‘Elephant and dwarf’ they call them, Pepe Kalle and his little
stage dancing friend Emoro. This is one of Kishasa’s most
popular dance bands of the 80’s. The album was recorded in
Abidjan and contains fantastic dance material. Empire Bakuba
and Pepe Kalle are here to rock the place.tracks;

Track 12, Slide Mongoose, sounds very much like another well
known song. I first heard it as ‘All for you’ by E.T. Mensah,
being Highlife from Ghana. A couple of albums ago we heard Sami
Kamara from Sierra Leone doing it as ‘All for you tete’.
Mento, Calypso and Highlife are very much alike, and with this
song, Sugar Belly demonstrates that fact very nicely.
Although this album is on ‘Port-O-Jam’, we could say it is an
early ‘Studio One’ recording, Clement Coxone Dodd is the man
behind it all.tracks;

is here oncemore in a complete version, and ‘El Jinete’.

Good evening, it’s been a couple of days, I don’t remember
exactly how many. The largest hiatus untill today, anyway.
Duty called upon me and priority’s had to be taken.Today, I felt like doing another Mexican 10″, one of the
9 EP’s I found on that recordfair in Utrecht, last November.
I am thrilled by Miguel’s sound, how he cries them ‘Ayayay’s’,
is just smashing. I’m a new fan. Unfortunately, the quality
of this old disc is not so well and I had to fade-intro track 5
because it got stuck. Although there’s a short piece missing in
the beginning now, it’s still worth spinning.
Cry out loud with ‘Miguel Aceves Mejia’, Ay Ay Ay !tracks;

Sierra Leone is a country of many languages, part from Creole,
wich is spoken in the capital Freetown and is based on ‘Pidgin
English’, there are also ‘Mende’ and ‘Timini’.
On this album by the Black Diamonds we hear all those languages.
Bandleader Sami Kamara claims that he invented the band’s name
when he thought he tripped over a rock that appeared to be a
Diamond. Great coverpicture, the ladies are singers and drummers
in the group. And how about Sami with his kazoo.tracks;

Hello Groovers around the Globe, I want to wish everybody
a fantastic new year with loads of nice music and lots of luck.
The winter in the Netherlands is doing it’s work properly
this year. It’s freezing a couple of degrees for several days now
and skatelovers are getting ready for the big race already.
When it keeps freezing we might get to the point, they can
ride the ‘Elfstedentocht’ ( eleven cities skate ride ). It only
happens once in twenty years or so and the real skate diehards
are getting all nervous these days.When it’s so cold, I long for tropical temperatures and some Samba
always helps. This is the second LP by this group, Exporta Samba
is their name and I first met them through this album.
10 nice samba songs, uncomplicated and warm sounding, just what
we need on a cold New Years Day like this.tracks;
1 A taxa
2 O esculacho
3 Lembrando a terra boa ( Sao José do Ribamar )
4 Família de vocês

Let’s see what we got in the car. Okay, now everybody hold
something in your hand. Perfect, great coverpicture. The music
of Thomas Mapfumo and his Blacks Unlimited is almost hypnotizing.
It makes you drift away to unknown destinations.
The Lion of Zimbabwe they call him and if you like to know
more about ‘Chimurenga’ and Thomas Mapfumo, go here.tracks;

Martinho da Vila’s sambas are always subtle and pure, every song
has it’s own unique and original sound. Together with the great
sounds of RCA’s 70’s and Martinho’s warm voice, this is

deserves to be ripped and posted once more.tracks;
