- Monday July 7, 20083 comments on Thelma Soares – Thelma canta Nelson Cavaquinho, CBS 1965
About one and a half year ago I first heard ‘Thelma’, I was deeply
impressed by the way she knows to pull back the pace.
It was at Loronix, the great ‘Zecalouro’ introduced her to the world.
When I visited him later he gave me these files.
I already loved the work of Nelson Cavaquinho, so when he told me
about this album, I was thrilled.
These files are ‘Zecalouro’s Rips’. I am taking the liberty to post
them once more, I could not resist when I heard it again.
This LP is SO BEAUTIFUL, Nelson Cavaquinho does about three songs
himself, fantastic stuff.
Thank you so much again Zeca !tracks;

Dear Global Groover,
Until now we have been posting only Tropical Musicstyles at
‘Global Groove’, and ofcourse we shall continue to do so.
The blog’s title, however, indicates that we shall also start
to blend in some genres, looking from a broader perspective.
Black Music, in general, always had my first attention, and from
today I’ll post some other black styles too, like New Orleans Soul.
This album has always been one of my favourites, listen !tracks;

Now here’s one of my alltime Jamaican heroes, “Tappa Zukie”.
His records shook me when I first heard them early 80’s.
And then he came to ‘Paradiso’, Amsterdam, me and my friends went
totally nuts that night.
The forthflowing bass, and Tappa’s sweet voice, I still LOVE this.
Sorry about the quality, some cracking appears.tracks;

From Nigeria here’s another fine piece of Juju, ‘King Sunny Ade’
is back with a smile. How do you like his new dresses ?
On the previous Sunny Ade rip I made the mistake to add skips
manually, I did not make that mistake again.
The first side of the album aswell as the second are like
one big track, I thaught I’d better leave it that way.tracks;

This is truly a fantastic album. Arsenio Rodriguez is back
at Global Groove with volume 2, I don’t know the year on both volumes,
if you do ? Let us know please. The cover picture, clearly made in a

Summer is really pulling through in the Netherlands.
With temperatures around 30 degrees, we try to do everything a bit
slower then normal. And what type of music has that mellow tropical
slowness ? Ofcourse, Bossa Nova, Brazilians know to ajust their pace
like no other. Sergio Mendes comes in with a smooth Bossa LP.
With the participation of Bud Shank, Sebastiao Neto, Chico Batera,
Rosinha de Valença on guitar and with the sweet voice of Wanda de Sah
this is a great spin.tracks;

Here’s a post, especially interesting for it’s collector’s value, more then
for it’s musical value. ‘Los Millonarios’ played instrumental versions of
well known songs. For instance, ‘No me busques’ of ‘Los Corraleros
de Majagual’, or ‘El carretera’ of ‘Guillermo Portabales’. It gives an
impression of all the styles played in Colombian music. And as always,
‘Discos Fuentes’ brings a cover with a pretty girl. Check back cover
for style info. Attention : Track no. 1 jumps one time !tracks;
