This is another album with the late and great Elio Revé Matos.
His Changüí style is in fact an old form of son. It was long forgotten
until Elio Revé took it up and re-invented it so to speak. This 1988
record contains a few of his biggest hits, sweet rhythms and vocals
you don’t want to miss. Get it and spread it..

Hier hebben we nog zo’n fijne plaat met de ‘late & great’ Elio Revé
Matos. Zijn Changüí, salsa stijl is eigenlijk een lange tijd vergeten
vorm van de son die door Elio Revé is opgepakt en nieuw leven is
ingeblazen. Deze elpee uit 1988 bevat enkele van zijn grootste hits.

gezien maar de muziek van dit zonnige eiland verdient meer.
Maar eens een weekje alleen Cubaanse muziek dus, Semana
Cubana begint vandaag met Orquesta Original de Manzanillo.
Manzanillo is een gemeente en tevens de veertiende stad qua
grootte en ligt in het zuiden van Cuba in de provincie Granma.

Over the years we had us quite some Cuban records here at
the GG but the music from this sunny island deserves more.
I thought it might be a good idea to do a whole week of Cuban
music. This Semana Cubana opens today with Orquesta Original
de Manzanillo. Manzanillo is a municipality and the fourteenth
largest city of Cuba and finds itself in the south of the country.

Tot nu toe was elke plaat van Orchestre Stukas en Lita Bembo
in de roos. Veel van onze bezoekers gaan hier volledig door uit
de plaat. ..En terecht, de unieke sound van Lita Bembo maakt
je los uit je luie stoel en stuurt je de hele kamer door. Track #3,
La Samba was hier reeds eerder, laat je nu maar gaan..

Until now every record by Orchestre Stukas and Lita Bembo
has been a top score. Many of our visitors go completely mad
listening to them. ..And quite rightly, the unique sound of Lita
Bembo makes you rise from your chair and sends you around

Gisteren hadden we echt een mazzeltje, in één van Amsterdams
platenzaakjes vond ik deze Panamese prachtplaat voor slechts
€ 12,-. Buitengewoon zeldzaam tegen zoiets aan te lopen. Dank
o dank grote goden der muzikale voorzienigheid. Ik had nog niet
eerder van Kike Subia gehoord en ook niet van het label ‘Luna’
maar ben onmiddelijk een fan. Laat deze niet liggen,
pak hem mee en deel hem als altijd..

Yesterday we got oh so very lucky, in one of Amsterdams record
stores I found this Panamenian wonder record for only € 12,-.
Exceptional rare to walk into something like this. Thank oh thank
great gods of musical providence. I had not heard of Kike Subia or
‘Luna’ label before but am an instant fan. Do not neglect
this record, get it and spread it as usual..

Als een oude plaat kraakt van de vele keren dat hij gedraaid is
in zijn leven kun je dat op verschillende manieren opvatten.
Enerzijds zonde dat de sound niet super clean is, anderzijds
kan men denken, het heeft een reden dat deze schijf zo klinkt.
Hij is niet voor niets zo vaak gedraaid. Dit is er zo eentje, stuk
voor stuk heerlijke tracks van de grote Marinês. Ze heeft
er vele geproduceerd maar deze uit 1968 is voor
de liefhebbers van forró, niet te missen..

If an old record crackles because of the many times it has been
played one can take it in different ways. One way is thinking, what
a waste, another way of looking at it is thinking, it has a reason this
disc sounds like this. It wasn’t played so often if it wasn’t a killer.
This is such an album, one by one delightful tracks by the great
Marinês. She made a whole bunch but this one from 1968
stands out , it has a lot of noise but is still not to be
missed for the lovers of forró..

de in Portugal heruitgebrachte versie uit ik weet niet welk jaar.
Ook deze is ondertussen een collectors item geworden. Heel
blij dat ik een exemplaar tegen het lijf ben gelopen vorige week.
Vijf acts met grote namen uit Angola’s zeventiger jaren..

Originally released in Mozambique in 1975, this is the re-release
made in Portugal in I don’t know what year. Even this has become
a collector’s item in the meantime. Very happy I walked into this
one last week. Five acts with historical names from Angola’s
seventies. Enjoy listening..

I was asked if there was more in this series and it just so
happens there is. I almost forgot about it. This one comes from
cd and it is from 1989. The songs the copper miners from the
early years in Zambia used to sing. Not only miners but also
minstrels who travelled from mine to mine putting on shows
in the compounds for a living. We hear about three languages,
Aushi, Bemba and Luunda. Bemba and Luunda being from Zaïre.

Ik kreeg de vraag of er meer delen in deze serie beschikbaar
waren en ik vergat bijna deze. Hij komt van cd en verscheen in
1989. We vinden hier de muziek van de kopermijnwerkers uit
de ‘Copperbelt’. We horen niet alleen de mijnwerkers maar ook
rondtrekkende muzikanten die van mijn naar mijn trokken en
shows opzetten om hun brood te verdienen. We horen hier
voornamelijk de talen, Aushi, Bemba en Luunda. Bemba en
Luunda zijn talen die uit Zaïre stammen.

It is just because of that album I found out tracks two and three
have been switched on label and backsleeve of the record we
have today. The second song is Ursulla with the Black Star
Music Club which we know from the earlier post. I can only
hope that the other songs are the ones given on sleeve and
label and in that correct order. Taarab or ‘Tarabu’ is a type of
music, almost Arabic or Indian. To get a better idea, you should

Tot nu toe hadden we slechts één plaat met dit soort muziek.
Je kunt hem hier vinden.
Doordat we dit album al kennen ontdekte ik dat titels twee en drie
verwisseld zijn op hoes en label van het album dat we vandaag
hebben. Het tweede nummer is Ursulla en de Black Star Music
Club welke we van de vorige posting kennen. Ik kan slechts hopen
dat de rest van de nummers de juiste zijn en in de juiste volgorde
staan. Taarab of ‘Tarabu’ is een oost Afrikaanse muziekstijl die
veel doet denken aan Arabische of Indiaase muziekstijlen. Om
een beter beeld te krijgen kun je het best de achterkant van de
plaat even lezen, klick erop om hem te vergroten..
