Good morning, a Congolese album by an artist I know
nothing about. Solid sound with participants like Freddy,
Master Mwana and Sammy Massamba among others.
The only thing we can do is listen to it, enjoy doing so.
One downside, better skip #4 .. ( a sad weepy )
Goeiemorgen, een Congolees album vandaag met een
artiest waar ik niets van weet. Het klinkt zeer solide met
muzikanten als Freddy, Master Mwana en Sammy Mas-
samba onder anderen. Het enige wat ons te doen staat
is ernaar te luisteren, doe dit weer met plezier.
Één minpuntje, vergeet track #4 .. ( smartlap )

Dear groovers, on ‘Merengue’, a sub-label of Discos
Fuentes we find this old record with both José Maria
Peñaranda and Calixto Ochoa y sus Conjuntos. The
first is well known for his parrandas with naughty
lyrics, but he also did vallenatos and other genres.
On this 1963, according to Discogs his first album,
we find twelve songs in various styles. A rare
slice on the old yellow Fuentes label ..

Fuentes vinden we vandaag deze oude plaat met zowel
José Maria Peñaranda als Calixto Ochoa en hun beider
Conjuntos. De eerste is bekend om zijn parranda’s met
ondeugende teksten, maar hij deed ook vallenato en
andere stijlen. Op dit album uit 1963, volgens Discogs
zijn eerste, vinden we twaalf nummers in verschillende
smaken. Een zeldzame schijf op het oude
gele Fuentes label ..

Good morning, how about some cumbia today ? Discogs
only tells us it is from the US, but I assume Super Combo
is from Colombia. If anyone knows differently, please
enlighten us. Overall we can’t find a lot of information
about this album. No worries though, listening to it
makes up for that completely. Enjoy ..

weet ons slechts te vertellen dat hij uitkwam in de US. Ik
veronderstel echter dat Super Combo een Colombiaanse
groep is. Als iemand anders weet, graag feedback. Er is
weining over de plaat te vinden, jammer maar helaas.

Le Grand Maître Franco Luambo Makiadi passed in 1989.
In 1990 le Grand Père Bozi Boziana and his group Anti-Choc
released this hommage. Quite different from Franco’s sound,
but an absolute delightful album. I’m so sorry I don’t understand
Lingala, I’d love to know the words in ‘Hommage à Franco’.
Maybe someone can translate for us .. enjoy listening ..
De grote meester Franco Luambo Makiadi stierf in 1989.
In 1990 lanceerde le Grand Père Bozi Boziana en zijn groep
Anti-Choc dit eerbetoon aan Franco. Nogal een ander geluid
dan dat van Franco, maar een absolute aanrader. Het is jammer
dat ik geen lingala versta, had graag de tekst in ‘Hommage à Franco’
begrepen. Misschien kan iemand het voor ons vertalen ..

Greensleeves 1986
In het verleden heb ik meerdere reggae verzamelaars
met gouwe ouwe hits gecompileerd onder de naam
Reggae Monster originals. ‘Crazy girl’ van Halfpint
stond daar al op. Het nummer kwam van deze plaat
met aan de ene kant Michael Palmer en Halfpint op
de andere. Hij is uit 1986 en alhoewel Greensleeves
er minder blij mee is kan ik niet weerstaan deze van-
daag te brengen. Luister zelf ..
In the past I have made this series of reggae compilations
containing the hits I used to play a lot. It was called ‘Reggae
Monster originals‘. ‘Crazy girl’ by Halfpint was already on
one of them. This is the record I took it from. It is an album
with on one side Michael Palmer and on the other side
Halfpint. From 1986 and although Greensleeves doesn’t
like it I couldn’t resist posting the elpee today. Listen ..

On the three albums we already saw with ‘Canadoes’,
they were called ‘Canadoes Super Stars of Ghana’, or
Canadoes, Super Stars Band of Ghana’. They were from
1980 and 1981. On this one from 1983 they are called
‘Canadoes II’, at first I was not sure if it concerns the
same group, but after checking Discogs, it seems it
does. One way or the other, superb Ghanaian highlife ..
Op de drie platen die we al zagen heetten ze ‘Canadoes

Ghana’. die waren uit 1980 en 1981. Op deze uit 1983
staan ze erop als ‘Canadoes II’, eerst twijfelde ik of het
dezelfde band betreft, maar na te checken op Discogs
was er geen twijfel. Hoe dan ook, Geweldig fijne
Ghanese highlife ..

From Brazzaville we have this album with Aurlus Mabélé.
He was the founder of Groupe Loketo and people called
him the ‘King of Soukous’. This is a record from 1991, Dally
Kimoko does the sharp soukous guitar parts.
If you have a summer dance party, don’t skip some of
these tracks, absolute dance floor killers ..
Uit Brazzaville vinden we vandaag deze plaat met Aurlus
Mabélé. Hij was de man die groupe Loketo oprichtte en
men noemde hem de ‘King of Soukous’. Dit album is uit
1991, Dally Kimoko neemt de scherpe soukous gitaar
voor z’n rekening. Als je een zomer dans
feestje hebt, vegeet dan niet enkele van deze nummers
te draaien, absolute dansvloer ‘killers’ ..

strictly cumbia. This record from 1970 stood waiting to get
posted for a long time. High time to post some more stuff
from Colombia anyway. So for today this elpee with
nice old cumbia, enjoy listening ..
Het is alweer behoorlijk lang geleden dat we een elpee
hadden met strict cumbia. Deze plaat uit 1970 stond al
een tijdje te wachten om gepost te worden. Het is uber-
haupt wel weer eens tijd voor meer Colombiaanse muziek.

Through this album Alhaja Batuli Alake was contributing
to realise less carnage at Nigerian roads. She was one of
the great waka artists in the field. Online we find her as
Batile or Batili instead of Batuli like on this record. Read
her Wiki page and learn more about this Yoruba celebrity.
The elpee ‘Road Safety’ is a 1991 release. I accidentally
switched sides 1 and 2, ‘Road Safety’ as
a title now comes first ..
Alhaja Batuli Alake trachtte door deze plaat een bijdrage
te leveren aan de veiligheid op Nigeriaanse wegen en zo
minder dodelijke ongelukken voor mens en dier te be-
werkstelligen. Online vinden we haar als Batile of Batili.
Zij was een van de eerste vrouwen die de Waka Fuji op
elpee zette. Lees haar Wiki pagina en leer meer over
deze Yoruba coryfee. Ik heb van deze 1991 uitgave
per ongeluk de a en b zijde omgedraaid, zo komt
‘Road Safety’ als nummer het eerst ..
