Dit is de zesde plaat die we van deze band plaatsen. Hij stamt
uit 1978 en klinkt typisch oost Afrikaans. De stijl hangt een
beetje tussen cavacha en benga zoals je van een groep uit
deze contrijen zou mogen verwachten. Congolese invloeden
maar toch echt Kenyaans. Een heerlijk album, niet te missen..

This is the sixth record we post by this band. It is from the year
1978 and sounds typical east African. Its style covers both benga
and cavacha, just the way we’re supposed to expect from a group
from these parts. Congolese influences but still really Kenyan.
A very nice record, not to be missed..

Op Disco Stock hebben we vandaag een mooi stukje cavacha
van de Congolese groep Viva la Musica. Voorman Papa Wemba
overleed afgelopen zaterdag tijdens een optreden in Abidjan op
66 jarige leeftijd. Hij kwam tijdens zijn carriere diverse malen in
opspraak, onder andere wegens mensensmokkel. Papa wemba’s
echte naam was Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba. Hij was
een van de oprichters van Zaïko Langa Langa..

On Disco Stock we’ve got this slice of cavacha by Viva la Musica.
Frontman Papa Wemba died last saturday during a performance
in Abidjan, age 66. He was involved in smugging scandals a few
times in his life. His real name was Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene
Kikumba. Papa Wemba was one of the founders of Zaïko Langa
Langa. Listen to his most succesful band, Viva la Musica..

It must have been around 1981, the release of this album
I mean, taken the popularity of the syn-drum. It didn’t take
very long before the whole world got tired with it but here
we are still in the phase in which it was hot to use them.
It is slightly disturbing if you want but it’s also funny to
hear the stuff again. Nuff said, Shama-Shama was in-
troduced to me thru this album on the African label. I fell
in love with the voice of Mopera Wa Maloba straight
away. Warm cavacha sound you don’t want
to miss, get it & spread it..
