Here’s an old time favourite I used to play very much. It contains
the massive ‘Quitate tu’, a great number that takes you on a trip
for more than 16 minutes. Back in the days, when I deejayed at party’s,
it always came in handy to take a break, toilet, beer at the bar, a little
dance and back behind the turntable, just perfect. Classic Fania
recording, live at the Cheetah, audiance goes crazy, and what a line-up,
Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Larry Harlow, Johnny Pacheco, Roberto
Roena, Bobby Valentin, Santos Colon, Hector Lavoe, Ismael Miranda,
Pete ‘el Conde’ Rodriguez, Adalberto Santiago, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz,
José ‘Cheo’ Feliciano, all big names. Wish I were there, how’bout you Arnaud ?tracks;

When I made this comp of songs of the heart by Congolese artists,
I was looking for a cover and picked this one. It is part of a collage I made
for my Maori friend Tangaroa Tuane. He tattooed my back and I made
him a collage. Always nice to deal without money. Check him at his hyves-
page. http://tangaroatuane.hyves.nl/ . Google on ‘Ta Moko’ and you get an
idea of what he does. About the music, as you can see, a collection of
Congolese tracks, all sung from the heart and about the heart.tracks;

It is hot in the Netherlands. With temperatures rising up to 36º C, or more
this weekend. The whole country is in a hot summer mood, hanging out
on terraces with big glasses of cold beer. Same time we are all very exited
about being in the finals of the worldcup. Orange fever going ’round the land.
The music that fits a hot summer night like no other, a nice piece
of steady soukous. Choc Stars are the band to fulfil that request
for us tonight. Make a slow but groovy dance with Choc Stars.tracks;

There were some requests for Choc Stars, here they come.
“Founded in 1984 by Ben Nyamabo with musicians from Zaiko
and Langa Langa Stars, Choc Stars developed a sound that was
mellow yet passionate. The songs are generally slower than other
bands’ but the arrangements add up to cool seductive soukous.”
( Rough Guide ) Mixed by Ben, Roxy and Carlito.
By the way, can someone give us the year on this one ?tracks;

I am posting this album for the second time today. The previous one
was very bad and had very bad and worn out cover. I found it again in
much better quality and decided to give it another chance. There’s one
other reason to bring this LP, I just love it’s beautiful colour, you know why.
Tomorrow is another big day for me and my fellow Dutchmen,

Only eight country’s left to win the world cup, and who would have
thought only one African country made it to the quarter finals. Ghana
is that country and let’s hope they’ll beat Uruguay tomorrow. I am not against
Uruguay but there are 4 South American country’s left so to restore the balance
it would be a good thing. To help them a bit here’s some Ghanaian highlife for you
to play before the match, If everybody does, it might help the winning spirits to
choose Ghana’s side. You can do the same for our orange team the afternoon.
We’ll have to beat Brazil to stay in the tournament, not an easy job.
About the music; We had a couple of their albums before and untill now I
haven’t heard one bad track. Sweets for Ghana highlife lovers.

What do we have here ? Singer Asi Kapela and Congas-player Zoe
Matondo formed this group in which we find on solo guitar, Lukeau-Jean
Julios, on rhythm guitar Lokassa K., on drums Moya Lotula Ringo,
bass guitar Manana Antoine and second bass and vocals Keletingui
Papus. I saw that only our friend at Ambiance Congo had one track
posted before, now here’s the whole album. The LP gives no year of
release, just guessing, I would say mid-seventy’s. If you know,..tracks;

This afternoon one of my friends reminded me how nice ;Jibaro’ is.
This Puerto Rican style is brought by guys like Ramito, German
Rosario, Odilio Gonzalez and of course ‘Chuito’. They call him ‘el
Decano de los Cantores’. On this Ansonia album from ?, Chuito
performs with his son ‘Chuitin’, they made a couple of records together.
Enjoy Chuito y Chuito con su Conjunto Típico.
