Good morning, best wishes for the new year to everyone.
New year, new beginning and hopefully things are going to
get better for the world. Depending of where you live, some
of you may have watched Jools Holland’s annual New Year’s
Hootenanny on BBC 2. I watch it every year with a lot of
pleasure. He had a range of artists, we saw Gregory Porter,
Lulu, Rag’n’Bone Man, Ed Sheeran and others making the
musical party a joy to watch once again. I enjoyed one
particular performance a lot. We saw singer and guitarist
Yola. She’ll be playing the roll of Sister Rosetta Tharpe in
Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Elvis’ coming out next year.
Rosetta Tharpe was a gospel singer from a very young age,
she grew up in Mississippi singing in churches with her mother.
Rosetta developed her gospel into rock ‘n roll. Artists like Little
Richard, Chuck Berry and also Elvis Presley found their inspiration
listening to her sound. Chuck Berry was so impressed by the way
she played her guitar, he based his style on it. Watching the Story
of Rosetta Tharpe on YouTube (four parts) inspired me to make this
compilation. Some songs are with Lucky Millinder.

Een nieuw jaar, een nieuw begin en hopelijk wereldwijd een betere
tijd. Afhankelijk van waar je woont heb je wellicht gekeken naar
Jools Holland’s annual New Year’s Hootenanny on BBC 2. Ik kijk er
elk jaar met veel plezier naar. Hij had weer een brede selectie aan
artiesten. We zagen Gregory Porter, Lulu, Rag’n’Bone Man, Ed Sheeran
en anderen er weer een mooi muzikaal feestje van maken. Ik was in het
bijzonder gecharmeerd van het optreden van zangeres en gitariste Yola.
Zij gaat de rol van Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Elvis’
spelen die volgend jaar uitkomt.
Rosetta Tharpe was vanaf zeer jonge leeftijd al gospel zangeres, ze
groeide op in Mississippi en zong met haar moeder in kerken. Rosetta
ontwikkelde haar gospel tot regelrechte rock ‘n roll. Ze inspireerde
artiesten als Little Richard, Chuck Berry maar ook Elvis Presley met
haar speciale geluid. Chuck Berry was zo onder de indruk van haar
manier van gitaar spelen dat hij zijn stijl erop baseerde. Toen ik gisteren
naar the Story of Rosetta Tharpe keek op YouTube (vier delen) besloot
ik deze compilatie te maken. Enkel van de songs zijn met Lucky
Millinder, kijk en luister met plezier naar Sister Rosetta Tharpe ..

“Eba Aka Jerome is a famous veteran artist in his home country.
He is from a village at Maferé, in d’Aboisso region, Côte d’Ivoire.
Discogs has listed 12 LP’s and about 5 EP’s by him. According to
Muzikifan, the hitsong ‘Trahison’ sold a million copies in West
Africa in 1978 and he made it to a Mango Records compilation
called Sound d’Afrique in 1981.” (comment by OK from june 2019)
This one was still waiting on the shelf, it has no year of release.
Very enjoyable record for the last day of the year. Have a smooth

Het bovenstaande commentaar kwam op onze eerste post met
Eba Aka Jerome in juni 2018. Deze plaat stond al een tijdje op de
plank te wachten op vandaag. lekker muziekje voor de laatste dag
van dit jaar. Iedereen een fijne oud en nieuw gewenst,
gelukkig 2022 allemaal !

It was 1985 when Michelino Mavatiku Visi recorded this album.
Although I tend to prefer guitars over keys and get allergic if I
find titles that contain the word ‘amen’, I think this is a decent
piece of soukous. I already enjoyed the record he did with
Franco in 1984. Today Michelino is back with this solo
project. Along the way I’m happy to hear a whole lot
more guitar. Powerful vocals by the way. Solid
listening to my humble opinion ..
Deze plaat met Michelino Mavatiku Visi werd opgenomen in 1985.
Alhoewel ik gitaren duidelijk prefereer boven toetsen en allergisch
word als ik het woord ‘amen’ in een titel zie, denk ik dat dit een
degelijk stuk soukous is. Ik vond het album met Franco uit 1984
ook al zo sterk. Vandaag is Michelino terug hier met dit
solo project. In de loop van de elpee horen we gelukkig
steeds meer gitaren. Bovendien met krachtige vokalen.

Felt like playing us some vallenato today. I found this collector
which displays artists we’ve seen earlier and some that appear
here first time. Side one of the album contains six songs with
Miguel Jiménez y su Conjunto. Side two is filled with four
artists. Alberto Montiel is a singer that always makes me
happy with his funny way of pronouncing. One way or
the other, a record quite untraceable and obscure.
Colombian gold all the way ..
P.S. My amplifier quit on me last week, I now have a
temporary replacer and hope the sound is okay. If you
think it is of a lesser quality than normal, I am sorry ..
Ik had vandaag zin in wat vallenato en vond deze verzamel-
plaat in de collectie. Hij bevat werk van artiesten die we eerder
hadden en twee die hier voor het eerst verschijnen. Kant één is
volledig gewijd aan Miguel Jimenez y su Conjunto terwijl kant
twee door vier artiesten gevuld wordt. Alberto Montiel is een
idool, hij spreekt z’n Spaans zo lollig uit. Hou ik van. Hoe dan
ook, dit is een zeldzaam album, goud uit Colombia ..
P.S. M’n versterker liet me in de steek afgelopen week, ik heb
deze opgenomen met een tijdelijke plaatsvervanger. Als de
geluidskwaliteit minder dan normaal is spijt me dat ..

A couple of days ago I posted Youlou Mabiala with some
messed up files. I received messages that made me remove
it. Some of you downloaded it, but today dear visitors we’ve
got the correct files of that album. It was donated to us by our
dear blog friend Nick Beddow. Thank you so very much Nick.
To all who already had it I say, throw away that file and replace
it with this one. This time I’m sure it is okay. Now we can really
add it to the list of his records ..

die niet compleet was en met foute hoes. Ik kreeg diverse com-
mentaren die me deden besluiten hem weer te verwijderen.
Enkele van jullie zullen hem toen al hebben gedownload. Tegen
jullie zeg ik nu, gooi die file weg en vervang hem voor deze. Ik heb
hem ontavangen van onze dierbare vriend Nick Beddow, enorm

post die de plek op onze GG niet verdiende. Ik had de files
van een vriend gekregen en had beter m’n huiswerk moeten
doen alvorens te posten. Het betrof een Youlou Mabiala die
niet klopte en ik heb daarom besloten hem weer te lozen.
Vandaag daarom een album die je harddisk ruimte wel
verdient. Dit is de Sound of Kinshasa op John Storm
Roberts’ Original Music serie. 13 songs waaronder

Osvaldo Nunes was raised in charities and never met his parents.
Used to live in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, worked as a whaler,
as shoeshine boy and street vendor and as street artist. He lived
a poor life until he started to visit samba schools and carnival
blocks. He then began his artistic career. His life ended tragically,
found a mysterious death, killed in his Rio apartment ..
Osvaldo Nunes groeide op in liefdadigheidsinstellingen en heeft
zijn ouders nooit gekend. Leefde lang op straat in Rio de Janeiro
en werkte als walvisvaarder, schoenpoetser en straatverkoper,
maar ook als straat artiest. Hij had een arm bestaan totdat hij
de sambascholen en carnaval ‘blocks’ begon te bezoeken en
zijn muzikale carrière van start ging. Zijn leven eindigde tragisch,
op mysterieuze wijze vermoord in z’n appartement in Rio ..

I think we already had some 20 of their albums. The latest post
was about 3,5 years ago in may 2018. Happily today we find another
of their records. It is from 1985 and on Afro-Rythmes from Paris.
Always thrilled to find more work by the grand Pépé Kallé, Dilu
Dilumona, Papy Tex and their group Empire Bakuba.
We had a couple of records on Syllart in the past as well.
I was sadly summoned to remove them at some point ..
Ik denk dat we al zo’n 20 platen van ze hebben gezien. De laatste
was alweer meer dan 3,5 jaar geleden, in mei 2018. Gelukkig dat we
vandaag weer eens een album met Empire Bakuba vinden. Hij komt uit
1985 en is op Afro Rythmes uit Parijs. Altijd lekker luisteren
naar de grote Pépé Kallé, Dilu Dilumona, Papy Tex en hun band.
We hadden er ook enkele op Syllart, helaas werd ik
gesommeerd deze te verwijderen op een zeker moment ..

Meet Lincoln Thompson.
“He began his recording career as a harmony singer along with
Cedric Myton of The Congos in 1967, in a band called The Tartans,
who then split up in 1969. In 1971 he was taken on by Coxsone Dodd
and recorded three songs with him at Studio One called “Daughters of
Zion”, “True Experience” and “Live Up to Your..” (read more ..) This is their
second album from 1979, very friendly reggae with this feel
good band. On Ballistic Records ..

Hit Parade Africain vol. 4 – Various Artists
Pathé Marconi / EMI 1975
In November 2011 we had volume 1, it came as Holiday
in Afrika, but was the same album. Then, in January 2014
we had volume 3. Today we find vol. 4, volume 2 is not
in my posession, but I did find it in my digital collection.
There is something strange, this series of four albums on
Pathé Marconi contains mostly Congolese songs, however,
volumes 2,3 and 4 also contain songs from other countries
that do not exactly fit in the series. Vol’s 2 and 4 have songs
by Fela Ransome Kuti, afrobeat which doesn’t really combine.
Volume 3 has a song by Moji & the Tropicals which also fall
out of tone in the series.
Volume 4 is my own vinyl rip and in Mp3 format. I must be
honest and tell you that I have found vol. 2 somewhere else,
I probably downloaded it myself, but I can’t seem to find out
where I did. I’m taking the liberty of re-posting it today, just
to complete the series. If it was you who first posted it and
want me to remove it, let me know. Volume 2 comes in flac
format and the Fela Ransome Kuti track is missing. The one
who first posted it clearly also didn’t like the combination.
Vol. 2 also contains a couple of other songs that don’t fit
too good, ‘G.G. Vicky – Agbé’, ‘Jam Kishy – Jean-Jean’,
‘Laba Sosseh – Seyni’ and ‘Sunny Adé – Ibe ise ba ri’..

2014 hadden we volume 3. Vandaag hebben we volume 4. Vol. 2
heb ik niet op vinyl, maar vond ik wel in m’n digitale collectie. Wat
apart is, deze serie van vier platen op Pathé Marconi bevat voor-
namelijk Congolese songs, hoewel, vol’s 2,3 en 4 hebben ook wat
nummers die niet zo goed combineren uit andere landen. Vol’s 2
en 4 bevatten elk een track van Fela Ransome Kuti, afrobeat die
slecht op de rest aansluit. Vol. 3 heeft een track met Moji & the
Tropicals die ook uit de toon valt.
Volume 4 komt uit mijn eigen vinyl collectie en is in Mp3 formaat.
Ik vertel je eerlijk dat ik vol. 2 zelf ergens moet hebben gedownload,
ik weet echter niet meer waar. Ik heb de vrijheid genomen hem
vandaag te re-posten, ter completering van de serie. Als jij de origi-
nele uploader was en wilt dat ik hem verwijder, laat me dit dan even
weten. Deze vol. 2 komt in flac formaat en de Fela Kuti song is absent.
Degene die hem ooit postte vond hem kennelijk ook niet combineren.
Vol. 2 bevat nog enkele songs die minder passend zijn, ‘G.G. Vicky –
