From 1983 we’ve got this awesome collector of Studio One classic
recordings. It concerns volume one on Heartbeat Records. Sweet
reggae/rocksteady tunes you should not want to miss out on.

Zo aan het eind van het jaar maken we altijd wat uitstapjes naar
muziek die je hier niet zo vaak tegenkomt. Even los van de tropische
stijlen. Verandering van smaak doet vaak goed en daarom vandaag iets
van vroeger. Dit is een plaat die ik zeer veel heb gedraaid eind jaren 70
en ook later in de 80er jaren. Ik was in de veronderstelling dat ik Solid
Air van John Martyn al eens geplaatst had maar ik vergis me daar. Die
komt zeker nog eens. Nu deze live registratie, opgenomen in Leeds in
1975 aan de Universiteit en origineel uitgebracht in 1976. Dit is de her-
uitgave uit 1987. Ga er eens goed voor zitten, je zweeft er volledig
op weg, super sfeervolle plaat die je niet wil missen..

Towards the end of the year we often take you in directions you’re
not used to here at the Global Groove. Away from the tropical styles
we normally post, variation is the spice of life they say so today some-
thing completely different. This is an album I played very much at the
end of the seventies and through the eighties as well. I thought I posted
Solid Air by John Martyn already but appearantly I am mistaking. That
one will certainly come one fine day. Today a live registration, recorded
at Leeds University in 1975 and originally released in 1976. This is the
re-release from 1987. Sit down and let it happen to you, the music
floats away, very atmospheric experience you don’t want to miss..

On special request I am posting this album by Adawa King Admiral
Dele Abiodun today. It is from 1980. I never considered marrying
myself, but off course everybody decides for him/her self. I am
always quite impressed by Dele’s guitar skills, the juju rocks
like crazy and also the rhythm section stands out on this record.
In short, for lovers of juju, a contribution worth at least
a couple of spins..

Op speciaal verzoek plaats ik vandaag dit album van Adawa King
Admiral Dele Abiodun uit 1980. Zelf moet ik niet aan een huwelijk
denken maar ieder z’n ding natuurlijk. Ik ben wel altijd zeer onder
de indruk van Dele’s gitaar kwaliteiten, de juju pruttelt heerlijk door
en het slagwerk is ook buitengewoon goed op deze plaat.
Kortom, een aanwinst voor de juju liefhebber..

Vorige week was ik te gast bij Raul en Bas van ‘Hot Mama Hot’,
een vynil programma bij Salto Radio Amsterdam. Altijd weer een
heerlijke ervaring met die jongens samen plaatjes te draaien. een
bonte mix van stijlen passeert de revue. Bas draaide wat oude reggae
klassiekers en ik realiseerde me weer wat een geluk ik heb gehad in de
jaren tachtig mijn collectie te mogen opbouwen. Thuis gekomen ben
ik volledig geïnspireerd m’n oude reggae uit de kast gaan halen. helemaal
in de mood geraakt ontdekte ik dat deze kraker op de Global Groove nog
nooit aan bod was gekomen. Hierbij maak ik dat dus even goed. Luister
naar Big Youth en de klassieker Dreadlocks Dread..

Last week I had the pleasure to appear as guest deejay at the studio with
Raul en Bas of ‘Hot mama Hot’ by Salto Radio Amsterdam. Always a huge
joy and fun experience to play vinyl with them guys. An eclectic mixture of
styles passes by every time. Bas was playing some reggae classic hits and I
realized again how lucky I have been to work on my reggae collection during
the eighties. Once I got home I was totally inspired and pulled some old records
from the cabinet. This is when I found out this classic Big Youth album never
found its way to the Global Groove yet. High time to make up and post it.

We kennen de grote Ramito, jibaro uit Puerto Rico en hadden reeds
vele van zijn albums. Dit keer eentje van zijn broer Luis Morales Ramos.
Hij speelt hier met de koning op Cuatro Maso Rivera en el Conjunto
Cuerdas del Plata op Boricua Records. Leuke verrassing voor de liefhebbers
en minder bekend. Ramito heeft nog een broer, Juan Maria, die zanger was.
We hopen ook van hem eens een plaatje te vinden. Luister snel naar luisito..

We all know Ramito, jibaro from Puerto Rico, and had a bunch of his albums.
This time a record by his brother Luis Morales Ramos. He appears with the king
on cuatro, Maso Rivera and el Conjunto Cuerdas del Plata on Boricua Records.
A nice surprise for lovers of the genre and lesser known. Ramito has another
brother, Juan Maria, who was also a singer. We hope to find one of his records
some day as well. For now listen to Luisito..

This afternoon I got completely in the samba mood. It was because
of the Brazillian program in which Zeca Pagodinho is receiving lots
of guests in his backyard. It is called ‘O Quintal do Zeca’ and once
you are going, there’s no stopping anymore. Martinho da Vila,
Beth Carvalho, Paulinho da Viola, Dudu Nobre, Maria Bethania,
Ze Roberto, it goes on and on, one number nicer than the other.
I just could not resist posting a samba album, meet Jurema,
a woman with a voice, so powerful, listen..

Vanmiddag ben ik volledig in de stemming van de samba geraakt.
Het komt door het programma waarin Zeca Pagodinho allerlei
gasten ontvangt in zijn achtertuin. De sfeer is zo lekker dat je er
niet meer weg komt, Martinho da Vila, Beth Carvalho, Paulinho
da Viola, Dudu Nobre, Maria Bethania, Ze Roberto, het houdt
gewoon niet op, het ene nummer nog fijner dan het andere.
Ik was zo in de mood dat een samba plaatje niet mocht ont-
breken vandaag. Maak kennis met Jurema, een vrouw met
zeer krachtige vokalen, luister zelf..

Hoje fiquei a tarde enteira no samba. Era por causa daquela
programa que chama ‘O Quintal do Zeca’. Zeca Pagodinho recebe
varios musicos e cantores no seu quintal. Que clima e ambiente muito
legal. Na hora que começa assistir, não dar pra parar. Martinho da Vila,
Beth Carvalho, Paulinho da Viola, Dudu Nobre, Maria Bethania, Ze Roberto,
uma musica melhor do que a outra. Depois não podia resistir te dar mais um
pouco de samba. Jurema é uma mulher com voz tão forte, escuta..
