Its cover is quite worn out, still the sound of this strange album
is reasonably well. The two sides have the same title, there are
spoken parts in between. All together, the two artists I have never
seen together on one elpee, it is an obscurity. Both artists have a
solid name in Ghanaian highlife and I think that is how we can
call the music, solid. Get it and make up your own mind..

De hoes is tamelijk versleten, desondanks klinkt de plaat nog redelijk
goed. De twee kanten hebben dezelfde titel, er staan gesproken stuk-
ken tussendoor. Alles tezamen, ik heb deze twee artiesten ook nog nooit
samen op een album gezien, is dit een rariteit. Beide mannen hebben een
degelijke naam als Ghanese highlife artiesten en dat is ook hoe ik de muziek
zou willen omschrijven, degelijk. Luister zelf en kijk wat je ervan vindt..

One of the greatest reggae singers of the early eighties
was for me Tapper Zukie, or Tappa Zukie. This is a rare
album I recently found at the fair in RAI Amsterdam.
It is from 1979 on Stars and a Tappa Zukie Production.

Ja je ziet het al, dit is een van de betere plaatjes van
reggae held Tappa, of Tapper Zukie. Uit 1979 en een
van zijn betere. ‘Oh Lord’ staat ook op de bekendere
Tapper Roots, verder zijn er geen overeenkomstige
nummers. Een Tappa Zukie Productie..

Here we have another record of pagode, a faster and more modern
samba variety. This is Denny de Lima from São Paulo, he is one I re-
cently discovered, in Brazil they must know him longer, this is a 1987
album. If you love dancing, Denny is of great help, let yourself go..

Hier is nog zo’n plaatje met pagode, een snelle moderne samba variant.
Dit is Denny de Lima uit São Paulo, hij is een recente ontdekking voor mij,
in Brazilië kennen ze hem vast al langer, deze stamt tenslotte uit 1987.

This is the type of record that puts your mind in the wrong direction.
I personally think the frontsleeve is as tasteless as possible, when
listening however that will change completely. 12 vallenatos from
players at the top in the field. From Andrés Landero to Julio de la
Ossa, Manuel Caraballo, Alejo Duran and Luis Enrique Martinez.

verkeerde been zet. Van de afbeelding ben ik persoonlijk niet
heel erg gecharmeerd, van de muziek daarentegen des te meer.

As you have noticed over the years I am not the man to write
deep digging considerations. My ears are the only mean to
determine whether a record is worth listening to. Of course
some knowledge has been collected over the past 40 years.
About this band for instance, I can tell you the driving force
is to be found in the person of master guitarist Robert Martino.
Also on records by other bands he joined, various instrumental
tours de force are to be detected. Remarkable on this record
is a version of Peter Frampton’s ‘Baby I love your way’..

Ik ben er de man niet naar om diepgravende beschouwingen
te schrijven. Mijn oren zijn het enige middel om te bepalen of
een plaat de moeite van het beluisteren waard is. Uiteraard
is er de laatste 40 jaar wel énige kennis opgedaan, zo weet
ik je over deze band te vertellen dat de drijvende kracht er
achter meester gitarist Robert Martino is. Ook op platen
van andere bands waar hij op meespeelt zijn altijd diverse
instrumentale hoogstandjes waarneembaar. Opvallend op
deze plaat is een versie van Peter Frampton’s

We already had some five of their albums but the last posting
is almost five years back. Nana Agyemang and his Opambuo
International Band of Ghana are back today with this record
from the late seventies or early eighties.

Back vocals by the Heptones, recorded in Channel One Studio and
mixed by Ossie Hibbert. The backing Band was the Revolutionaries.

le Prince Youlou Mabiala, Franco’s son in law, is such an artist.
Reason the more to be very happy to have found yet another
of his records. The web does not give me a year of release on

Van sommige artiesten willen we gewoon elk album ooit uitgebracht
zien te vinden. le Prince Youlou Mabiala, Franco’s schoonzoon, is zo’n
artiest. Reden te meer om verheugd te zijn dat we er weer eentje
gevonden hebben. Het web geeft me helaas geen antwoord op de vraag
uit welk jaar deze stamt. Als jij het weet, vertel je het ons dan s.v.p. ook ?

De eerste ontmoeting die ik had met de merengue tipico,
of ook wel ripiao, was via deze man, Francisco Ulloa. Het
was de Globe Style 1985 release ‘Dance Dynamite’. die ik
reeds heb gepost in juni 2008. Tik ‘Ulloa’ in onze zoekbalk
en vind hem direkt. Ondertussen hebben we er na flink
zoeken al meer ontdekt, kijk bij de categorie ripiao..

The first encounter I ever had with merengue tipico or ripiao
was through this man, Francisco Ulloa. it was the album on
Globe Style, ‘Dance Dynamite’ Up Up Tempo merengue
from the Dominican Republic from 1985 which I posted in 2008.

Dit is zo’n band, opererend vanuit Nigeria maar 100 % Ghanees.
Ik heb vanaf de eerste noten, jaren geleden, een groot zwak voor
Chief Sammy Kofi en zijn trawanten. Dat ie dan over yesu moet
zingen in track vier, bemoei ik me dan ook maar niet mee. De titel
spreekt zoals altijd aan, of het nu door Billy Holiday wordt verteld
of door Sammy Kofi, bemoei je lekker met je eigen zaken..

This is such an album, operating from Nigeria but 100 % Ghanaian.
from the first notes I heard by them, years ago, I have a certain
weekness for Chief Sammy Kofi and his buddies. The fact he sings
about yesu in track four is something I must not interfere with. The
title always scores, whenever it is told by Billy Holiday or Sammy
Kofi, mind your own damned business..
