I know Ghanaian music is very much appreciated by many,
it is difficult however to keep posting quality recordings. In
general it is a troublesome job to find albums that play well.
I have found quite some records over the years that fail to
satisfie afterwards. In lots of cases the centerhole is not in the
middle so the music gets false, I’m sure you know the problem.
Other lp’s are scratched more than expected or it has hidden
pops and such one could not suspect on first sight. One way or
the other, today we’ve got an album that plays fairly well.
after a couple of rejects this morning Atakora Manu’s lp
Mene Awurade Benante stood the test and got through
to you. It is the fifth album by his hand that’s been
posted here, find the other four using our search
bar on the left. The tracks on this record don’t
have any blancs in between so it’s only
divided in a-side and b-side, enjoy
listening nevertheless..tracks;
01 – Mene awurade benante
– Menua pa
– Owuo yi se me
02 – Wani behu caanan

Two times a year we have the biggest record fair in Utrecht,
just some 25 kilometers from my town. The one in april is
mostly not as good as the one in november but this year it
was different. I got quite lucky in finding some treasures.
Take this album on Pathé Marconi/EMI, it is a collector of
Congolese songs from the seventies if not mistaking. It
contains some beautiful tracks. The second song by
Anne-Marie Nzie is somehow poppy and different
from the other 8. Track #5 concerns a song by
Orchestre Orphee Jazz which appears here
for the first time. This label stands out
for quality recordings and today’s
lp confirms that point of view.
I saw it is still missing at
Bolingo’s discography,
what to do ?
Get it &
spread
it..tracks;
01 – Orchestre Negro-Band – Journal dipanda
02 – Anne-Marie Nzie – Mua ntua mura
03 – Orchestre O.K. Jazz – Omona wapi
04 – Orchestre Bantou – Tango mosusu
05 – Orchestre Orphee-Jazz – Congo oye
06 – Orchestre Bantou – Choisis, ou c’est lui ou c’est moi
07 – Orchestre Cercul Jazz – Bibi
08 – Orchestre Negro-Band – Masseke
09 – Orchestre O.K. Jazz – Si vous passez par làPosted by Moosat 10:07 AMCategories

Yesterday I took a walk through Amsterdam, checking a few second
hand record stores and guess what happened. I stumbled upon this
wonderful lp. we had numbers 1,2,3 and 5 but 4 was still missing.
I’m so very happy with this find, Daniel Owino Misiani and his Luo
Voice Jazz Band belong to my very favourite benga groups. Very
nice to complete the series with this record, get it now and you
will not be sorry. Strong instrumental parts and vocal
harmonies make this album a solid listen..One more thing; it would be very nice if someone
knows why every song is called after a person’s name.
I keep wondering why they do that in benga music..tracks;
01 – Joshuah abuya
02 – G. ogalo
03 – James songora
04 – Chistopher odira
05 – Silus oyoo
06 – Obiero olumbe
07 – Siongo john
08 – Salmon okwaro
09 – Timothy ochanda
10 – Glary opiyoPosted by Moosat 8:44 AMCategories

Desfrute y goze com ese samba bom demais..tracks;

It is always hard to choose what’s next in line, some 500
Colombian albums waiting to get posted. Calixto Ochoa,
who is one of the greatest stars only appeared here with
two albums of which he had to share one with Lisandro
Meza. About time for a little more Calixto that much is
clear. Today’s lp is from 1973 and contains 10 of his
hits from that era. Never any info on the other artists
that participate, shame but we’re getting used to it.
Enjoy listening to the great Calixto Ochoa..tracks;

Good morning groovers, can I ask for your help today ?
We have an album by Orchestra Zib-Hombers of which
I can’t seem to find any decent information. Mabuse,
it’s front man appears to be Congolese but one of our
visitors once suggested they are from a mid African
country like Gabon or Cameroon. The music which
was recorded by Namaco in Nigeria is called Rumba
from Zaïre if you believe suggestions made on Amazon.
The lyrics are sung in French and English. All together
I am a bit confused, Are we dealing with a Congolese
group, they mostly use the term ‘orchestre’ in stead
of ‘orchestra’. Melodies make me believe it is more
highlife than rumba, alhough sleeve says ‘sukus’..
it is most certainly no soukous to my opinion.
their English sounds Nigerian style, but French
is not spoken there if I’m not mistaking, so
who can enlighten us with the right info
and solve this mystery..?tracks;
01 – l’Amour est aveugle
02 – La vie est compliquée
03 – La plainte d’une femme mariée
04 – Wicked brotherPosted by Moosat 7:57 AM - Wednesday July 15, 2015
Always trying to find the next ‘african’ 360.000 series album
I go from fair to fair and from one recordstore to an other. The
moment one finds another number in the series becomes more
scarse all the time. So when it finally happens again a shiver goes
down my spine, such a thrilling experience. At the last big fair we
got lucky and found this one. Number 360.042 contains songs
in various styles. Track #3 by Tala André Marie and track #5 by
manu Dibango are the ones I less favour, together with #8.
The other five songs however please me very much. Skip
the weepies to go short and enjoy the rest of the album.tracks;
01 – Orchestre Elegance Jazz – Louise keba na ngai
02 – Orchestre les Bakuba – Likabu mabe
03 – Tala André Marie – Sikati
04 – Orchestre O.K. Jazz Infidelité mado
05 – Manu Dibango – O boso
06 – Orchestre Succes Bantou – Zololo
07 – Orchestre Co-Bantou – Naleli zizi
08 – Orchestre Ryco Jazz – Liwa ya mamaPosted by Moosat 8:43 AM - Monday July 13, 2015
Okay okay, more Colombian music, I know..I just couldn’t wait
digitising this one. From 1974 and on the ‘Carnaval’ label, this
is a straight killer. It may sound a little aged, true, but these 10
songs are absolutely marvelous. Five singers with astonishing
voices who bring their vallenatos with so much fire and energy,
it will stir up your summer party guaranteed. It does mine I tell
ya…and my new idol, ..Heliodoro Martinez, absolutely.
Do not wait and get it straight away..tracks;

In 1986 Globestyle released the album ‘Fiesta Vallenata’, part of
the series ‘Accordions that shook the world’. it contains a few
songs that captured me from the very start. Lo mas sabroso
by Jimmy Pedrozo & Franklin Ariza struck me like lightning.
I had never heard such music before and it was more or less
the beginning of my search for more. The lp is available here.Other songs that hit me instantly were the other two Jimmy
pedrozo songs and ‘India Matea’ by Miguel Duran. I’m still on
the look out to find the album containing that song. Yesterday
my buddy Sanjay payed me a visit and a big surprise came
along with him. After 30 years finally I found volume 2 of Jimmy
Pedrozo & Franklin Ariza. In fact, Sanjay is the man that helped
me searching and he found it in Bogota. What a special moment
when listening to it first time. The song ‘Lo mas sabroso’ must be
on volume 1 so the search continues but for now we are so lucky
to be able to listen to “Paso la vida pensando” by Jimmy Pedrozo
con Franklin Ariza y su Conjunto, hope U like..tracks;
01 – Paso la vida pensando
02 – La visuaca

04 – La huella de tu amor
05 – El loro
06 – Sirvientas modernas
07 – Por sapo
