- Saturday December 6, 20085 comments on Lord Creator – Jamaica Time, Studio One, mid 60’s
When it comes to handling smooth ballads, Lord Creator always
was a class of his own. In the 60’s he recorded Calypso
and also Ska, but his style was quite different from what
others were doing those days. Lord Creator was born Kentrick
Patrick in San Fernando, Trinidad, but spent a lot of years in
Jamaica. “When UB40 honoured the quality of his ‘Kingston Town’,
and included it on their ‘Labour of Love’ cover version album,
Creator was able to buy a house in Jamaica from the Royalties.”

Lord Kitchener’s or Kitch’s albums you don’t find every day.
I got kinda lucky, last week I already posted ‘Spirit of Carnival’
which I recently found and today here’s ‘Curfew Time’. I bought
this one last sunday when I explored some of my favourite
Amsterdam recordshops. Curfew Time is from 1971, it’s Calypso
at it’s best.tracks;

THIS IS A REPOST !
I got a few comments on this LP that was posted already some
time ago at Global Groove. There seemed to be something wrong
with the quality, so I decided to rip it again to the latest
standards. Cover scans are also better.This is an oldie. From 1967 this is Byron Lee with some very
happy music. Jump Up is Calypso related and originally not
from Jamaica. But Byron Lee controlled all Caribbean styles.
If you need to upgrade your party summerstyle, this one is
guaranteed 100 % Jump Up !tracks;
1 Riverbank Jump Up
2 Benwood Dick
3 El negrito
4 The road march
5 Jamaica Jump Up

It took me a couple of days again to get back to you Groovers,
we all need to work now and then. Here’s another Calypso collector
from somewhere down the cabinet. Again there’s no year stated here.
Ripping this one turned a big smile on my face, check out ‘the Mighty
Duke’s Woop Wap, fantastic lyrics.tracks;

Okay okay, I get it, that was a bit too dark for y’all,
so I’ll make it up to ya.
Here’s a more sunny record, Lord Jellico makes the sun shine again.

PAY ATTENTION
Before you start downloading this rare Calypso Collector, please
take notice of the fact that track # 8, ‘Don’t touch me nylon’, is
unfortunately broken. It jumps a few times. I had to trick track #
10 too, it was too broken to place. This is a rare collector of old
calypsos, no year is given. An LP full of ‘naughty songs’, you don’t
need too much imagination to hear between the lines. Taken the
condition and some cracks and hiss, this is still a spin worth it’s
while, and how about that great cover ?tracks;
1 Lord Kitchener – Kitch
2 Duke of Iron – Big bamboo
3 Lord Kitchener – Muriel and the bug
4 Duke of Iron – I left her behind for you

While I was working on this post, gathering information, I found ou
that ‘Miss Baikinange’ of ‘Schadenfreudian Therapy’ already placed
it. I guess I knew but didn’t pay attention. Check her page, linked at
the sidebar. This is a great album, worthy of a second posting !
‘Aldwyn Roberts’ or ‘Lord Kitchener’ is the main man in

Ever since I found this LP, I was a youngster, I fel in love
with it’s cover, what a gorgeous drawing by Abigail Maucotel.
And then that sound, ‘Jump Up’ is Trinidad music, the happiest sound
you’ve ever heard. This is serious Party material,

I’d have to gamble on the year on this LP, I’d say 1969, if any one
knows.. If you listen to the hilarius song ‘Child training’ on the album,
‘All time Calypso from Trinidad and Tobago’, posted earlier this week,
you know what to expect here, Composer is a funny guy,tracks;

3 Reconstruction

The late Sixties was the time Calypso flourished the most in my opinion.
This LP sounds a bit like a fireside recording ( lot’s of cracks )
but still, it’s the best calypso I’ve ever heard,
Lord Kitchener is the Master.tracks;
1 ’67
2 Panorama night
3 Grenadian May
4 Take you’ meat out me rice
5 Get up and get
