With various artists this hommage, to two of the
greatest sambistas, was compiled in 1970. Nelson
Cavaquinho and Cartola are being honoured on the
nice Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira, a 10″
record like we already had a few in the past.

The biggest chalenge in crate digging lies in finding records
from countries like Ethiopia, Angola and Panama to call a few.
From Panama for instance I only managed to find some sixteen
albums and a couple of singles. Find most of them here. One of
the most interesting artists from Panama is salsa great Francisco
“Bush” Buckley. We find him with ‘su Nuevo Sonido’ or, like on this
elpee we’ve got today, with ‘sus magnificos’. It concerns a rare
record from 1972. On the internet it’s being sold for huge

Als crate digger ligt een van de grootste uitdagingen in het
vinden van platen uit landen als Ethiopië, Angola en Panama
om er enkele te noemen. Uit Panama bijvoorbeeld heb ik in
al de jaren verzamelen slechts zo’n zestien elpees kunnen
vinden en nog enkele singletjes. Vind de meeste hier. Een
van de meest interessante artiesten uit Panama is salsa
grootheid Francisco “Bush” Buckley. We vinden hem met
‘su Nuevo Sonido’ of, zoals op de plaat van vandaag, met
‘sus Magnificos’. Het betreft een zeldzaam album uit 1972.

We used to have a few more albums with Four Stars, Quatre Étoiles
than we have today. Some of their records appeared on Syllart Records
however and they forced me to remove every one of their releases.
A band like this one deserves to find a place here at the Global Groove
and fortunately we have some left which did not appear on Syllart.
The album we find here today is a ‘Four Star Production’, it opens with
a live recording of five songs and then continues with 3 studio recorded
ones. Get them and spread them like usual ..
We hadden er ooit meer dan nu het geval is. Diverse van de platen van
Four Stars of Quatre Étoiles werden echter uitgebracht op het Syllart
label en deze sommeerde me al hun releases te verwijderen enkele
jaren geleden. Een groep als deze verdient het een plek te vinden hier
op de Global Groove en gelukkig zijn er nog een paar over. Deze hier
verscheen op ‘Four Stars Production’, hij begint met vijf live opgenomen
nummers en vervolgt met drie studio takes.

Osaije Dance Band of Iuleha ? They were led by Festus Natoso
Edukpe. Today an album under ‘Natoso & his Owan Brothers
Dance Band of Nigeria’, it is from 1986. Another Afenmai,
Etsakor record.We’ll have to except some background
noise when listening to it. That’s the way it is ..

plaat. We moeten wel wat achtergrond geluiden accepteren
als we ernaar luisteren. Het is niet anders ..

door velen geliefd is. Colombia staat op plek twee als het gaat
over bezoekers aantallen hier op de GG. Een mooi inzicht, mijn
Spaans is niet zo goed maar deze muziek blijft me enorm boeien.
De funky bassen, strakke ritmes, helemaal met het zomerse weer
van dit moment. We hadden reeds eerder een plaat met Tony
Moncada en zijn groep, vandaag nog een. Deze is speciaal voor
blog vriend Daan en zijn vriendin die wegens Covid19 helaas
niet vrij kunnen reizen. Geniet ervan kameraad ..

vallenato is a music style loved by many. Colombia is, if we speak
of numbers of visitors, on second place. A nice insight, my Spanish
is not so good but this music does never fail to fascinate me. The
funky basslines, tight rhythms, especially with hot summer weather
like we’ve got at the moment. We already had one album with Tony
Moncada and his Conjunto, today another. This one is especially for
blog friend Daan and his girlfriend who suffer from travel restrictions
caused by Covid19. Enjoy it buddy ..

An excellent idea Mouhamadou, Linton Kwesi Johnson
scored big time at the end of the seventies. After the great
‘Dread Beat an’ Blood’ under the name Poet and the Roots,
he continued under his own name. This was the follower up
which we played thousands of times in those years. Very
strong lyrics and Linton’s deep voice is still indestructible.
It was about time for me to post the other albums ..
As a bonus I have added his 1980, 12″ single ‘Di Black
Petty Booshwah’ ..
Een zeer goed idee van Mouhamadou om het missende
werk van Linton Kwesi Johnson eens te brengen. Na zijn
geweldige ‘Dread Beat an’ Blood’ als Poet and the Roots
eind jaren zeventig vervolgde hij onder zijn eigen naam
met dit album. We hebben het toentertijd helemaal
stuk gedraaid. Zeer sterke lyrics en de onverwoestbare
diepe stem van Linton staat nog steeds als een huis.
Het was hoog tijd zijn overige platen eens te posten ..
Als bonus heb ik de 1980, 12″ single ‘Di Black Petty
Booshwah’ toegevoegd ..

Het is alweer te lang geleden dat we wat puike samba hadden
hier op de Global Groove. Ik werd wakker met een nummer van
Martinho da Vila in m’n hoofd en wist meteen, ik moet een van
zijn albums posten vandaag. Hier is dus ‘Presente’ uit 1977. We
hadden er al een zwikkie maar er ontbreken er ook nog wel een
paar. Martinho is 82 en is een levende samba legende. Hij heeft
talloos veel platen gemaakt en nummers geschreven. Zijn werk
wordt geliefd door velen zowel binnen als buiten Brazilië ..
It has been too long we had us some nice samba here at the
Global Groove. I woke up today with a song of Martinho da Vila
on my mind and knew instantly, I’ve got to post one of his albums
today. Evidently here we have ‘Presente’ from 1977. We had quite
a bunch of his records but also still miss a few. Martinho is 82 years
of age today and is a living samba legend. He made numerous
records and wrote many great songs cherished by lots of
samba lovers in and out Brazil ..

On special request by Mouhamadou today some more
Exile One. From 1975 we’ve got this album which rocks
like crazy. From the first notes it grabs you and doesn’t
let go. Some of the songs are sung in English, one may
like this more than others, I’m afraid I belong to the
latter. Musically performed to perfection ..
Vandaag nog zo’n plaat met Exile One op verzoek van
Mouhamadou. Uit 1975 hebben we dit album waarop
de groep lekker los gaat. Vanaf de eerste seconde pakt
hij je en laat niet meer los. Sommige nummers zijn in
het Engels, de één vindt dit leuker dan de ander. Ik
ben bang dat ik tot de laatste groep behoor.

Het is alsof de duvel ermee speelt, telkens als er zo’n album
opduikt waar de magie vanaf komt blijkt deze uit 1973 te komen.
Het kan aan mij liggen hoor. Hoe dan ook, deze fijne elpee dook
op uit mijn platenkast en pakte me bij verrassing. Toen ik op Youtube
ook nog eens een optreden van ze vond met Robert Martino was het
verhaal rond. Bijzonder lekkere muziek uit Haïti, luister wederom
met veel plezier naar Les Difficiles de Pétion Ville ..
It must be a conspiracy I tell you, every time we find an album
magic like this it is from 1973. It can be me but this keeps happening.
One way or the other, this fine record came from the shelf and took
me by surprise. When I found a gig from the old guys with Robert
Martino the pieces of the puzzzle fel together. Wonderful music
from Haïti, listen with peasure once more. These are
