Dear Groovers, yesterday I posted Alhaji (Chief) Kollington Ayinla
& his African Fuji ’78 Organisation but made a stupid mistake.
It never happened to me before but I recorded side two of the
album two times. Luckily, Theo, an awake visitor, warned me and
this morning I did it over. So I’m very sorry for the 85 people
who had downloaded it. Throw away yesterday’s file and download
it again. This time you’ll find the right tracks.

Beste Groevers, gisteren heb ik een plaat van Alhaji (Chief)
Kollington Ayinla & his African Fuji ’78 Organisation geplaatst
maar er zat helaas een domme fout in de file. Het is me nog niet
eerder gebeurd maar ik heb per ongeluk twee maal de b-side opgenomen.
Het spijt me voor de 85 mensen die hem al hadden gedownload, jullie
zullen dit nog een keertje moeten doen. Gooi die van gisteren maar weg.
Dit keer heb ik beide kanten erop gezet, foutje, bedankt ..

Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s biggest competition came from this
man. Alhaji ‘Chief’ Kollington Ayinla and his Fuji ’78 Organisation
made a whole bunch of records. Discogs alone shows 37 of them.
Once again, phat back rhythms, you gotta love’m ..

Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s belangrijkste opponent was zonder
twijfel deze man. Alhaji ‘Chief’ Kollington Ayinla and his Fuji
’78 Organisation maakte een flinke stapel platen. Alleen al op
Discogs vinden we er 37. Wederom fijne dikke ritmes ..

De laatste tijd zit ik volop in de Nigeriaanse muziek. Eerder
hadden we hier op de Global groove al een Nigerian Week.
Hierin kwamen juju, apala, fuji en highlife al aan de orde.
Later hadden we een week met in het bijzonder de Etsakor
en Afenmai highlife sound. De komende week staat vervol-
gens volledig in het teken van Apala, Fuji en Waka. Deze
stromingen staan bol van drums en percussie gecombineerd
met vokale hoogstandjes. Eerst was er apala, met artiesten
als Haruna Ishola en Ayinla Omowura. Daaruit kwam de fuji
voort, Ishola en Omowura waren van de eerste lichting en
werden opgevolgd door jongens als Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister
en Kollington Ayinla. Wasiu Ayinde Marshall was hot in
weer later stadium en in zijn slipstream Adewale Ayuba. Tij-
dens de jaren 80 kwam een mengeling van juju, fuji en tradi-
tionele Yoruba muziek in zwang die waka wordt genoemd.
Dames als Salawa Abeni en Alhaja Adijat Kubura Alaragbo,
Salawa Abeni werd de ‘Queen of Waka Music’ gedoopt.
Kortom, het belooft een week vol drumspektakel met een
vleugje Islam maar ook keihard dansgeweld, enjoy ..

For quite a few months now I am caught up in Nigerian music.
On an earlier occasion we had a sole Nigerian Week here at the
Global Groove with juju, fuji, apala and highlife. Then later we
had a week with Etsakor and Afenmai highlife. The coming week
will be entirely dominated by apala, fuji and waka. These waves
are full of drums and percussion combined with vocal tours de
force. First there was apala, with artists like Harune Ishola and
Ayinla Omowura. Apala was followed by fuji, Ishola and Omowara
were the first, then came guys like Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister
and Kollington Ayinla. Wasiu Ayinde Mashall was hot in the late
eighties followed by for instance Adewale Ayuba. During the same
eighties waka music became popular, a mixture of juju, fuji and
traditional Yoruba music. Ladies like Salawa Abeni and Alhaja
Adijat Kubura Alaragbo, Salawa Abeni was crowned ‘Queen
of Waka Music’. In short, it will be a week full of drums with
a spark of Islam but also powerful dance vibes ..

In 2014 and 2016 we had some of his records among which
volume two of Prince Thony Adex’ Makossa releases ‘Master
Juju Guitarist’. Today we find Volume No. 1 which is a tribute
to Sunny Adé. We also had this 1974 album and this 1978 one.
Enjoy listening to Thony Adex and his Sedico System once more ..

In 2014 en 2016 hadden we al eens enkele van zijn platen waaronder
volume twee van Prince Thony Adex’ Makossa releases ‘Master Juju
Guitarist. Vandaag vinden we Volume één welke een eerbetoon aan
Sunny Adé is. We hadden ook reeds deze uit 1974 en deze uit 1978.
Luister nogmaals naar Prince Thony Adex en zijn Sedico System ..

We hadden al wat apala platen met Ayinla Omowura en onlangs
tijdens de Nigerian Week met Akanni Animashaun. Haruna Ishola
is een andere grote in het veld. Van hem hadden we nog niets
tot dusver. Meestal vind je zijn platen met op elke kant een lange
track. Op deze 10″ staan tien losse songs, mooi spul ..

We had a couple of apala records so far with Ayinla Omowura and
recently during the Nigerian Week with Akanni Animashaun. Haruna
Ishola is another great artists in the field. We didn’t have any of his
albums yet. Mostly we find his records with one long track per side,
today’s 10″ has ten separate songs, decent stuff ..

We hadden reeds platen van Toto Necessité met Rodrigue Milien,
tevens als Combite Creole. Daarnaast hadden we Toto solo en nu
met drummer Ocelito. Compas die lekker wegluistert. Deze is uit
1983 en op Dorceant’s Records. Twoubadou
noemen ze deze mellow stijl ..

We already had records by Toto Necessité with Rodrigue Milien,
also as Combite Creole. Than we saw records by Toto solo and
now with drummer Ocelito. Compas that listens easily. This one
is from 1983 and on Dorceant’s Records. Twoubadou is
how they call this mellow style ..
