Good morning, let’s continue with some sweet Juju music today.
This album is on the top of the list on Discogs, probably not his
first recording though. Dele Abiodun, his first band was named
Sweet Abby and the Top Hitters. I have never seen any albums
under that name. A lot of info is to be found on fellow blog Afric
Original, as you can see below. We had a bunch of the Admiral’s
records and still some left to post, stay tuned, get & spread ..
Hallo, goeiemorgen, laten we verder gaan met wat fijne Juju
vandaag. Deze plaat staat bovenaan op de lijst van Discogs, ik
vermoed echter dat het niet z’n eerste opname was. Dele Abio-
dun’s eerste band heette Sweet Abby and the Top Hitters. Ik
heb echter nooit een elpee onder die naam gezien. Op Afric
Original vind je tamelijk wat info, kijk hieronder. We hadden
al aardig wat posts met de Admiraal en nog enkele platen
die wachten op hun beurt. Blijf erbij, laad neer en deel ..

Hello, have you heard of an event called Sail Amsterdam ?
It takes place every 5 years in our great capital. In 2020 we
should have had the tenth edition, but because of Covid it
was skipped. So this year we celebrated the posponed
10th edition. I was lucky, my wife and I were invited to
sail with a friend on his boat. Little drink and bite, what
a great experience. You can find a lot of footage on Youtube.
What have we got for you today ? An album with old songs
from Bienvenido Granda with Septeto Nacional de Ignacio
Pineyro. The recordings are from 1936 so they sound a little
dusty unfortunately. Still, a nice document of old Cuban music.
No year of release was found, get it and spread it ..
Goeiemorgen, deze week was het dan eindelijk zover, Sail
Amsterdam 2025 was een feit. M’n vrouw en ik hadden het
genoegen mee te mogen varen over het Ei en het Noordzee-
kanaal. Met vrienden mee, hapje en drankje erbij, wat een
geweldige ervaring weer. Het betreft dit jaar de uitgestelde
10 jaar Jubileum Editie, 2020 ging niet door vanwege covid ..
Wat hebben we vandaag qua muziek ? Een album met oude
Cubaanse muziek van Bienvenido Granda met Septeto Nacional
de Ignacio Pineyro. Opnames uit 1936 dus ze klinken wel een
beetje stoffig. Evenzogoed een mooi document van oude
Cubaanse muziek. geen jaar van uitgave is bekend, luister ..

player Johnny Zamot who was born in Puerto Rico and moved
to New York age 10. Musicians from Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Of singer Freddie Concepcion I couldn’t find a lot of info.
One way or the other, the salsa is quite entertaining, listen ..
Goeiemorgen, vandaag hebben we een schijf vinyl met Latijns-
Amerikaanse klanken. Opgenomen in New York, 1982. Johnny
Zamot produceerde het. Zelf uit Puerto Rico, vinden we hier
muzikanten uit zowel Puerto Rico als Cuba. Over zanger Freddie
Concepcion kon ik niet veel informatie vinden. De salsa is ta-
melijk onderhoudend op twee smartlappen na .. luister ..

Hello, it’s been a while since we had us some Etsakor highlife.
Today’s entry may annoy some of you for it opens with a few
pops and it absolutely bears some background noise. The
diehard lovers of this type of music however don’t mind,
after all it’s all about the rarity of this album.
Sunny Omoaregba and His Traditional Band of Iuleha is a
musical group known for their Owan traditional music, a
sub-genre of Nigerian highlife and folk music. Their music
is rooted in the culture of the Iuleha people, who are part of
the Owan ethnic group in Edo State, Nigeria.The band is
known for their distinctive sound, which often features
traditional instruments and a high-life style. Some of their
recorded albums include “Oyana Khaomen” and “Ojemenkhona.”
You can find some of their full albums and tracks on platforms
like YouTube and specialized music marketplaces.
Hoi, het is alweer even geleden dat we muziek hadden in de categorie
Etsakor highlife. De plaat die we vandaag hebben kan audifiele luis-
teraars ergeren, hij opent met wat pops en heeft ook enig achtergrond
geluid. De fanatieke liefhebber echter maakt dit niet uit. Tenslotte
gaat het om de muziek op deze zeldzame geluidsgrager.

Good morning juju lovers, today we find this album with
the Chief Commander ‘In the 60’s vol. II’. We already had
In the 60’s vol. I somewhere in the past. Ebenezer Obey
made a huge pile of records and we still have a bunch
waiting to be posted. For a change the songs are separated
so you can play them as such when deejaying for example.
Old songs released in 1981, a treat for lovers of 60’s juju ..
Goeiemorgen muziekvrienden, in het bijzonder juju fans.
Vandaag vinden we deze elpee uit 1981, maar met nummers
uit de jaren zestig. Het is In the 60’s vol. II, we hadden vol. I al
eens ergens in het verleden. Ebenezer Obey maakte een flinke
stapel platen en we hebben er nog aardig wat die wachten op
hun beurt gepost te worden. De nummers zijn voor de veran-
dering eens door spaties gescheiden, handig om ze apart te
kunnen afspelen als je deejayt bijvoorbeeld. luister ..
As you have noticed I’m not posting in the same pace I used to.
Since I moved house last year a whole lot of renovation work is
to be done. Still waiting is the carpentry of a new dormer, paint-
work, etcetera. At the end I’m out of energy and posting music
has to wait a bit longer. It is still one of my favorite occupations
though, so hang on, stay tuned. We’ll finally get back on track ..
Zoals je hebt gemerkt komen de platen op het moment niet door in
het tempo wat je voorheen gewend was. Sinds ik vorig jaar verhuisd
ben heb ik een hoop renovatie werk te doen. Vind ik leuk hoor, maar
aan het eind van de rit is de energie even op. Moet nog een dakkapel
aftimmeren en dan nog heel veel schilderwerk. Als ik verder ben ga
ik wel weer meer muziek digitaliseren hoor, geduld s.v.p. dank je ..

Good morning, today we’ve got us another album with bassplayer
and orchestral leader Pedro Laza. Pedro stood out for his great
porro and fandango recordings, he made a whole lot. Take a look
at his phonography at Discogs. We had quite some of his work on
earlier occasions. This record from 1968, 57 years old, sounds a little
dusty but hey, what do you expect ? Tropical de Colombia on Discos
Fuentes, classic sleeve with pretty lady and all ..
Hey goeiemorgen, vandaaag weer eens zo’n album uit Colombia
met bassist en orkestleider Pedro Laza. Pedro was fameus om zijn
vertolking van porro’s en fandango’s, hij nam er tallozen op. Kijk
maar eens in zijn discografie op Discogs. We hadden al het een en
ander met hem. Deze plaat uit 1968 heeft wel wat ruis op de lijn,
maar wat verwacht je dan ook na 57 jaar ? Tropical de Colombia
op Discos Fuentes, compleet met de klassieke mooie meid
op de voorkant van de hoes ..

Good morning, today we find a Congolese artist we
haven’t seen here before. The album is from 1984, on
IAD, l’Industrie Africaine du Disque. Names we’ve seen
before are Freddy Kebano and Jeff Louna among others.
The record opens with rumba/soukous and moves to a very
mellow sound, sometimes more pop related, but overall a
solid listen. I’d say, get it and spread it ..
Goeiemorgen mensen, vandaag hebben we een Congolese
artiest die we nog niet eerder zagen. De plaat stamt uit 1984,
op IAD, l’Industrie Africaine du Disque. Namen die we eerder
zagen zijn Freddy Kebano en Jeff Louna onder anderen. Het
album opent met rumba/soukous en vervolgt met een zeer
relaxed geluid, soms meer pop gerelateerd, maar over het
algemeen een solide luister ervaring.

Héctor Juan Pérez Martinez, better known as Héctor Lavoe,
was a Puerto Rican salsa singer. When he was 16 years old
he moved to New York City and sang with several groups.
Later performed with Willie Colón’s band and also with the
Fania All Stars. He was one of the most influential artists in
the field. One day he was called La Voz (the voice) which led
to his stage name Lavoe. We had a bunch of records on which
Héctor performed, check below ..
Héctor Juan Pérez Martinez, beter bekend als Héctor Lavoe,
was een Puerto Ricaanse zanger. Op zijn 16 de jaar vertrok
hij naar New York City en zong daar met diverse bands. Later
werd hij de leadzanger bij Willie Colón en trad ook veel op met
de Fania All Stars. Hij was één van de meest invloedrijke artie-
sten in het genre. Op een dag kreeg hij de bijnaam La Voz ( de
stem) wat leidde tot zijn stage naam Lavoe. We hadden al een
aantal platen waarop Héctor de zangpartijen voor zijn
rekening nam, zier hieronder ..

I remember very well, when this album was released in 1973,
they appeared on Dutch television. I was 15 years old and didn’t
understand sh*t about this type of music. It was the strangest
thing to me. It took me another 10 years before I had a strong
feeling for soul music and started to really appreciate it.
Yesterday, June 9th, Sylvester Stewart, better known as Sly Stone,
passed away age 82. He suffered from COPD. Sly’s music was revo-
lutionary, his sound was ‘fresh’ and different from most other soul
and funk bands. I called my second son after him. RIP Sylvester ..
I weet het nog zo goed, in 1973, toen deze plaat uitkwam, was ik
15 jaar oud. Ik zag Sly op de televisie en dacht, “wat een vreemde
muziek ..”, ik was er nog niet rijp voor. Het duurde nog eens een
jaar of tien voor ik het echt ging waarderen. Soul en funk beleefden
toen een enorme revival, bij mij althans. Gisteren, op 9 Juni, overleed
op 82 jarige leeftijd Sylvester Stewart, beter bekend als Sly Stone. Hij
leed aan COPD. Sly’s muziek was revolutionair, zijn sound was ‘fresh’
en anders dan die van de meeste gevestigde soul en funk bands.
Ik heb mijn tweede zoon naar hem vernoemd. RIP Sylvester ..

Trojan Records came with the Producer Series in 1988, a
great collection of records containing solely highlights in
reggae music. We’ve seen some and we’ve got some yet
unposted. Today it’s this man’s turn, Niney the Observer
and his friends are being honored here. The first four tracks
are built on the same base, several versions on the same
rhythm. We recently had a post to remember Max Romeo
after he had passed, on this album Max is back with three
songs. The songs follow each other with narrow spaces in
between. Best listen in one take, I might have made a small
mistake in skipping once or twice. Get it,
spread it and enjoy listening ..
Trojan Records kwam met the Producers Serie in 1988, een
mooie collectie platen met uitsluitend hoogtepunten in de
reggae. We hadden er een al paar en we hebben er nog die
wachten om gepost te worden. Vandaag valt de beurt aan
deze man. Niney the Observer en enkele vrienden worden
hier geëerd. De eerste vier tracks zijn op dezelfde basis
gemaakt, vier variaties op één thema. We hadden onlangs
een post met de kort geleden overleden Max Romeo, op
deze plaat heeft hij ook drie nummers. De songs volgen
elkaar op zonder ruimte ertussen, luister best in één take,
ik kan 1 of 2 foutjes hebben gemaakt in de skips ..

Good morning groovers, today we find another awesome
record with Alhaji (Chief) Kollington Ayinla. Kollington is a
fuji master. Owo Tun Tun, which we have here is a very
strong album released in 1984. The drums are so powerful,
when you listen to it, put up your volume and reach a kind
of ecstasy like never before. We had some of his work before
and it found dozens of happy listeners.
This one is for fellow blogger Henk Madrotter, who is a huge
lover of Kollington Ayinla’s music .. enjoy folks ..
Goeiemorgen groevers, vandaag hebben we nog zo’n top
album met Alhaji (Chief) Kollington Ayinla. Kollington is een
fuji meester. Owo Tun Tun, de plaat die we hier hebben is
een zeer sterke elpee uit 1984. De drums zijn zo krachtig,
als je ernaar luistert, zet dan het volume flink hoog en raak
in een extase als nimmer tevoren. We hadden al een aantal
van zijn platen en die vonden vele blije luisteraars. Deze is
voor Henk Madrotter die een groot liefhebber is
van Kollington Ayinla’s muziek .. genieten maar ..

Ik ben geen groot fan van Koffi Olomide’s latere platen.
Zijn vroege werk daarentegen is een stuk aantrekkelijker.
Volgens Discogs is dit zijn eerste album uit 1983, opgenomen
onder mentorschap van Joski Kiambukuta in Studio Madeleine
in Brussel. Deze plaat is zeker enkele omwentelingen waard.
Luister en kijk wat jij ervan vindt ..
I must say Koffi Olomide’s later work is not my favourite.
His early works are, to my humble opinion, a lot more interesting.
According to Discogs this is Koffi’s first album from 1983, recorded
under advisory of Joski Kiambukuta in Studio Madeleine in Brussels.
This record is worth at least a couple of spins, listen
and make up your own mind ..
