In het verleden zagen we reeds enkele van deze tracks. Helaas en
om een reden die ik niet wens te vermelden moest ik sommige van
de platen waar ze op voor kwamen verwijderen van de Global Groove.
Vandaag zijn ze terug in een nieuwe setting, een Mali compilatie. Ik ga
ervan uit dat ze op deze manier niemand kwaad doen. We zien het wel.
Hoe dan ook, de muziek is te goed om te moeten missen, luister zelf..

occasions. For some mysterious reason they were removed from
the blog at a certain time. Now they are here in a different way

Het is altijd prachtig als je op Youtube de video vindt die bij
het plaatje hoort. Vandaag hebben we zo’n mazzeltje met
Petite Zizina van Soki Vangu en orchestre Bella Bella. Erg
fijne plaat en zeer vermakelijk filmpje. Die vier dansers zijn
gewoon miraculeus. De elpee vonden we wederom via vriend
Aidan die dit zeldzame pareltje meebracht uit Congo.

It is always a joy when we find the video on Youtube which
belongs to the album. Today we have such luck with this lp
by Soki Vangu and Orchestre Bella Bella with the song Petite
Zizina. Very enjoyable record and dito video. The four dancers
are just miraculous. We found the record through our friend
Aidan who brought it back from Congo.

This one is also wonderful and gives more than two hours
watching pleasure, rare and great footage..
..really funny and over the top dressed up dancers
on 28.16 min. Soki Vangu also loves it..
..on 32.08 min. we see Soki Vangu in a video where he
clearly didn’t rehearse upfront, he even forgets to playback..

Hoe het komt weet ik niet maar op de een of andere manier
heb ik een zwak voor de zang van oudere mannetjes. Dit is zo’n
geval. Hij zingt op een wat monotone manier en toch luister ik er
heel graag naar. Juancho Polo Valencia leefde van 1918 tot 1978
en liet een mooie stapel platen achter waarvan we er reeds zo’n
vier hadden. Meer van zijn werk wacht op plaatsing alhier.
Van deze is geen jaartal bekend, op Discos Fuentes..

I don’t know how and why but somehow I have a certain weekness
for the voices of older men. This is such a case. He sang in a kind of
monotonous way but I really like listening to him. Juancho Polo
Valencia lived from 1918 till 1978 and left us quite some records
of which we have seen four so far. More of his work is waiting to
get posted one fine day. No year of release on this one, on
the great Discos Fuentes..

for another day at the office. His co-workers/family members
are already waiting with the proper gear to make it a succes.
It seems they produce T.S. which stands
for Traditional Sound, nice..

Very delightful orchestral compas from 1979.
I can’t seem to tell you anything useful about the band I’m afraid.
I only know this is the perfect music for this type of weather, with
teperatures up to 37 degrees once more. It looks like this summer
is never ending, all records are being broken this year.

Heerlijke orchestrale compas uit 1979.
Over de groep kan ik je weinig vertellen, ik weet alleen dat
dit de ideale sound is bij het weer van vandaag, temperaturen
tot zo’n 37 graden wederom. Er lijkt geen einde te komen aan
de droge hete zomer, alle records worden gebroken dit jaar.

Van de grote Franco kunnen we er altijd nog wel een plaatje
bij hebben. Zijn oeuvre beslaat enkele honderden elpees en
gelukkig duikt er zo nu en dan nog eens een op die we nog
niet hadden. Deze is uit 1980 maar de muziek erop is vele
malen ouder. Hier en daar klinkt het wat krakerig vanwege
de oude opnamen. Een stuk geschiedenis..

If we speak of the great Franco, we can always have another
of his records. His Oeuvre exists of a few hundred albums
and luckily every now and then we find an elpee we didn’t
have yet. This one is from 1980 but the music it contains
is way way older. Here and there it sounds a little noisy
because of the age of the recordings. A piece of history..

Hij is uit 1976, dit juweeltje van Ifang Bondi en de Afro Mandingue
Sounds. Sfeervolle plaat, op het Disques Griot label, die ons mee
neemt op een dromerige reis door West Afrika. Oorspronkelijk
heette ze de Super Eagles en komen uit Gambia. In 1969 en 1974
hebben ze diverse Europese hoofdsteden bezocht. Deze plaat is
opgenomen in de Jandeer Night Club in Dakar, Senegal en bevat
songs in diverse stijlen, mandingo, pop, mbalax, zeg het maar..

Early eighties was the time me and my buddies went out
to search for reggae albums. Nowadays the stuff we bought
in them days go for crazy prices. Sometimes I think I should
have bought much more than I did. One can’t predict the
future though and we were very lucky already. Massive
Dread had a very relaxed way of toasting, listen
to this 1983 album and enjoy doing so..

Als je ziet wat men tegenwoordig voor prijzen betaalt voor
de reggae plaatjes uit de vroege jaren tachtig. In die tijd trokken
we erop uit en kochten heel wat van dit spul. Had ik maar veel
meer gekocht denk je wel eens maar als je alles van te voren
weet.. Massive Dread had zo zijn eigen stijl van toasten, heel
relaxed, luister hier eens naar en maak er een dansje bij..

Listening to track #8 one starts singing,”Africahaa must be free,
by the yeahear 1983..” in your head you hear Hugh Mundell..
Augustus Pablo brings these almost dubs of twelve songs of
which we know some. Rare production from 1978 which
contains Pablo’s breakthrough ‘East of the River Nile’.
An all instrumental album this time..

Luisterend naar track #8 begin je spontaan te zingen, “Africahaa
must be free, by the yeahear 1983..” In je hoofd hoor je Hugh
Mundell.. Augustus Pablo kwam met dit album in 1978 met
twaalf songs die bijna dub zijn. Het bevat zijn doorbraak,
‘East of the River Nile’. Een instrumentaaltje dit keer..

O.K. Fred was a huge hit, written by John Holt in 1972, Errol
Dunkley scored with it again in 1979. On Celluloïd, this is the
original Channel One release. We used to play it a whole lot
back in the days. It still stands strong today, listen..
P.S. I have added John Holt’s original as a bonus.

We hebben hem heel wat gedraaid in de jaren tachtig, O.K. Fred
was een gigantische hit. Origineel van John Holt uit 1972, Errol
Dunkley scoorde er nog eens mee in 1979. Op Celluloïd is dit
de oorspronkelijke Channel One uitgave, luister..
