Born as Stephen Oladipupo Olaore Owomoyela, we know
him as Dr. Orlando Owoh. He was well known for his Highlife,
however on this album from 1981 the record’s label claims
we hear hi-life juju. To my opinion a little more highlife than
juju, but it does shine through for the trained listener .

wij kennen hem echter als Dr. Orlando Owoh. Hij was bekend
om zijn highlife. Op het label van dit album echter wordt de
muziek hi-life juju genoemd. Naar mijn bescheiden mening
iets meer highlife dan juju, maar je hoort het er wel
doorheen als geöefend luisteraar.

of the genre, I am one of them. Sitting at home with covid this

more occupied with work, but will keep posting as much as

Juju album with the Emperor Pick Peters and his Seidor
International Band. It is from 1984 and sounds quite
marvelous. A jazz drummer named Candido was
brought in here, irresistible rhythms are the

Ik ben wat drukker met werk , maar zal zoveel als mogelijk

Prince Buster wrote some ska killers that will never fade.
One of his dance floor killers is ‘Dance Cleopatra’. This album
from 1972 contains thirteen nice songs, but its opening track
remains the best. Madness is the song that gave the English
group their name. This is not an official career album, it is a
Dutch compilation on Blue Elephant Records. Some great
songs here. If you don’t have this record,
don’t hesitate to get it. Enjoy listening ..

It must have been around 1978 when I first saw Han Bennink perform.
It was in ‘de Tagrijn’, a youth center and pop podium in Hilversum. I was
blown away by the way he played, using all kinds of objects and went
around the hall beating on radiators, tables, chairs and about everything
he could beat on to create an original sound. Years later when I had my
own coffee shop, Han came along as a frequent customer, living quite
nearby. We became like friends and Han performed many times in the
shop. I also owned a bar in those days where Han used to come drumming
on the 31st of December. We called it ‘Old Years Fireworks with Han Bennink’.
Just Han and his drum kit. I have added some pictures from those days, On
one occasion we had us a little smoke which produced that funny pic with
Han and a little cloud in front of him. He gave me this record from 1982
one day. An outstanding example of his wonderful work ..
Het moet ergens in 1978 zijn geweest dat ik Han Bennink voor het eerst
zag optreden. Het was in ‘de Tagrijn’, een jeugd centrum en pop podium
in Hilversum. Het was een ongelooflijke ervaring, Han sloeg op van alles,
radiators, tafels, stoelen en wat hij maar kon verzinnen en ging erbij de
zaal rond om vervolgens weer achter zijn drumstel te belanden. Jaren
later toen ik mijn eigen coffee shop had, kwam Han regelmatig langs en
werd een vaste bezoeker, hij woonde dichtbij. We werden als vrienden
en Han heeft in die tijd vaak bij ons in de shop opgetreden. Ik had ook
een café waar Han elk jaar op 31 december het Oude Jaars Vuurwerk
met zijn drums verzorgde. Ik heb wat foto’s uit die tijd bijgevoegd. Op
een dag rookte we wat, het bracht een leuk plaatje voort. Han Bennink
gaf me deze plaat op een mooie dag, een pracht album ..

His salsa brava is delightful and appears on Venezuela’s Top

Good morning, today we find us yet another album with
Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited. His chimurenga
has distinctive style and is to be recognized from thousands.
I have been a fan since the very first time I laid my ears on his
music. The record we have today is from 1993, maybe not his
best, but absolutely worth a couple of spins. We had eleven
other elpees with him, ten earlier and one later than this one.

een zeer onderscheidend geluid en is altijd onmiddelijk her-
kenbaar. Vanaf de eerste keer dat ik naar zijn muziek luisterde
ben ik een fan. De plaat die we hier hebben is uit 1993, misschien
niet z’n allerbeste, maar zeker waard om eens een paar keer te
draaien. We hadden al elf van zijn andere elpees, tien oudere

Hi, goeiemorgen, vandaag gaan we terug in de wintertijd. Wintertijd
is de originele tijd. Elk jaar krijgen we 7 maanden zomertijd, van het
laatste weekend in oktober tot het laatste weekend in maart echter
gaat de klok weer een uurtje achteruit naar ‘real time’. Een uurtje
extra dus om deze post te maken, eens zien ..
Dit is een album met de zoon van de oude Pacho Rada, Pachito Rada
