This is Prince Nwafili Ezekude who also calls himself Ali
Chukwuma Junior. No idea if he is somehow related to
the old Ali Chukwuma but he honours him with this LP.
One way or the other, this sounds kind of fresh and
young. A little bit like the style of Stephen Osita
Osadebe. Incredible rhythm section..

Hier hebben we Prince Nwafili Ezekude die zichzelf ook
wel Ali Chukwuma Junior noemt. Geen idee of hij ergens
familie is van de oude Ali Chukwuma maar hij eert hem
met deze plaat. Hoe dan ook, dit klinkt fris en jong. Het
heeft iets van de stijl van Stephen Osita Osadebe.

from 1978 we have this album by Orchestre Tropicana or
la Fusée d’or d’Haiti. It was highly ranked on the list of best
Haitian records from the 60’s and 70’s by Sofrito labels Hugo
Mendez. Quote; ” Slick, Latin-influenced compass from the
Cap-Haitian based stars. This album runs through different
styles and tempos, from the heavily Cuban ‘Anita’ and ‘Mize
Malere’ to the carnival style ‘Erzulie’, replete with heavy
percussion breakdown.”

Uit 1978 hebben we deze elpee van Orchestre Tropicana
of la Fusée d’Or d’Haïti. Hij staat hoog aangeschreven in
o.a. de lijst van beste platen uit Haïti door Hugo Mendez

Op de laatste beurs in Utrecht bracht platenvriend Aiden uit
Frankrijk deze elpee mee. Hij was begin van het jaar in Congo
en vond daar weer diverse zeldzame platen. Op Google was over
deze jongens geen woord te vinden. Dit is het soort bands waar
we naar op zoek zijn, totaal onbekend maar al luisterend denk
je, waarom ? Als iemand er meer over weet, heel graag.. Alleen

At the latest record fair in Utrecht, music friend Aiden from
France brought us this album. He travelled to Congo earlier this
year and found a bunch of rare records. On Google there wasn’t
a word about these guys. It is this type of groups we are looking
for, totally unknown but listening to them one thinks why ?

She was born april 13, 1921. Dona Ivone Lara da Costa
had some health problems and went to the Rio de Janeiro
hospital on her 97th birthday this year. Three days later
she passed away. Rest in peace Dona Ivone. She wrote a
couple of samba hits during her life, Acreditar, Sonho Meu,
Alguém me Avisou and Tiê were the most famous ones.

Ze werd geboren op 13 april 1921. Dona Ivone Lara da Costa
had al geruime tijd last van bloedarmoede. Op haar 97ste
verjaardag kreeg ze toenemende hart en ademhalingsklachten.
Ze werd opgenomen in het ziekenhuis in Rio de Janeiro en overleed
drie dagen later. Rust in vrede Dona Ivone. Ze schreef enkele grote
samba hits waaronder Acreditar, Sonho Meu, Alguém me Avisou
en Tiê. Samba minnend Brazilië zal haar nooit vergeten..

First and only album by guitarist Jacob Nguni. He was the lead
guitarist on Prince Nico Mbarga’s super hit ‘Sweet Mother’ from
1976. The song sold over 13 million copies throughout the world
and was chosen most popular African song ever in 2004. Find it
using our search-bar. This record on Rogers All Stars is from 1984.
Congratulations was made for the birth of his daughter.
