Lord Melody was born Fitzroy Alexander in 1926, San Fernando,
Trinidad and Tobago. He had his training to calypsonian by Alwyn
Roberts, better known as Lord Kitchener. On this record from 1960
we find Belmont Jackass in which Melody berates Mighty Sparrows
wife. It is Melody’s third album for Cook and fourth overall. In Trinidad
this elpee was released under the name Melody’s Top Ten with different
sleeve and track order. We have the US version. Get it & spread it..

Toen zeker vier van de bandleden van Ray Barretto’s groep hem
in 1972 tegelijk verlieten om met enkele andere muzikanten
Típica 73 te beginnen, waren er veel sceptici. De band werd echter
razend populair en scoorde met hum experimentele stijl enorm
goed. Ze maakten zo’n negen albums tot ze in 1982 uit elkaar
vielen. Met Adalberto Santiago. Dit is hun tweede
plaat, het beluisteren zeer waard..

When four of the members of the original band of Ray Barretto
left him simultaneously to start Tipica 73 in 1972, many people
were sceptical about it. The group however was enormously success-
ful with its experimental style and produced some nine records until
they split up in 1982. With Adalberto Santiago. This is their
second album, worth at least a couple of spins.

Ik verkeerde in de veronderstelling dat ik deze plaat al eens
gepost had maar dat blijkt op een blog te zijn geweest welk
ik niet meer gebruik. Ramdog’s Roughsite was de naam en
toen de diverse webhosters mijn files hadden weggegooid,
heb ik de site leeg achtergelaten. je kunt er nog wel heen maar
er staat niets meer op. Hoog tijd dus om deze prachtplaat op
de GG te plaatsen. Jackie Lomax’ ‘Home is in my Head’ uit 1971.
Luister en besef, dit is prachtig..

I was certain I posted this album in the past. It’s true, I did but
on a blog I do not use anymore. It was on Ramdog’s Roughsite
which I left empty when webhosters threw away my files. You
can still go there but there’s nothing left to download. About
time I posted this wonderful record here at the GG. Listen to
Jackie Lomax’ ‘Home is in my Head ‘ from 1971 and come to
realise, this is beautiful music..

In m’n vroege jaren als muziekverzamelaar was het voornamelijk
pop muziek waar ik warm voor liep. Op de een of andere manier
duik ik in december altijd in de kast op zoek naar oude juweeltjes
die ik dan weer herbeleef. Deze plaat van Love is er een uit 1969
die ik nog altijd met erg veel plezier beluister. Prachtige muziek,
artwork dat het oog streelt, zo’n hoes alleen al. Al draaiend ga je
vanzelf terug in de tijd. probeer eens iets anders,
luister naar Love.. <3

In my early years as a music collector it was mostly pop music
that caught my attention. Somehow in december I always dive
into the past, going through the records searching for old time
jewells I do than relive. This album by Love is one from 1969 I
still listen to with lots of pleasure. Beautiful sound, artwork that
catches the eye, its cover alone. Playing such a record makes you
go back in time. Try something else for a change,
listen to Love .. <3

The brothers Mario and Ignacio Hernández take care of the
vocal parts but Mario is the one making the sound in this
group. His skills on the tres are magnificent. Listen to Sexteto
Borinquen from 1974 and original from Puerto Rico but released
on the Ansonia label from New york. In general I am no lover of
bolero but the way these guys play it, sweet stuff..

Dit zijn de jongens van Sexteto Borinquen, Mario Hernández
en zijn broer Ignacio doen de vokalen. De magnifieke skills
van Mario en zijn tres maken de sound naar mijn mening.
Uit 1974 en origineel uit Puerto Rico maar uitgebracht op
Ansonia uit New York. Over het algemeen ben ik geen
liefhebber van bolero maar zo als deze jongens het
spelen, heerlijk hoor..

Het mag dan op papier zomer zijn, in de realiteit lijkt het er
nog niet heel erg op. Slechts zo’n 21 graadjes vandaag. Erg
jammer voor de mensen die de parade van het zomercarnaval
in Rotterdam bezoeken. Over de deelnemers nog maar te zwijgen
zoals de nieuwe koningin, Geneitha.
Laten wij er zelf dan maar wat zomer van maken met Ray Reyes

Mijn eerste encounter met New Orleans funky muziek moet
eind jaren zestig hebben plaats gevonden. Toen Lee Dorsey
de hit ‘Working in the coalmine’ had. Ik was nog te jong om het
te beseffen. Pas eind jaren zeventig drong het allemaal tot me
door. Met de platen van Dr. John, the Meters e.d. werd duidelijk
hoe geweldig deze muziek is. Het was nóg veel later toen ik kennis
maakte met Bo Dollis en de Wild Magnolias. Hier hebben we hun 1974
album. Een andere groep New Orleans indianen was The Wild Tchoupitoulas,
een soortgelijke band die ook in de jaren zeventig opereerde. Met de
broertjes Neville van de Meters en geproduceerd door Allen toussaint
die ook de hit ‘Working in the coalmine’ had geschreven. Tijdens de Mardi
Gras, het New Orleans carnaval komt het allemaal samen, indianen bont
gekleed de straat op, de muziek uit het stof, één groot feest in de straten.

My first encounter with New Orleans funky music must have taken place
during he end of the sixties when Lee Dorsey had a hit with ‘Working in the
coalmine’. I was too young to realise though. Only by the end of the seventies
it started to become clear to me. listening to Dr. John and the Meters I found
out just how great this music is. Still much later I got aquainted with the music
of Bo Dollis and the Wild magnolias. Today we’ve got their 1974 album. Another
New Orleans Indian group was The Wild Tchoupitoulas, with the brothers Neville
of the Meters and produced by Allen Toussaint who wrote ‘Working in the coalmine’.
They operated around the same time, mid seventies. During the Mardi gras, the
New Orleans carnival, it all comes together, Indians go out dresed in colours and
the streets of New Orleans turn into a big party. Do check these records
to find out, listen and agree, this is wild party stuff..
