Good morning, this is the second album we have with trumpeteer
Etubom Rex Williams on which we don’t hear him play the trumpet.
I don’t know why. According to the discograpy on Discogs we are
absolutely dealing with the same Etubom Rex Williams. On the
covers of his early albums we see him with trumpet. This record
appears there as well. Just like the one we had in june 2019.
One way or the other, although a little dusty and absolutely
guitar based, the highlife is quite enjoyable, side
one sounds better than side two ..
Goeiemorgen, dit is vandaag al de tweede plaat die we vinden
met trompettist Etubom Rex Williams waarop we hem geen noot
trompet horen spelen. Ik weet niet waarom. Volgens de discografie
op Discogs hebben we hier toch echt met dezelfde Etubom Rex
Williams te maken. Op de hoezen van zijn eerdere platen zien we
hem met trompet. Deze elpee staat er ook bij. Net als degene
die we in juni van 2019 hadden. Hoe dan ook, hoewel een beetje
stoffig en absoluut op gitaar gestoeld, de highlife is tamelijk okay.

a trip to Portugal to find me some Angolan records. It
was an adventure not to forget. In Lisbon I was kinda
lucky and found quite some. Most of them were already

Weet je nog, in 2018 kon men vrij reizen. Ik heb toen een
tripje gemaakt naar Portugal om wat platen uit Angola te
vinden. Het was een leuk avontuur en ik had redelijk wat
geluk. In Lissabon vond ik een aardig stapeltje platen
waarvan dit een van de laatste is die ik nog niet had

Bezoekers van de Global Groove laten niet allemaal een bericht
achter. Aan download en bezoekers aantallen kan ik echter wel
altijd zien wat men vindt van wat ik post. De forró thema week
heeft duidelijk maar weinig enthousiasme gegenereerd.
Jammer, maar dat gebeurt. Laten we zeggen dat niet
iedereen dezelfde smaak heeft ..
Ik zou mezelf niet zijn als ik niet afmaak waar ik aan begin. Vandaag
daarom dag zeven van de forró thema week. Benedito Nunes zagen
we al eens eerder, hij was geen hoogvlieger, maar ik vind zijn geluid
tamelijk sympathiek. Deze laatste bijdrage aan een weekje forró
stamt uit 1973. Tegen de niet-liefhebbers zeg ik, “bedankt voor
het geduld”, tegen de liefhebber, “veel luisterplezier ..”
Visitors of the Global Groove do not all leave a message. From
download and visitor numbers however, I can always see what
people think of what I am posting. The forró theme week clearly
did not generate a whole lot of enthusiasm. Shame, but that
happens. Let’s say not everybody likes the same ..
I would not be myself however if I didn’t finish what I started.
Therefore today, day seven of our forró theme week. We saw
Benedito Nunes on one earlier occasion, he was not the most
famous singer, but I think his sound is quite sympathetic. This
final contribution to the forró theme week is from 1973. To all
none forró lovers I say, “thank you for your patience”, to
the lovers of the genre, “enjoy listening ..”

He was called king of the Baião , O Rei do Baião.
Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento, Sr. was a Brazillian singer, song-
writer, musician and poet and one of the most influential figu-
res of Brazillian popular music in the 20th century. Born in 1912
he was the first to bring the musical genre Baião and brought it
to all of Brazil. An important dam was named after him in his honor.
His son ‘Gonzaguinha’ also was as a famous Brazillian singer.

Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento, Sr. was een Braziliaanse zanger,
songwriter, muzikant en poëet en een van de meest invloedrijke
figuren van de Braziliaanse populaire muziek in de 20ste eeuw.
Geboren in 1912 was hij de eerste die het muzikale genre Baião
ten gehore bracht in heel Brazilië. Een belangrijke dam werd naar
hem genoemd. Zijn zoon ‘Gonzaguinha’ was ook een populaire

have this round. Over the years this pleasant Brazillian style
was neglected somehow. Only nine albums in 13 years. Let’s
have us some. First up is Genival Lacerda, he died in january
of complications resulting from COVID-19. This album contains
one of his biggest hits ‘Severina Xique Xique’. Discogs shows
us some 52 albums of which this is nº 10. Enjoy listening ..
Laten we eens een thema weekje maken met forró. Uma
Semana Forrozera. Deze prettige Braziliaanse muziek stijl
is enigszins ondergesneeuwd door de jaren. Slechts negen
albums in 13 jaar is wel erg weinig. We trappen af met
Genival Lacerda. Hij overleed in januari aan de gevolgen
van COVID-19. Deze plaat bevat een van zijn grootste hits
‘Severina Xique Xique’. Discogs heeft zo’n 52 van zijn lp’s
waarvan dit nº 10 is. Veel luisterplezier ..

Ary Lobo was een van de Voornaamste vertolkers van
forró, muziek uit Noord Oost Brazilië. Ik heb deze versie
van Súplica Cearense uit 1971. Het betreft de mono
uitvoering. In 1973 werd hij in stereo uitgebracht. Het
is een beetje vreemd dat hij deze titel opnieuw gebruikt
omdat er origineel in 1966 een plaat werd gelanceerd die
zo heet. Ik heb deze ( door mij zelf ergens neergeladen)
variant ook gepost. Vergelijk de twee eens met elkaar.
Sommige van zijn songs zoals de titel song zijn meer
samba dan forró. Heerlijke sound ..
Ary Lobo was one of the main interpreters of forró, music
from the North East region in Brazil. I have this version of
Súplica Cearense from 1971. It concerns the mono version.
In 1973 it was released in stereo. It is a little strange he used
this title again because in 1966 the original Súplica Cearense
was issued. A completely different album, only two songs
appear on both. I have also posted this (by myself down-
loaded) 1966 version for you to compare the two. Some
of his songs, like the title-one, are more samba than
forró. Formidable sound ..

We hadden tot nu toe slechts één plaat met Pedro Garcia
en zijn Cañaguateros. Zijn vallenato verdient meer. Vandaag
dus nog maar eens eentje. Al is er over Pedro niet veel te
vinden, hij was in zijn hoogtij dagen zeker geen kleine jongen
in z’n metier. In zijn discografie zien we onder andere een
plaat saman met de grote Anibal Velasquez. Hij was ook goed
bevriend met Alfredo Gutierrez. Zijn ‘Vendaval’ werd gebruikt
als thema van een soap serie en werd daardoor zeer bekend.
Van deze plaat weten we geen jaar en hij komt ook niet voor
op Discogs. Luister naar Los Cañaguateros ..

his Cañaguateros. His vallenato deserves more however.
Today a second post. Although we can’t seem to find a whole
lot about him, he sure wasn’t a small player in his days. In his
discography we find a record with the great Anibal Velasquez
among others. He was a close friend of Alfredo Gutierrez. His
song Vendaval was used as theme for some soap and got quite
famous. From this lp we don’t know a year and it is not in

I first discovered Carlos Roman through his hit song ‘Very
Very Well’, must have been around 2000. It was on ‘Lo Mejor
de 14 Cañonazos Bailables Vol. 1’. Over the years a few other
songs popped up along the way. When I was visiting some
of my friends in record collecting yesterday, I found this here
album with Carlos and his Conjunto. Super nice and rare lp
I couldn’t resist buying and share with you. Carlos Roman
mixed traditional styles such as cumbia, charanga and
merengue with twist and rock. Incredibly happy party
music from Colombia’s 60’s. No exact year is known.
I have added a few other songs to complete the fun ..
Ik ontdekte het werk van Carlos Roman door de hit ‘Very
Very Well’, zal ergens rond 2000 zijn geweest. Het staat
op ‘Lo Mejor de 14 Cañonazos Vol. 1’. Door de jaren doken
er nog enkele liedjes van hem op. Toen ik gisteren een paar
platenvrienden bezocht vond ik dit album met Carlos en zijn
Conjunto. Geweldig fijne en zeldzame vondst die ik direct
met jullie wil delen. Carlos Roman mixte traditionele stijlen
zoals cumbia, charanga en merengue met twist en rock.
Ongelooflijk blije sound uit Colombia’s 60’s. Geen exact
jaar is duidelijk. Ik heb enkele nummers toegevoegd
om het geheel te completeren ..
