- Friday June 5, 20092 comments on Los Virtuosos – El Brujo, Kubaney 1976
From the Dominican Republic, these are Los Virtuosos with
Cuco Valoy. The name El Brujo would stay with him after this LP.
Inside the cover we find a little booklet with some magical
recipes. They are in Spanish and if you want, they’re included.
A great piece of salsa and merengue, beware of El Brujo !tracks;
1 Corre, Policia, corre
2 La receta de un brujo
3 Do re mi
4 El lio de mi vecino
5 No te descuides

The Guinée Syliphone label is very popular among collectors of
West-African music. On fairs you find these albums for prices
up to € 120,-. Crazy amounts of course, and by paying it, it
only gets worse. Here is one by Bala et ses Balladins and it is
a fantastic one. I don’t know about you but to my humble opinion,
they have reached their objective. This is just beautiful, my
favourite track, ‘Paulette’. What superb vocals, and that hornsection..tracks;
1 Bambo
2 Soufougne
3 Paulette
4 Assa
5 Keme bouremaPosted by Moosat 10:20 PMCategories

On the Nigerian RAS label I recently found this LP.
Smahila’s work was unknown to me untill this album.
It contains a couple of great songs among which, ‘All Stars’,
an ode to Roger’s All Stars, and they deserve it, very nice.
Unfortunately the soundquality is not so good, but still..tracks;
1 Love
2 Help
3 Ils n’est jamais trop tard
4 All StarsPosted by Moosat 8:55 PM - Monday June 1, 2009
With the Nigerian civil war, late sixties, Highlife practically
came to an end in Nigeria’s western region. Tribal discrimination
forced all Igbo musicians to move from Lagos as guitarband highlife
was more and more identified with the east as Igbo-Highlife.
One of the diehards, keeping guitar highlife alive, was Stephen Osita
osadebe who recorded more than 30 albums. Here’s one of them.
( Info from the Rough Guide on Worldmusic )
By the way, this dish starts a little crispy
but mellows out along the way.tracks;

Goodafternoon, summer is really breaking through in the Netherlands.
Temperatures rise to far in the twenty’s ( Celsius ), weather for
a little Nigerian Highlife I’d say. Check this.
I found this LP on a recordfair not so long ago, an item that does
not give us the information we’d like to find. Backsleeve just tells
us titles, a year and nothing else. Nevertheless, the music is
worth a spin, or two.tracks;
1 Izu kamma na nneji
2 Chukwu kere mmadu
3 Chineke wetuo ekwensu
4 Mangala special
5 Ichere chi amaghi onye iwu
6 Ajam ashi-miPosted by Moosat 11:50 AMCategories

Somewhere during the 60’s, an early member of OK Jazz, Jean Serge
Essous and Nino Malapet, also saxplayer, started up a bigband
Congolese style. Les Bantous de la Capitale, with Papa Noel,
Brazzos among others who joined Franco’s Band in Kinshasa later.
Did you know the ‘OK’ in OK Jazz stands for Orchestre Kinois ?,
Kinois means ‘from Kinshasa’. Listen to this 70’s highlight
by Les Bantous de la Capitale !tracks;
1 Tcheko
2 Maboko na moto
3 Nouvelle cite
4 Boumamou sili5 Sakie
6 Tant pis pour les complexes
7 Au no.1 Gea Gisca

Now this, dear visitors, is a special album. When Docteur Nico
came back to Tabu Ley’s Afrisa in 1980, they made this LP.
Track nr. 2, ‘Resurrection’is of the hand of Docteur Nico.
He is considered to be one of the best guitarists ever by many.
I must agree this is a very good record, check it yourself.tracks;
1 Ponce Pilate
2 Resurrection
3 Monument
4 TezuaPosted by Moosat 8:45 AMCategories
