Almost ten years ago I posted an album by these guys.
Five heroes in samba, Seu Jair do Cavaquinho, Nelson
Sargento, Elton medeiros, Mauro Duarte and Anescarzinho
do Salgueiro formed Os Cinco Crioulos. This is a record from
1969, sweet early samba songs. I am a huge lover of this sound.

Het is bijna tien jaar geleden dat ik een plaatje van deze jongens
heb gepost. Vijf samba helden in mijn optiek, Seu Jair do Cavaquinho,
Nelson Sargento, Elton medeiros, Mauro Duarte en Anescarzinho
do Salgueiro vormden Os Cinco Crioulos. Dit is en elpee uit 1969,
Heerlijke vroege sambas waar je ogenblikkelijk blij van wordt.

This is Frederick Nathaniel hibbert, better known as Toots
Hibbert from Toots & the Maytals. The elpee we’ve got today
has been released in many forms. Island originally came with
it in 1973. My copy concerns the 1976 re-release. It has the
same tracks as the original one. Some other versions contain
more songs. As the title suggests the reggae is slightly funky,
typical ’73 sound from the caribbean island when a lot of soul
was made . Always loved Funky Kingston, get it and spread it..

Dit is Frederick Nathaniel hibbert, beter bekend als Toots
Hibbert van Toots & the Maytals. De plaat die we vandaag
hebben is in veel verschillende uitgaven verschenen. Island
kwam er eerst mee in 1973. Mijn kopie is een heruitgave uit
1976. Hij bevat dezelfde nummers als de eerste. Sommige
versies hebben meer liedjes. Zoals reeds in de titel gesug-
gereerd bevat de elpee een iets funkiër soort reggae.
Typisch ’73 geluid van het caribbisch eiland waar in die
periode veel soul werd gemaakt. Funky Kingston is een
hit die altijd goed blijft, pak hem en pass hem..

Op Afric’music vonden we deze plaat met Les Tontons.
Enkele bekende namen zoals Domingo Salsero en Master
Mwana Congo maken deel uit van de formatie. Ergens uit
de jaren tachtig, een precies jaar is niet voor handen.
Prima kwaliteit vinyl..

well known musicians here, Domingo Salsero and Master
Mwana Congo for instance. It is from the eighties, no excact
year is available. very good quality record..

Wuta May was one of the many singers who joined Franco Luambo
makiadi and his T.P.O.K. Jazz. This is a solo project, I tried to Google
for more information but did not even find it there. We’ll have to settle
with the music alone in this case. From the album itself I can tell you it
is from 1983. On ASL Polygram and with participation of Syran Mbenza,
Souzy Kasseya, Rigo Star, Yamba Miguel, Domingo Salsero, Bokeur, Priso,
Roger, Ballou Canta, and Francis Perreard, recorded in Studio Laguna
in Paris. Just get it, spread it and listen..

niet op google terug wist te vinden. We moeten het doen met de muziek en de
Informatie die ik op de hoes van de plaat vond. Hij is uit 1983 en op ASL Polygram.

Alex Konadu has a load of followers here at the GG. And
that is totally justified, such nice highlife. Today’s album
is one made in Nigeria although he is from Ghana. If you’re

Alex Konadu’s Band heeft een berg vaste aanhangers hier
op de Global Groove. En dat is volkomen terecht met zulke
lekkere highlife. Dit album uit 1976 is in Nigeria geproduceerd
hoewel Alex uit Ghana komt. Als je hier nieuw bent, kijk dan

Through the years I have bought so many records, sometimes
you just don’t find the time to listen to them all and file them
without hearing them. This is how it occurs, one fine day when
digging in your own collection, you find albums you forgot you
had. I was searching online to make a wishlist of Colombian
albums. When looking into the discography of Lucho Campillo,
who I worship, I found this LP which was already in my collection
without realising. And what other surprise, not only is it with Lucho
Campillo but also with Lucy Gonzalez, I just told you about her this
week in the Antolin post. A double surprise waiting to happen..

Zo door de jaren heb ik zoveel platen gekocht dat het er wel eens
niet van kwam naar alles te luisteren. Werkdruk en groeiende stapels
om je heen. Zo ga je op zeker moment platen in de kast zetten op
genre en alfabet zonder ze gehoord te hebben. Zo ook gebeurt het
dat je later op een mooie dag iets ontdekt in je eigen collectie waarvan
je niet meer wist dat je het had. Vandaag was ik op het internet aan het
zoeken naar werk van Lucho Campillo, ik ben dol op zijn muziek. En wat
schetsts mijn verbazing, deze plaat stond reeds op ons te wachten, niet
alleen met Lucho Campillo maar ook met Lucy González waar ik je juist
deze week over vertelde in de post van Antolin. Heerlijke verrassing..

We know Ramito, Chuito, German Rosario and Odilio Gonzalez
to name a few Jibaro interpreters. Today a female singer in the
same category. La Calandria comes on Ansonia accompanied by
Claudio ferrer y sus Jibaros, with her powerful voice she makes
quite an impression. Brisas Navideñas is a very strong album..

We kenden reeds Ramito, Chuito, German Rosario en odilio
Gonzalez om maar enkele Jibaro vertolkers te noemen. Vandaag
de eerste vrouw in het gezelschap. La Calandria verschijnt op Ansonia
met dit stevige album. Ze gaat vergezeld door Claudio Ferrer en zijn
Jibaros en maakt een zeer krachtige indruk. Niet te versmaden..

Almost two years ago we already had a record from their hand.
It was a 1975 album and according to Youtube this one is too.
On Disque Esperance and recorded in Kenya, this is Mpete Wa
Mpete. The previous one was in Cavacha style, this is called
Kibutshi or Kibushi. Both styles should be Congolese I think,
you tell me..

Bijna twee jaar geleden hadden we er al eentje van hun hand.
Het was een elpee uit 1975 en volgens Youtube is deze dat ook.
Op Disque Esperance en opgenomen in Kenya is dit Mpete Wa
Mpete. De vorige was in Cavacha stijl en dit wordt Kibutshi of
Kibushi genoemd. Beide stijlen moeten volgens mij Congolees
zijn, vertel jij het mij..

Have you ever fallen in love with a voice without knowing who it
belongs to ? That is what I have with the lady that sings on this here
record. When in 1993 the cd Cumbia Cumbia 2 was released I got
completely captured by track two. It is called ‘Soledad’ and was
played by ‘Combo Los Galleros’. Today I think I discovered who
was singing. I strongly suspect Lucy Gonzalez who does vocals
on this elpee. I’ll add Soledad so you can shine your light on it
and compare. What a great voice she has, I’m sold..

Ben je weleens verliefd geworden op een stem waarvan
je niet zeker weet wie het is ? Dat heb ik met de zangeres
op deze plaat. Toen in 1993 de cd Cumbia Cumbia 2 uitkwam
was ik op slag tot over m’n oren van track twee. Het heet ‘Soledad’
en werd vertolkt door ‘Combo Los galleros’. Vandaag denk ik haar
gevonden te hebben in de persoon van Lucy Gonzalez die de lead
vokalen op deze schijf voor haar rekening neemt. Ik voeg Soledad
er aan toe, dan kun jij er ook eens naar luisteren ter vergelijk.
Wat een heerlijke stem heeft dat mens..ik ben om..

This early samba record is one from 1962. Walter Wanderley’s
organ rocks like no other’s. His records sound fresh as if recorded
only yesterday. Instrumentals are mostly not my favorites but for
this stuff I make an exception. Just like the albums of Ed Lincoln
some of his tracks are still in demand by today’s deejays. Very
cool bossa and samba from the old days..

Vandaag een vroege samba disc uit 1962. Walter Wanderley’s
orgeltje rockt nog steeds als geen ander. Zijn platen klinken nog
steeds fris alsof ze gisteren zijn opgenomen. Meestal en over het
algemeen ben ik niet zo van de instrumentalen maar voor dit spul
maak ik een uitzondering. net als sommige nummers van Ed Lincoln
zijn ook bepaalde tracks van Walter Wanderley zeer in trek bij
huidige deejays. Lekkere bossa samba sound uit de oude doos..
