Ary Lobo was een van de Voornaamste vertolkers van
forró, muziek uit Noord Oost Brazilië. Ik heb deze versie
van Súplica Cearense uit 1971. Het betreft de mono
uitvoering. In 1973 werd hij in stereo uitgebracht. Het
is een beetje vreemd dat hij deze titel opnieuw gebruikt
omdat er origineel in 1966 een plaat werd gelanceerd die
zo heet. Ik heb deze ( door mij zelf ergens neergeladen)
variant ook gepost. Vergelijk de twee eens met elkaar.
Sommige van zijn songs zoals de titel song zijn meer
samba dan forró. Heerlijke sound ..
Ary Lobo was one of the main interpreters of forró, music
from the North East region in Brazil. I have this version of
Súplica Cearense from 1971. It concerns the mono version.
In 1973 it was released in stereo. It is a little strange he used
this title again because in 1966 the original Súplica Cearense
was issued. A completely different album, only two songs
appear on both. I have also posted this (by myself down-
loaded) 1966 version for you to compare the two. Some
of his songs, like the title-one, are more samba than

We hadden tot nu toe slechts één plaat met Pedro Garcia
en zijn Cañaguateros. Zijn vallenato verdient meer. Vandaag
dus nog maar eens eentje. Al is er over Pedro niet veel te
vinden, hij was in zijn hoogtij dagen zeker geen kleine jongen
in z’n metier. In zijn discografie zien we onder andere een
plaat saman met de grote Anibal Velasquez. Hij was ook goed
bevriend met Alfredo Gutierrez. Zijn ‘Vendaval’ werd gebruikt
als thema van een soap serie en werd daardoor zeer bekend.
Van deze plaat weten we geen jaar en hij komt ook niet voor
op Discogs. Luister naar Los Cañaguateros ..
So far we only had one other album with Pedro Garcia and

Today a second post. Although we can’t seem to find a whole
lot about him, he sure wasn’t a small player in his days. In his
discography we find a record with the great Anibal Velasquez
among others. He was a close friend of Alfredo Gutierrez. His
song Vendaval was used as theme for some soap and got quite
famous. From this lp we don’t know a year and it is not in

I first discovered Carlos Roman through his hit song ‘Very
Very Well’, must have been around 2000. It was on ‘Lo Mejor
de 14 Cañonazos Bailables Vol. 1’. Over the years a few other
songs popped up along the way. When I was visiting some
of my friends in record collecting yesterday, I found this here
album with Carlos and his Conjunto. Super nice and rare lp
I couldn’t resist buying and share with you. Carlos Roman
mixed traditional styles such as cumbia, charanga and
merengue with twist and rock. Incredibly happy party
music from Colombia’s 60’s. No exact year is known.
I have added a few other songs to complete the fun ..
Ik ontdekte het werk van Carlos Roman door de hit ‘Very
Very Well’, zal ergens rond 2000 zijn geweest. Het staat
op ‘Lo Mejor de 14 Cañonazos Vol. 1’. Door de jaren doken
er nog enkele liedjes van hem op. Toen ik gisteren een paar
platenvrienden bezocht vond ik dit album met Carlos en zijn
Conjunto. Geweldig fijne en zeldzame vondst die ik direct
met jullie wil delen. Carlos Roman mixte traditionele stijlen
zoals cumbia, charanga en merengue met twist en rock.
Ongelooflijk blije sound uit Colombia’s 60’s. Geen exact
jaar is duidelijk. Ik heb enkele nummers toegevoegd
om het geheel te completeren ..

We have seen various albums with the great Aniceto Molina.
This is the first on which he appears with Los Tiburones. I’m
not sure if Pepe Molina and Anastacio Molina are brothers
of Aniceto. Together with Alfredo Varela the three form
Los Tiburones. This fine record contains cumbia, porro,
guacón, tiquita, pompo, chandé, paseo, paseaíto, gaita
and joropo. A variety of styles unique for Colombian

Door de jaren hebben we al een aardige zwik platen gezien
met accordeonist Aniceto Molina. Dit is de eerste keer dat
hij verschijnt met Los Tiburones. Ik weet niet zeker of Pepe
Molina en Anastacio Molina broers zijn van Aniceto. Samen

Today we go back to the sound of Etsakor with General Boliviia
Osigbemhe & the Great Santanas. It concerns this 1981 record.
Discogs can now add the picture of ‘Nobody is Free’ which was
still missing. The vinyl looks pretty good but the sound is a bit
poor I’m afraid. A lot of crackle. Maybe our good blog friend
Richard of Soundpatrol can help us. He does a great job remo-
ving all types of background noise. I once said, just imagine
listening by the fireside, Richard makes this no longer
necessary. From now I shall add the cleaned versions
of Soundpatrol. Enjoy the music of
Boliviia Osigbemhe ..
We gaan vandaag weer eens verder met de sound van Etsakor
met General Boloiviia Osigbemhe & the Great Santanas. Het
betreft hier dit album uit 1981. Discogs kan nu de hoes van
‘Nobody is Free’ toevoegen, deze ontbrak nog in het rijtje.
Het vinyl ziet er behoorlijk goed uit, maar klinkt helaas iets
minder, hij kraakt nogal. Misschien kan onze goede blog
vriend Richard van Soundpatrol helpen. Hij is zeer goed
in het opknappen van dit soort geluid. Ik zei ooit, stel je
voor dat je luistert bij een knapperend haardvuurtje,
dit hoeft dan niet langer. Ik zal voortaan de schone
bestanden van Soundpatrol toevoegen.

Cascarita, real name Orlando Guerra, was a Cuban singer
who began his career in Cuba and then moved to Mexico
in 1960. This album is a Mexican release from 1968. It has
son montuno, guaguancó, guaracha and guaracha-mambo.
cascarita worked with Bebo Valdés, Casino de la Playa and
Beny Moré among others. On this record he appears with
La Orquesta de Memo Salamanca ..
Cascarita, echte naam Orlando Guerra, was een Cubaanse
zanger die zijn carrière begon in Cuba en in 1960 naar Mexico
verhuisde. Dit is een Mexicaanse uitgave uit 1968. Hij bevat
son montuno, guaguancó, guaracha en guaracha-mambo.
Cascarita werkte o.a. met Bebo Valdés, Casino de la Playa

ze niet thuis horen. Een mazzeltje voor de liefhebbers onder
jullie. Zijn highlife behoort tot de beste die er is. met zanger

bit more highlife from Ghana. The album we have here also
contains two reggae tracks but were performed by Jerry
Hansen and his Ramblers International. There are three
highlife songs as well. Just what you were looking
for. Get it and spread it as usual ..
De Todd Rundgren van vanmorgen was een extraatje. Laat
ik nu maar weer even verder gaan bij het laatste verzoekje,
nl. het posten van nog wat Ghanese muziek. De plaat die we
hier hebben bevat ook twee reggae tracks, maar werd op-
genomen door jerry Hansen en zijn Ramblers International.
Er staan ook drie highlife songs op, net wat je wilde

When I was a young boy I listened a lot to the music of
Todd Rundgren. Especially ‘A Wizard A True Star’ was one
of my favourite albums. Just 16 years old, it captured me
from the beginning. This is Todd’s first solo record after
stepping out of ‘Nazz’ where he began his career. I was
digitizing it for myself and thought, why not post it for
you to listen to as well. I’ll post ‘A Wizard A True Star’
some day later. For now listen to ‘Runt’ ..
Als jonge jongen luisterde ik een hoop naar de muziek
van Todd Rundgren. In het bijzonder ‘A Wizard A True Star’
was een favoriet. Slechts 16 jaar oud, was ik er enorm van
onder de indruk. Dit is Todd’s eerste solo album nadat hij
uit ‘Nazz’ stapte waar hij zijn carrière zo’n beetje in begon.
Ik was hem aan het digitaliseren en dacht, waarom niet
gelijk posten zodat jullie er ook naar kunnen luisteren.
‘A Wizard A True Star’ zal ik ook op een mooie dag nog
eens brengen. Voor nu, luister naar ‘Runt’ ..

Slim Young – Bisa

One of our visitors was wondering why we didn’t have
Ghanaian highlife so long. Well Edwin, it is simply because
the main part of my records from Ghana has already been
posted. There are some left however. Today’s post concerns
an album from 1987 by Slim Young. It is his latest record which
was very popular in West Africa. Slim Young died in november
2001. See the back sleeve in the file for line-up ..
Ik kreeg de vraag van een van onze bezoekers waarom er al zo’n
tijd geen Ghanese highlife was. Tja Edwin, dat is eenvoudigweg
omdat ik de meeste Ghanese platen uit de collectie al gepost
heb. Er zijn er nog wel een paar over hoor. Vandaag hebben we
een plaat met Slim Young uit 1987. Het is zijn laatste welke in
West Afrika tamelijk goed werd ontvangen. Slim Young
overleed in november, 2001. Kijk voor de bezetting,
in de file, op de achterkant van de plaat ..

Willy Adé and his Aiyemitogo Band – Itan Olode

In our Joryba-Juju section we find this quite rare album with
Willy Adé and his Aiyemitogo Band. No idea if he is related
to King Sunny. Music-wise it does not give the impression
he is. Once again, the web does not find him and the lp’s
sleeve also remains silent. Its back sleeve displays a quite
tasteless picture of Willy doing a silly guitar trick while
putting his foot on the back of the little man besides
him. One way or the other, the juju has something
primitive I like. Little disturbance

In onze Yoruba-Juju sectie vinden we deze tamelijk zeldzame
plaat met Willy Adé en zijn Aiyemitogo Band, Geen idee of
Willy familie is van King Sunny, muzikaal lijkt het er niet op.
Ook over dit album en zijn maker is op het web niets te
vinden. De achterkant toont ons een behoorlijk smakelo-
ze foto van Willy die een flauwe gitaar truc doet met
zijn voet op de kleine man naast hem. Hoe dan ook,
de juju heeft iets primitiefs wat ik wèl mooi

This is the second entry with Great Ojo, this time with
his Family Nobel Dance Band. I gave no information
with the previous post, simply because I don’t have
any. The web also doesn’t give us what we’re looking
for. I found out it concerns Edo Highlife, that’s all

Dit is de tweede post met Great Ojo, dit keer verschijnt
hij met zijn Family Noble Dance Band. Ik gaf bij de vorige
plaat al geen info, eenvoudigweg omdat ik die niet heb.
Op het web vinden we ook niet wat we zouden willen.
We hebben het over Edo Highlife, meer weet ik niet.
