- Monday September 21, 20096 comments on Global Sampler vol. 26
To help you find your way through history on this page, I used to
make Samplers with a track of every LP. The last one was posted in
july of this year. About time I did the next one so here it is.
From this volume and forth I shall skip some LP’s with tracks that
cover a whole LP-side, they spoil the pace, but every track on the
sampler still represents an album on the page. This one covers
posts in april of this year. Find Global Samplers
1 to 25 in the labelsection on your left.tracks;

There are much more male than female singers in Congo. On this LP by
le Grand Maitre however we hear two lady’s with sweet voices. I don’t know
anything about them, first time they show up for me. Volume 2 from the same
session as the previous album, hope you like dem.P.S. I made a little mistake in the file, I wrote cherie instead of cheri,
(feminin/masculin) can you change it yourself to remain correct ? Well done.tracks;

Let’s colour this sunday Congolese.
I am not kidding if I say this is one of the best Franco albums ever.
We hear Franco and Lutumba Simaro singing the fantastic ‘La reponse de
Mario’. Don’t you just love that voice of Simaro with it’s vibrato ?
hang on for part two, with Nana and Baniel, pretty faces and pretty voices.tracks;

Listening to Samba is something one has to learn. I always compare
it with eating olives or drinking Belgian beer. The first time you
think; Ooof this is quite different, second time it is already getting
a little better and third time you really start to like it.
One way or another, for me there’s no way back, hooked for life.This LP is a quite rare one, I never saw it untill I found it
this week. It contains tracks that represent several samba schools
in Rio de Janeiro. We have Martinho and Antônio Grande from Vila Isabel,
Anália from Império Serrano, Mário from Tijuca, Zuzuca from Salgueiro,
Darcy Monteiro from Mangueira and Cabana from Portela. Hope you like it.
This is Samba as pure as it gets.tracks;

2 Mário – De fevereiro a fevereiro
3 Anália – Só deus
4 Martinho da Vila – Deixa serenar
5 Zuzuca – Tristeza de malandro

He was born in Zaïre in a musical family and inherited his talent from
his father. Maïka started his career age 16 playing a guitar he had from
his older brother. He was noticed by Tabu Ley and played with the
great Orchestre Afrisa International for 6 years. This LP was made
under supervision of Abel Lima who rediscovered Maïka.

This Samba collector on OKeh Records is a project with the artistic
leadership of Zuzuca on 8 out of 12 tracks. He sings on two tracks,
#2 and #10. The sound of 1973, Rio de Janeiro, can you imagine how
different from now it must have been. This LP has been quite
commercial in those days but today it has another value, a nostalgic
one. I am very exited with this find, enjoy Super Samba vol. 1 !tracks;

was the one with two requests so here she is. Salawa has a full and
strong voice, surrounded by all those drums this sounds fabulous.

Gente, hoje sou feliz pa’caramba. O sorte que eu tenho, não é molhe não.
Olhe o que achei, um pedaço de ouro que te vai fazer doido. Abaixe rapido.Look what I found today. On my never ending search for records I went to
a town I don’t visit frequently and got real lucky. The score is so nice I
hardly know where to start. I found some samba albums on the OKeh label,
a branch of CBS, of which the first post. Three albums on the
Romanian ‘Electrecord’ label, some Discos Fuentes from Colombia, some great
LP’s on Syliphone, Eddy’Son, just super and you can share that luck with me.
Tell me what to post next, and most wanted goes first.
There’s also some Choc Stars, Fuji with a female singer called Salawa Abeni,
Docteur Nico, Jonah Moyo and Pamelo Mounk’a. Coupé Cloué or Lisandro Meza.Now about this album, when I saw Zuzuca between those LP’s I had a shiver
going down my spine. An album like this doesn’t show up every day and I realised
immediately, we’ve got something special here. OKeh stands for topnotch samba
and I didn’t need more then one listen to know I struck gold. This is one of
the best samba LP’s I have ever heard. No less then 14 tracks, one
even better than the other. The pile of OKeh’s counts one other Zuzuca
and 4 samba collectors, plain fantastic !Vamos a Sambar a noite inteira !

If you like Romanian ‘Lautari’, this one is for you.
This album was released in 1984, the recordings must be
much older though, she passed away in 1963, not even 50 years old.
I do not understand Romanian but this music is beautiful,
even without knowing what it means she sings, I enjoy Maria Tanase’s
warm voice. For your relaxed sunday afternoon.tracks;
