That Captain beefheart must have been shocking for most of our
visitors. I understand. Let’s get back to the stuff you’re used to find
here. Etsakor highlife is also not the easiest but certainly the finest.
Mrs. Waziri and her velvet voice, the kids on the frontsleeve seem
to feel the importance of the picture sitting on the hood of their new
mercedes. They look so serious, she must have said, do not move those
hinies, one small scratch and you’ll be sorry .. The album does also not
have one scratch, a rarity ..

Die Captain Beefheart moet een schok zijn geweest voor veel van onze
bezoekers. Ik begrijp het. Laten we maar terugkeren naar de muziek die
je hier wat meer gewend bent te vinden. Etsakor highlife is wellicht ook
niet de makkelijkste sound, wel de fijnste. Mrs. Waziri is hier met haar
fluwelen stem. De kinderen op de voorkant van de plaat zien blijkelijk
de ernst wel van de foto met hen op de motorkap van hun nieuwe
Mercedes. Zoo serrieus kijken ze erbij. Zij moet gezegd hebben,
hou die billetjes muisstil, één krasje en je zult het bezuren ..
De plaat heeft overigens ook geen enkel krasje,
een zeldzaamheid ..

Goedemorgen lezers en luisteraars van de Global Groove.
Allereerst wens ik iedereen een mooi, vredig en gezond
2020 met veel fijne muziek, liefde en voorspoed. Laten
we het nieuwe jaar en decennium openen met de zeer
gewaardeerde highlife uit Etsakor. Vandaag een plaat
met Queen Orete and her Ijewele Dance. Er is verdomd
weinig over de queen te vinden. Haar highlife gaat op
deze elpee vergezeld van zeer relaxte gitaar klanken.
Lekker mellow het nieuwe jaar in, luister ..

Good morning readers and listeners of the Global Groove.
To begin with I want to wish everybody a wonderful, peaceful
and healthy 2020 with lots of nice music, love and such. Let’s
open the new year and decade with the widely apprecia-
ted highlife from Etsakor. Today a record with Queen Orete
and her Ijewele Dance. Very little is known about the queen.
Her highlife is accompanied by very relaxed guitar sounds.

On Ijebor Records we find another Etsakor highlife album
with the Young Stars of Weppa Wanno led by Pius Ikhimokpa.
Rare Nigerian afenmai record specially released in memory of
late Chief Madam Mulemu Igieti Ogbaka Queen Usomine the
1st of Weppa Wanno. No year of release is known ..

Op Ijebor Records vinden we dit Etsakor highlife album met
the Young Stars of Weppa Wanno led by Pius Ikhimokpa.
Een zeldzame Nigeriaanse afenmai plaat speciaal uitgegeven
in de herrinnering van late Chief Madam Mulemu Igieti Ogbaka
Queen Usomine de eerste van Weppa Wanno. Het jaar
van uitgifte is helaas niet bekend ..

Ze smaken zoals ze kraken, welk zoutjesmerk gebruikte deze
leus ook alweer ? Doet er niet toe. Ik ga eens een zwikkie lp’s
posten die eigenlijk teveel achtergrond geluid meedragen.
Zoveel dat het eigenlijk voorgrondgeluid wordt. Tegelijk zijn
het muzikale juweeltjes die beter verdienen. Sommigen van
jullie hebben tools in huis om kraakjes te verminderen, als
er daardoor niet teveel verloren gaat, een prima oplossing.
Vandaag een plaatje met Ali Chukwuma uit Nigeria’s 1977.
Laat ‘m je smaken ondanks het vele kraken ..

Some records that deserve better are doomed to get forgotten
because they carry far too much background noise. A real shame.
I’m going to post some of those despite the crackle and pops they
have. Some of you have the tools to reduce these disturbing sounds.
If that doesn’t hurt the recording too much, a good idea I’d say. Today
we find this record with Ali Chukwuma from Nigeria’s 1977, a nice
one if not so noisy. Part from audio freaks maybe interesting
for some of you ..

Sometimes a record looks reasonably clean but sounds awful
noisy. Today we get kinda lucky, only the sleeve is a bit worn
out but the vinyl is fairly good. It concerns another Etsakor
highlife record with Omo Smart Idonigie. It is KSLPS 12 which
we don’t find in Discogs’ discography. On Kabakar Sounds,
from 1978. They call it Afro Beat, Highlife and Uzairue.
Deep yet groovy Nigerian music ..

Soms vind je een plaat die er goed uitziet maar dan toch enorm
krakerig klinkt. Vandaag hebben we betrekkelijk veel geluk, deze
is tamelijk clean. Alleen de hoes is nogal versleten. Het betreft hier
wederom zo’n Etsakor highlife elpee met Omo Smart Idonigie. Het
is KSLPS 12 welke niet voorkomt in het rijtje op Discogs’ discografie.

First there are eight records on Decca, then three on Shanu Olu
Records and then four on Ebohon Records of which this is the first
one from 1980, EBLPS 01. Super deep Etsakor highlife with master
Waziri. Another lesson taught to us by my supplier Sofian from
Paris, thanks a million Sofian ..

De eerste acht platen kwamen uit op Decca, daarna drie op Shanu
Olu Records en dan vier op Ebohon Records waarvan dit de eerste is
uit 1980, EBLPS 01. Super diepe Etsakor highlife met meester Waziri.
Wederom een wijze les van platen leverancier Sofian uit Parijs,
enorm bedankt weer Sofian ..

For your lazy sunday afternoon we’ve got this 1975 album with
the great Celestine Ukwu and his Philosophers’ National. Gentle
and lyrical Igbo highlife. It has this ultra relaxed feel like the sound
of Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe and Ali Chukwumah. Chillin’ ..

Speciaal voor je luie zondagmiddag hebben we vandaag dit zeer
relaxte album met de ‘late and great’ Celestine Ukwu. ‘Gentle and
lyrical Igbo highlife’. Het heeft die ontspannen sfeer zoals de muziek
van Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe en Ali Chukwumah. Chillin’ ..

Another treasure with the wife of Alhaji Sir Waziri Oshomah.
Sir Waziri clearly participates on this album. It appeared on
Shanu Olu in 1986 and contains four nice tracks. Alhaja
Hassanah Waziri and her Velvet Voice, sweet Etsakor
highlife, great musicians, I love it .. and you ..

Hie hebben we nog zo’n prachtplaat met de vrouw van Alhaji
Sir Waziri Oshomah. Sir Waziri is duidelijk ook van de partij.
Hij verscheen op Shanu Olu Rcords in 1986 en bevat vier fijne
songs. Alhaja Hassanah Waziri and her Velvet Voice, heerlijke
Etsakor highlife, ik ben er gek op .. en jij ..
