovely ska songs you can’t afford to miss ..
telt.
Verder vinden
we alleen golden oldies zoals de titel al doet vermoeden ..

El Cieguito de Nagua
Cieguito de Nagua
Karen Records 1978
As long time sucker for accordion music I keep coming back to
the fastest sound in the field, the merengue ripao from the
Dominican republic. On this album we find ‘El Cieguito de
Nagua’, the blind man from Nagua. Inimitable smart play
by El Cieguito, one of the favourite things
to play while driving my car ..

Chief I.I. Ayeni & his Group
Ora Traditional Songs vol. 1
Ijebor Trading Stores 1978
One of the slowest and laidback sounds we find in our
Etsakor section is the music of I.I. Ayeni & his Group.
We’ve been dreaming on three of his albums so far,
today we find the fourth. Mesmerizing deep
highlife with the Chief ..
sounds in onze Etsakor hoek komt van deze man, I.I.
Ayeni & his Group.
zitten wegdromen, vandaag nummer vier. Diepe
en biologerende highlife met de Chief ..

Ali CHukwumah & his
Peace Makers International
the Music of the Good People
Editions Namaco 1976
Editions Namaco calls it native blues, a nice term, but we know
this music as Igbo Highlife of course. Together with stars like
Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe, Celestine Ukwu, Mike Ejeagha
and others, Ali Chukwumah was one of the most influential
figures in the field. This is an early album with Ali, from 1976.
Always a joy to find another record with him, such gentle
and smooth highlife, enjoy listening again ..
We kennen

Komala Express
Ochieng’ Nelly was born Nelson Ochieng Orwa in 1943 in South Nyanza.
He began playing the guitar in his teenage years after being taught
and inspired by the pioneering Congolese Musician Adolf Banyore.
Ochieng’ Nelly got his first guitar in 1961. He travelled widely through
Uganda, Congo and other African countries. He was widely exposed to
Congolese guitar playing styles. He developed his own unique playing
style that was later a big influence to the sound of The Ogara Boys Band,
and Benga music in general.
Nelly worked with his Congolese mentor for a while before joining The
Ogara Boys Band in 1962. The Ogara Boys Band consisting of founding
member John Ogara Odondi and Aketch Oyosi was formed in 1960. Together
the trio started and developed a unique sound that got the name Benga,
in 1963. In 1966, Nelly left Ogara Boys Band to pursue his career
elsewhere. He briefly collaborated with another Benga legend, George
Ramogi. Ochieng’ Nelly has produced several songs such as: Monica Abio,
Ombua Akelo, Celestine Juma, Samuel Aketch among others. His story is
featured extensively in the Ketebul Music produced documentary: Retracing
The Benga Rhythm Through Ochieng’ Nelly’s music, the legend of yester
years Benga , still lives on.
