During the nineties we listened to a whole lot of so called
lounge music, electronic mellow sounding, sometimes avant
gardistic, music. I tend to play that stuff again these days. Nice
memories of a era that moved. This French album was always
one of my favourites. Get it & spread it ..
Tijdens de jaren negentig luisterden we veel naar zogeaamde
lounge. Elektroniese lekker rustige, en soms ook freaky muziek.
Dezer dagen draai ik het soms weer met veel plezier. Herrinne-
ringen ophalend aan een periode die me dierbaar was. Deze
Franse plaat was altijd een van m’n favorieten ..

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I went for a weekend
to Middelburg, a great old city in the south of our little country.
Walking around I stumbled upon a music store, selling instruments,
but also records. I was surprised to find a whole lot of rare pop
vinyl and went through the crates digging for stuff that was missing
in my collection. Came home with quite a pile. This is one of the
purchases I did. Brian Eno with a psychedelic pop album. Discogs
says 1974, but its sleeve states 1973. Maybe something you don’t
expect to find here, give it a spin and see what you think ..
Mijn vrouw en ik waren enkele weken terug een weekend naar
Middelburg in ons waterige Zeeland. Rond wandelend vond ik een
muziekwinkel die niet alleen instrumenten verkoopt, maar ook platen.
Ik was blij verrast te zien dat er een enorme collectie oude vinyl werd
aangeboden en kwam met een aardig stapleltje albums thuis. Dit is
een van de aankopen die ik deed. Brian Eno met een psychedelische
elpee uit 1973. Discogs zegt ’74, maar ik volg de hoes van de plaat.
Misschien niet iets wat je hier verwacht, ik zou zeggen luister zelf ..

Hello, good morning. I’m happy to have another sweet slice
of benga for you today. Although its cover looks totally worn
out the vinyl is in pretty good shape for a 50 year old record.
Only track #1 has one pop, the rest plays fine. We find 4 songs
with the great Shirati Jazz and 4 with the Golden Ugenya Band.
Lovers of Kenyan music, don’t miss this one ..
Hallo, goeiemorgen. Ik ben blij je vandaag te kunnen verrassen
met een portie fijne benga. Hoewel de hoes flink is versleten is
het vinyl in behoorlijk goede staat, zeker voor een 50 jaar oude
plaat. Aleen nummer 1 heeft een kleine tik, de rest speelt mooi.
We vinden 4 nummers met het geweldige Shirati Jazz en 4 met
de Golden Ugenya band. Liefhebbers van Kenyaanse
muziek, mis deze niet ..

Another Shirati Jazz record that must have disappeard along the
way is this one. It happened on more than one occasion when we
were still depending on Blogspot and various webhosters. Nowadays
we run on our own server and never loose any content. If you ever
discover another loss from the GG, please tell us and we can re-post.
Voordat we doorschakelen naar de volgende heerlijke benga post,
even dit. Een andere prachtige Shirati Jaaz plaat die we ooit hadden
is ergens onderweg verdwenen. Dat gebeurde vroeger nog wel eens
toen we afhankelijk waren van Blogspot en diverse webhosters. Nu
we alles op de eigen server draaien kan er niets meer verdwijnen.

Uit Guadeloupe hebben we vandaag deze lekkere dansplaat
met Gerard Nerplat & la Diference. Biguine en Cadencia die
er lekker op los rockt. De ritmes zijn onovertroffen en met
Gerard’s donkere stemgeluid een stevige binnenkomer ..
From Guadeloupe we find this great dance record with
Gerard Nerplat & la Diferencia. Biguine and Cadence that
rocks its way through the album. The rhythms are astonishing
and with Gerard’s strong vocals a firm and decent listen ..

Nicky Hopkins was an English pianist. He was one of the most
wanted studio musicians during the 60′, 70’s and 80’s. He played
with many famous groups and artists. I’ll name; the Rolling Sto-
nes, the Beatles, the Who, the Kinks, Steve Miller, Jefferson
Airplane, Rod Stewart, George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul
McCartney, Ringo Starr, the Hollies, Cat Stevens, Carly Simon,
Harry Nilsson, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Jerry Garcia, Jeff
Beck, Joe Cocker, Art Garfunkel, Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Not much is to be found on Captain Newman and his
Super ‘7’ Band of Ghana. A page on Discogs, a message on
Modern Ghana that he died on January 25, 2008 and that
is about it. Oh and this playlist on Youtube. Listening to this
1985 album however we can add the Captain to our Ghanaian
Highlife collection. The music is quite entertaining and I’m glad
we have him. The elpee was recorded at Rogers All Stars Studio
in Onitsha Nigeria with engineer Remmy Njoku.

Zoekend naar info over Captain Newman en zijn Super ‘7’
Band of Ghana vinden we een pagina op Discogs, een artikel
op Modern Ghana over zijn dood op 25 Januari 2008 en een
playlist op Youtube. Dat is het we zo’n beetje. Luisterend
echter is het duidelijk dat dit een waardevolle toevoeging is
aan onze Ghanese highlife collectie. Blij dat we’m hebben.
Opgenomen bij Rogers All Stars Studios in Onitsha Nigeria.
