bij. De Oteghe Broertjes Unie Band maken er een obscuur feestje
van met deze Abuokhae Special. Laat het rustig op je inwerken,
kraakje hier, boem boem daar, wat van verre komt smaakt altijd
goed zeggen ze. Pak hem, luister en geef weer door..

from I don’t know what year. Here and there a smell pop is thrown

Turkse produkten kennen we in heel wat soorten en categorieën.
Van mierzoete baclava en Turks fruit tot spicey köfta en pirzola.
De verboden produkten zoals die in Midnight Express, levens-
genieters kunnen er geen genoeg van krijgen. Wat we een stuk
minder vaak zien, of liever horen, is Turkse muziek. Hier op de
Global Groove hadden we er tot dusver niets van, hoog tijd dus
voor iets moois. Vaak is de Bellydance die we tegenkomen op
rommelmarkten en platenbeurzen nèt even te kitcherig maar
deze plaat brengt buikdansmuziek met de favoriete muzikanten
van danseres Özel Türkbaş, een diva die Turkije stevig op de
wereldkaart plaatste. Deze is uit 1972, lekker smeuïg spul.

Speaking of Turkish products, we know quite some delicacy’s.
From super sweet baclava and Turkish fruit to spicey köfta and
pirzola. Forbidden products like the ones in Midnight Express,
pleasure lovers can’t get enough of it. Stuff we see, or rather
hear a lot less, is Turkish music. Here at the Global Groove we
never had any so far, high time for something nice. Often the
bellydance we find on second hand markets and music fairs
is way too cheesy and cheep. This album however brings us
bellydance music with the favorite musicians according to
famous dancer Özel Türkbaş, a diva that put Turkey firmly
on the world map. This one is from 1972, lovely sound.

Gisteren een dagje Amsterdam, diverse platenzaakjes afgestruind.
Die stad is echt veel te druk hoor, en zeker op zaterdagmiddag. Pijn
in de voetjes van het klunen. Maar het lijden werd beloond, al crate
diggend stuitte ik op twee elpees van Mbaraka Mwinshehe, Ukumbusho
volumes 5 en 6. Wat een mazzel, dankzij Stefan’s Worldservice ken ik
volumes 1,2, 4,7 en 8. Zeer veel dank daarvoor Stefan. Er zijn er een
stuk of 13 geloof ik. En dan vind ik precies 5 en 6, wat een gelukkig
toeval, twee missende volumes. Nu nog een keer
nummer 3 en de hogere nummers.
vol.6 volgt spoedig..
Yesterday I went to Amsterdam to check out some of my favorite
record stores. It is really far too busy in the city folks, and especially
on a saturday afternoon. My feet were hurting after hours of walking.
But the suffering was rewarded, crate digging I stumbled upon two
volumes of Mbaraka Mwinshehe’s Ukumbusho series, 5 and 6. How
very lucky, due to Stefan’s Worldservice blog I already knew volumes
1,2,4,7 and 8. Much obliged Stefan. There must be about 13 volumes
in total I believe. And I find exactly numbers 5 & 6, two missing
volumes, what great coincidence. Now we must get lucky a few
times more and find no.3 and the higher numbers.

Weet jenog ? De vorige plaat die we hadden van Les Fantaisistes
de Carrefour ging over een klein vogeltje. Deze over contemplatie,
zonnebakken, de liefde natuurlijk, een blauwe droom en iets als
volleybal maar dan anders, Valley Ball zal wel niet als sport worden
gezien. Petit Oiseau kwam uit 1968 en deze uit 1969, ook op IBO,
gratis achtergrond geluiden, luister zelf..
Do you remember ? The last album we had by Les Fantaisistes
was about a small bird, this one is about contemplation, sunbathing,
love of course a blue dream and something like volleyball but slightly
different. I guess Valley Ball is not a kind of sport. Petit Oiseau was
from 1968, this one from 1969, also on IBO,

Na de elpee van Bush met medewerking van, nu dan eentje van
Osvaldo Ayala zelf. Deze werd enige tijd geleden voor me mee
gebracht uit Panama door onze blog vriend Gonzalez on Speed.
Nogmaals veel dank Gonzalez en de groetjes uit ons kille landje.
Kil is wel het laatste woord wat in ons opkomt als we nier naar
luisteren. Ik geloof dat deze stijl word gezien als Panamese cumbia
al lijkt het niet echt op de Colombiaanse en bekendere variant.
Warme accordeon klanken en dito vokalen..
After a small apetizer, participation by this artist on the elpee by
Bush, an album by Osvaldo Ayala himself. This one was brought to
me specially from Panama by our blog friend Gonzalez on Speed.
Thanks a bunch one more time Gonzalez and greetings from cold
Holland. Cold is the last word we think of when listening to this
music. I believe it is called Panamenian cumbia although it is quite
different from its better known Colombian cousin. Warm

Bush y su Nuevo Sonido – El Mundo Latino

Plaatjes uit panama zijn zeer lastig te vinden mensen, ik vond deze
op de laatste beurs in Utrecht, hij ging niet vrijwillig met me mee
zal ik maar zeggen. Al vond ik la Chola Caderona mooier van deze
Bush, op deze staan in elk geval twee nummers met de accordeon
en stem van Osvaldo Ayala die voor mij het verschil maken. Nummers
twee en acht. De salsa liefhebbers zijn het ongetwijfeld niet met me
eens maar dat geeft niet hoor, ieder zijn smaak..
It is not an easy thing to find records from Panama folks, I found this
one at the latest recordfair in Utrecht, it didn’t join me voluntarily
so to speak. Though I liked la Chola Caderona better from this Bush,
this album contains at least two songs that make the difference for me.
Tracks two and eight with the acordeon and voice of Osvaldo Ayala.
I’m quite sure salsa lovers do not agree with me but that’s no problem,
every listener his own taste and preference..

Zestien maal wordt op deze schijf de lijdensweg van diverse
Jamaicanen tentoon gespreid. De plaat maakte eind jaren
tachtig deel uit van de Producers serie die door Trojan werd
uitgebracht. Ik heb reeds eerder delen geplaatst waaronder
Joe Gibbs and Friends en Clement Coxsone Dodd. Zoek ze met
gebruik van onze zoekbalk links. Indrukwekkende verzameling
songs allemaal. Mis ook deze beter niet, luister snel..
Sixteen times we hear songs about suffering on this record which
was part of the late eighties Producers Series brought by Trojan.

if you turn on your TV and something passes by about Kenya,
it is mostly nature or culture related. Animals Play the most
important role in general. lions, giraffes, elephants, hyenas,
wildebeests, antilopes and such, at its most we see the Masai
people passing by. Concerning the wonderful music the country
produced we never hear a word. Reason enough to give it some
more attention. No huge stories here but mainly the music
itself. Let your ears tell you the story, for example Daniel Owino
Misiani’s and his DO-7 Shirati Jazz Band’s. The tracks are all
melted together and I didn’t have the courage to separate them.
You’ll have to listen to them as two long tracks,
side 1 and side 2.
Als je de TV aanzet en er is iets over Kenya is het meestal
een natuur of cultuur aangelegenheid die langskomt. Dieren
spelen daarin over het algemeen de hoofdrol. Leeuwen,
giraffen, olifanten, hyena’s, Gnoe’s, Antilopen en dergelijke,
hooguit zien we eens iets over de Masai passeren. Over de
prachtige muziek die het land heeft voortgebracht horen we
maar bitter weinig. Reden te meer om hier wat aandacht aan
te besteden. Geen diepgravende beschouwingen maar de
muziek zelf. Laat je oren je het verhaal vertellen. Bijvoorbeeld
dat van Daniel Owino Misiani en de DO-7 Shirati Jazz Band.
De nummers zitten zo strak op elkaar gemonteerd dat ik het
niet aandurfte ze te scheiden. Je zult de plaat in twee lange
aaneengesloten delen moeten beluisteren. Kant 1 en kant 2.
