suffering from some serious problems. For about
six weeks I was not able to enter due to a probable
hack. Same time my technician was not available to
search for the issue that caused it. I am sorry for
the inconvenience, but I’m sure things will turn out
for the better in the near future. For now, no new

The past few weeks I’ve been busy reorganizing house,
doing paintwork etcetera. It’s been a mess and posting
was no option. I’ll try to make up for the hiatus during
the coming weeks. To start with, this short contribution.
It concerns a 7 inch by Congolese band Ry-Co Jazz. They
were founded in 1958 and left for Martinique in ’66. This
4 track ep is from 1962. Get it, spread it and listen ..
De afgelopen weken ben ik druk geweest met het reor-
ganiseren en schilderen van het huis. Rommelige tijd en
de Global groove moest daar even onder lijden. Ik zal m’n
best doen de komende weken e.e.a. goed te maken. Voor
nu, een korte bijdrage in de vorm van deze 7 inch ep uit
1962. Ry-Co Jazz werd opgericht in Congo in 1958, in ’66
vertrokken ze voor een aaantal jaren naar Martinique.
Luister naar deze vier nummers, en
deel ze zoals gewoonlijk ..

A friend gave me this album last week, it came from an
inheritance and he thought it would fit well in my collection.
Indeed, he couldn’t be more right. It concerns a fine com-
pilation of African songs from the sixties. We find Gnonnas
Pedro from Benin, Mondo and Claude Mingolé from Cameroun
and from Congo Franklin Boukaka. 14 very entertaining songs.
Thank you once more Roeland for this nice gift.

Ik kreeg deze plaat de afgelopen week van een vriend, hij kwam
uit een erfenis en hij dacht dat ie wel in mijn collectie zou passen.
wel, hij kon daar niet meer gelijk mee hebben. Het betreft een
compilatie van Afrikaanse nummers uit de jaren zestig. We vinden
Gnonnas Pedro uit Benin, Mondo en Claude Mingolé uit Kameroen
en Franklin Boukaka uit Congo. 14 zeer degelijke nummers.
Nogmaals dank Roeland voor dit fijne cadeautje.

Ethiopian saxophoon plyer Getatchew Mekuria is one
of the most gifted musicians from his country. He started
playing age 13 in 1949. He died of a leg infection in 2016,
he then was 81 years old.

From 1981 we’ve got this album with Kanda Bongo Man
today. The great Diblo Dibala takes care of the lead guitar
parts on this record. Entertaining soukous, not stirred up
too much, it has a certain mellowness over it. Pleasant
Sunday afternoon listening here ..
Hier hebben we een elpee uit 1981 met Kanda Bongo Man.
De lead gitaar partijen werden verzorgd door Diblo Dibala
op dit album. Onderhoudende soukous, niet te opzwepend
heeft deze plaat een zekere rust over zich. Lekker om op
je zondag middag te beluisteren ..

It was in May 2009 that I visited Paris to do some crate
digging over there. In a small shop called Crocodisc I
first got acquainted with the works of Raphy Leavitt
y su Orquesta La Selecta. It was the album ‘Jibaro Soy’
that I found. Ever since that day I started buying every-
thing I find by them. Today we’ve got the record that
came out before ‘Jibaro Soy’. From 1972 this is ‘Mi
Barrio’, on Borinquen in Puerto Rico ..
In de maand Mei 2009 was ik in Parijs om aldaar eens
wat platenzaken af te struinen. In een kleine winkel met
de naam Crocodisc maakte ik voor hey eerst kennis met
het werk van Raphy Leavitt y sy Orquesta La Selecta. Het
was ‘t album ‘Jibaro Soy’ het welk enorme impact op me
had. Sindsdien koop ik alles wat ik van ze tegenkom.
Vandaag het album ‘Mi Barrio’ dat uitkwam voor ‘Jibaro
Soy’. Deze is uit 1972 en op Borinquen uit Puerto Rico ..

Adam Fenton or Adam F is an English producer and DJ.
He started with drum and bass and later went to do
more hip hop and stuff. This was his debut album ..

en Trip hop platen van de plank. Het weer luisteren van
deze muziek voelt als een reisje terug naar de jaren 90.

Adam Fenton of Adam F is een Engelse producer en DJ.
Hij begon met drum and bass en schakelde later door

Today’s entry is not very suitable for foreign people. It is
a typical Dutch thing. Early 1970’s we had a television
show on the VPRO which was quite weird. It had a certain
content not everybody liked. I am posting this because one
of the players in this program died yesterday, age 95. His name
was IJf Blokker, Barend Servet (right) on TV. In the show we saw
naked people for the first time on Dutch TV, texts were also a bit
absurdistic and rude, half the population hated it and the other
half loved it. The next day by the coffeemachine at work, strangely
everybody saw it, also the haters. I must say nowadays we look
back with a big smile. Texts were also very
funny and entertaining ..
Pollens! Barend Servet, IJf Blokker (rechts) is gisteren overleden
op de respectabele leeftijd van 95 jaar. De ouderen onder ons kennen
hem van de Fred Haché Show die begon in 1972. Ik weet het nog
zo goed, was 14 jaar, en keek ernaar met veel plezier. Bij ons thuis
heerste gelukkig tamelijk vrije opvattingen. Verdomd interessant,
maar gaat u verder. Barend’s meest bekende liedje was natuurlijk
zoals de titel van de cd REEDS zegt, ‘Waar moet dat heen, hoe zal
dat gaan?’ een nummer dat ook vandaag, 54 jaar later, nog zeer
relevant is. Ik word een peu nerveux. De teksten, voor een groot
deel afkomstig uit de pen van Wim T. Schippers waren ondeugend,
een tikkie vulgair en absurdistisch. Ik mag er nog graag zo af en toe
naar luisteren. Alle liefhebbers, veel plezier ermee, als het ware ..

Cuco Valoy is a Dominican singer, songwriter, percussionist
and guitarist, specialized in salsa, merengue, son montuno
and guaracha. We’ve seen several albums with his brother
Martin and Los Ahijados. He is celebrated for his versatility,
socially conscious lyrics and powerful, distinct voice.
In the 70’s and 80’s he formed the group Los Virtuosos,
which later became Cuco Valoy y su Tribu. The record we
have today is from 1977. on Discolor Records. Listen ..
Cuco Valoy is een Dominicaanse zanger, liedjesschrijver,
Percussionist en gitarist, gespecialiseerd in salsa, merengue,
son montuno en guaracha. We zagen al enkele albums langs
komen met zijn broer Martin en Los Ahijados. Hij staat bekend
om zijn veelzijdigheid, sociaal bewogen teksten en zijn krach-
tige, herkenbare stem. In de jaren 70 en 80 vormde hij samen
met zijn broer Martin Los Virtuosos, later bekend als Cuco
Valoy y su Tribu. De plaat die we hier hebben is uit 1977

Ebo Taylor (born 1936) is a Ghanaian guitarist, composer, bandleader,
producer and arranger focusing on highlife and afrobeat music.
he passed away on February 7th 2026.
Ebo Taylor is one of ghanaʼs finest producer/arrangers and has been a
vital figure on the Ghanaian music scene for over six decades. in 1962,
Taylor took his own group, the Black Star Highlife Band, to London, which
led to collaborations with Fela Kuti as well as other african musicians in
Britain at the time. Taylor was heavily influential in the unique sound that
emerged from the country in the 70’s; a combination of traditional
Ghanaian with afro-beat, jazz, and funk rhythms.
He worked with bands including Stargazers Band, Broadway Dance Band,
Black Star Highlife Band (with Teddy Osei and Sol Amarfio who later joined
Osibisa), Apagya Show Band and fellow musicians C.K. Mann, Gyedu-Blay
Ambolley and legendary Pat Thomas.
