It’s been a busy week, lots of appointments, work
in my woman’s garden, beautiful weather, too much
going on to find the time to post ..

In 1975 Sir Partick Idahosa made at least four albums.
This WAPS 199 must have been his second or third if we
count Decca’s WAPS numbers. Sparkling highlife from
Sir Patrick. Listen, care and share ..

Het was een drukke week, veel afspraken, werk in
de tuin van m’n vrouw, prachtig weer, teveel dingen
om nog tijd te vinden voor het posten van muziek ..

In 1975 maakte Sir Patrick Idahosa zeker vier albums.
Deze WAPS 199 moet zijn tweede of derde plaat zijn
geweest, afgaande op Decca’s WAPS telling. Fris
bruisende highlife van Sir Patrick. Laad neder,
luister en deel zoals gebruikelijk ..

As most of our Etsakor highlife records, this one with Chief
I.I. Ayeni is also not free of noise. Being from 1979 it could
have been worse though. It is the third album we have with
the chief and the oldest until now. Slow music
from Ora, Bendel State ..

Zoals de meeste Etsakor platen in de collectie is ook deze niet
vrij van wat achtergrond geluid. Uitgebracht in 1979 had het
nog wel erger kunnen zijn, we doen her ermee. Het is de derde
die we tot dusver van hem hebben en de oudste zover.

De grote Pacho Galán spitste zich op dit album toe op de
percussie zoals de titel reeds doet vermoeden. Met een
aantal gaita’s en cumbia’s laat hij zijn ‘orquesta’ lekker los
gaan in instumentale zin. Over het algemeen post ik
meer vocale albums, maar voor deze maak ik
graag een uitzondering ..

The great Pacho Galán focused primarily on percussion
on this album as the title already suggests. With a number
of gaita’s and cumbia’s he lets his ‘orquesta’ go crazy in the
instrumental sense of the word. In general I tend to post
more vocal records, but for this one
I love to make an exception ..

Early eighties the reggae/dub poetry movement took place.
We saw Poet and the Roots, which was Linton Kwesi Johnson,
Michael Smith, Benjamin Zephaniah, Oku Onoura and also
Mutabaruka. This is his 1983 album we played a lot almost
40 years ago, time flies. The lyrics are still relevant today.
Protest songs about war, rape, discrimination and a rotten
system can easily be listened to in the present time.

In de vroege jaren tachtig was er een beweging gaande die
we reggae/dub poëzie noemen. Jongens als Poet and the Roots,
(Linton Kwesi Johnson) Michael Smith, Benjamin Zephaniah,
Oku Onoura, maar ook Mutabaruka deden hun ding. Dit is
zijn plaat uit 1983, veel gedraaid bijna 40 jaar geleden.
De tijd vliegt. Deze teksten die oorlog, verkrachting,
discriminatie en het verrotte systeem belichten,
kunnen ook vandaag nog worden beluisterd.

Yesterday I visited a quite small record market here in the
Netherlands. It really wasn’t much for me. Some 50 stand-
holders displayed their Stones, led Zeppelin and all of those
groups we see so often on fairs. Only one or two had a few
African records. Man how lucky can one be, I found this
awesome album with Nana Ampadu I and his African
Brothers Band International for only € 15,-. It is from
1985 and a true killer. Don’t miss it, listen ..

Gisteren heb ik een kleine platenmarkt bezocht in Utrecht.
Het was niet bijster interessant hoor. Iets van 50 standhou-
ders met hun eeuwige Stones, Led Zeppelin en andere lp’s
van groepen die we zoveel zien op dit soort marktjes. Éen
of twee hadden een paar Afrikaanse platen. Maar wat
schetste mijn verbazing, tussen die paar plaatjes vond
ik deze parel met Nana Ampadu I en zijn African
Brothers Band International uit 1985. Hij kostte
slechts € 15,- en is een top album. Luister ..

Ray Perez and Perucho Torcat reased this album with
Los Kenya in 1970. Later in 1973 they brought it out again
under their own names, called ‘They Do It’. I have received
this file through a friend of the Global Groove. If you play it,
the image of the later release appears. One way or the other,
this is sweet salsa from the early seventies, listen ..

Ray perez en Perucho Torcat brachten in 1970 dit album uit
met Los Kenya. Drie jaar later deden ze dat nog eens onder
hun eigen namen, toen als ‘They Do It’. Ik heb deze gekregen
van een vriend van de Global Groove. Als je hem afspeelt ver-
schijnt de cover van de latere uitgave. Hoe dan ook, dit is
fijne salsa uit de vroege jaren zeventig, luister ..

Benny Moré started his career with the Trio Matamoros in the 1940s
and after a tour in Mexico he decided to stay in the country. Both Moré
and dancer Ninón Sevilla made their cinematic debut in 1946’s Carita
de cielo, but Moré focused on his music career. In the late 1940s, he
sang guaracha-mambos with Perez Prado, achieving great success.
Moré returned to Cuba in 1952 and worked Read More (Wikipedia)

Good morning fellow music lovers, as you might have seen
Jillem at HTD just posted Lucho Bermudez‘ collector that was
released by my friends of Radio Martiko from Gent , Belgium.
Wonderful music, in a later stage I will post some old originals
from his hand. Another famous orchestral leader from the same
period was Pacho Galán. He was called ‘The King of Merecumbé’.
Today I bring you this album on which a bunch of his merecumbé.
Pacho began his musical career from very young, age 14 he played
violin and clarinet and made his first composition. As bonus tracks
I added some of his greatest hits, ‘Boquita Sala’, ‘Fiesta de Cumbia’,
‘Cumbia Alegre’ and ‘Ay Cosita Linda’. Enjoy listening ..

Goeiemorgen muziek vrienden, zoals je wellicht hebt gezien postte
Jillem van HTD gisteren Lucho Bermudez‘verzamel album dat kort
geleden is uitgebracht door mijn vrienden van Radio Martiko uit
Gent, België. Prachtige muziek, ik zal later nog eens wat van zijn
oude originals posten. Een ander groot orkest leider uit dezelfde
periode was Pacho Galán. Hij werd ‘The King of Merecumbé’ ge-
noemd. Op deze plaat vertolkt hij een aantal merecumbé’s. Pacho
begon zijn muzikale carrière reeds jong. Op 14 jarige leeftijd speelde
hij al viool en clarinet en schreef hij zijn eerste compositie. Als bonus
heb ik enkele van zijn grootste hits, , ‘Boquita Sala’, ‘Fiesta de Cumbia’,
‘Cumbia Alegre’ en ‘Ay Cosita Linda’ toegevoegd. Luister ..
