Etubom Rex Williams is one of Nigeria’s most popular
highlife artists from his era. He played with guys like
Victor Olaiya , Victor Uwaifo, Eddy Okonta and E.C. Arinze.
Rex started to play the trumpet through the Salvation Army
Band. After seeing E.T. Mensah he decided to go professional.
This elpee from 1975 has some background noise, almost 50
years of needles harmed it somewhat. Still a solid listen ..

After a short break today we’re back with some psychedelic
popmusic from the late 60’s. We saw an album with Daevid
Allen just over a year ago and now we’ve got this one with
Gong, his earlier band. Lately I love to play the music of groups
like Gong, Soft Machine, Daevid Allen, Kevin Ayers, Matching
Mole, Robert Wyatt etc. Dreaming away on wierd sounds and
forgetting the world of todat a little bit. Give it a try folks ..
Na een korte pauze zijn we vandaag terug met wat Psychedelische
popmuziek uit de late jaren 60. We hadden ruim een jaar al eens
een plaat met Daevid Allen en vandaag met zijn eerdere band Gong.
De laqatste tijd draai ik weer veel muziek van bands als Gong, Soft

Hello, good morning, I had some requests for albums of
Dr. Orlando Owoh, yesterday it was for the album ‘Which
is Which’ and in the past a few times for ‘Igba Funfun Lere
Wa’. Both records are not present in my collection, I’m sorry.
I thought it would be nice though to post another of his records
instead. On this one from 1976 we hear Orlando play mostly
highlife, but at a couple of moments the sound turns in the
juju direction. I’ll file this under Juju Highlife. Enjoy ..

Orlando Owoh te plaatsen. Gisteren voor ‘Which is Which’, en

Good day groovers, we had quite some records with the great
Orchestra Baobab from Senegal. This one comes from a cd.
As you can see on the back, Stern’s Records brought two albums
from 1980 and 1981 on this one cd. Released in 1993.
I’m experiencing some problems with my recording equipment,
that’s why we have cd material today, don’t want you to miss

Baobab uit Senegal. Vandaag eentje die van cd komt. Zoals je kunt
lezen op de achterkant een comp van twee oude platen uit 1980 en
1981 op éen cd. Ik heb wat problemen met m’n opname apparatuur
vandaar vandaag cd materiaal. Ik wilde je niet te lang zonder post

It’s halfway December today and as every year I tend to
pull some old stuff from the shelf this time of year. An
underrated artist to my humble opinion is without any
doubt Terry Reid. Terry could have been the lead singer
of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, if he wouldn’t have
turned down the offers. He made a couple of fine records
under his own name though. I have posted his third album
‘River’ in January this year. Still my favourite. Today we bring
his second album ‘The Most of Terry Reid’. Read Terry’s full

Het is half December en zoals elk jaar neig ik ernaar wat oude
platen uit de kast te trekken deze tijd. Een zwaar ondergewaar-
deerde artiest is zonder twijfel Terry Reid naar mijn bescheiden
mening. Terry had de leadzanger kunnen zijn van Led Zeppelin
en ook van Deep Purple als hij de voorstellen hiertoe niet zou
hebben afgelslagen. Hij maakte echter onder zijn eigen naam
ook enkele goede platen. Ik heb begin dit jaar zijn derde plaat
‘River’ al gepost, nog steeds m’n favoriet. Vanddag hebben we

Hello groovers, what’s cooking for you today ?
We have another piece of mandingo from Guinée.
The Super Boiro Band was founded in 1959. On Discogs
the album is listed under Niaissa, the band’s trumpeteer.
It is from 1972 and has some hiss, not strange after 52
playing years. We saw a few of their songs on previous
posts of collectors on the great Editions Syliphone Conakry
label. Today our first entry of a career record of the group.

Goeiemorgen groevers, wat hebben we op het program
vandaag ? een plaat uit het west Afrikaanse Guinée. De
Super Boiro Band die werd opgericht in 1959. Op Discogs
staat ie onder Niaissa, de bands trompettist. Uit 1972 en
met enige ruis hier en daar, niet heel gek na 52 jaar op de
draaitafel. We zagen al enkele van hun nummers op wat
verzamel albums op het machtige Editions Syliphone
Conakry label. Vandaag onze eerste carrière plaat

In 1983 Rough Trade came with this album by Martin
‘Mandingo’ Williams. For all reggae / dub lovers this is
an absolute must have. Not much is to be found on
Martin. The line-up though is quite spectacular here.

‘Afrikan History’ is loaded with weird and special sound
effects, from bleeping synths to explosions and bird
sounds. Surprisingly good dub from beginning to end ..
In 1983 kwam Rough Trade met deze plaat van Martin
‘Mandingo’ Williams. Voor alle reggae / dub liefhebbers
een absolute ‘must have’. Ik kan over Martin Williams
niet veel vinden. Wel durf ik zeggen dat de line-up op
dit album tamelijk spectaculair is. (zie achterkant hoes
in de file) ‘Afrikan History’ barst van de meest freaky
geluidseffecten, van bliepende synthesizers tot explosies
en vogel geluiden. Verrassend goede dub van begin tot eind ..

Luis Eduardo Bermúdez Acosta, better known as Lucho Bermúdez,
was a Colombian composer, musician and performer. he was one
of the most important orchestral leaders, composers in Colombian
music history. Back in the days when Jillem of Holland Tunnel Dive
posted this album I promised to post some of his older
work some day. Well here it finally is, hope you like it, it contains some
background noise, but what do you expect after 61 years. The town you see
is Carmen de Bolívar where he grew up. I have another 16 of his records
on the shelf, feel free to ask any other, I’ll see if I have it.

Het is een mooi verhaal. dat van de carrière van Lucho Bermúdez.
Ik heb in de tijd toen Jillem op Holland Tunnel Dive een album van
hem plaatste (zie link in Engels bericht) beloofd later meer van zijn
oude werk te plaatsen. Vandaag is het dan eindelijk zover.
Vandaag dus twee van zijn platen, mooi spul van 61 jaar geleden.
De plaat heeft wat kraakjes, maar wat verwacht je na 61 jaar.
Stad op de foto is Carmen de Bolívar waar Lucho opgroeide.
Ik heb nog 16 van zijn platen op de plank, verzoek dus gerust ..

In 1980, we were pleasantly surprised by this English group.
The Monochrome Set came with their debut album ‘Strange
Boutique’. Wiki calls it post-punk/new wave. They made this
avant-gardish sympathetic pop music that I really love. A
strong drum and bass rhythm machine combined with
subtle guitar work and friendly vocals, sweeet. If you

In 1980 werden we prettig verrast door deze Engelse band.
The Monochrome Set kwam met hun debuut album ‘Stange
Boutique’. Wiki noemt het post-punk/new wave. Ze maakten
avant gardische en sympathieke popmuziek die ik geweldig
mooi vind. Een sterke drum en bas ritme set gecombineerd
met subtiel gitaar werk en vriendelijke vocalen, heel lekker.
Als je ze niet kent, download de plaat, kijk de video en zoek

of albums named Boum Vacances or Holiday surprise party.
We had a few on earlier occasions and today we’ve got
another one for you. It is a record with various artists,
happy holyday music from the 60’s & 70’s ..
I veronderstel dat veel Fransen een zonnige vakantie door-
brachten in éen van hun overzeese kolonies in de jaren 70.
