Good morning groovers, what have we got cooking today ?
This lp by Morgan Blanco is a Mexican release. When
listening closely, you hear the fade-outs are done a little
sloppy, it seems OCM label raked together a bunch of
Morgan Blanco’s cumbias on this lp. It does not appear
to be a career album. The cumbias presented however
are of Colombian quality, renditions of songs written by
Ovidio Martinez, Rosendo Martinez, Rafael Mejia,
Nicolás Ortiz, Carlos Román and Morgan
Blanco himself. Worth at least
a couple of spins..
Enjoy.tracks;

Today’s contribution concerns an album by Guillermo de Jesus Buitrago.
He turned into a historic figure in Colombian ‘parranda’, living from 1920
to 1949 his music is still being played by many. When I first discovered
his work, I guess it must have been in 2003 or 4, it hit me instantly. It
was after I wrote to Discos Fuentes to ask them where to find their cd’s
somewhere here in the Netherlands. They wrote back to me that there
was just one little record shop in Amsterdam that had bought a bunch
in the past. I hurried to the city and found quite some Fuentes stuff there.
It was on the same visit that I found this cd. I didn’t know it yet and on the
way home in my car when I played it first time, I remember it like yesterday.
It struck me like lightning, I wept tears of happiness that day. Since then
I have been searching for his albums and finally found two. Sanjay is the man
that brought them from Cartagena, thank you so much buddy. Discos Fuentes
later sent me the magazine they made about Guillermo Buitrago, you may
find pictures in the file. Big shame Buitrago died at 29 years of age,
he would have made far more fantastic records if he had lived longer.
If you understand Spanish take a look at the video I found about
the last guitar of this historic musician. By the way, if you
think the music sounds a bit dusty, no wonder,
it’s from before 1949..tracks;

Albums like this are hard to find over here
in the Netherlands ? We are so lucky to have the
guys in our network that bring home these rare lp’s from
Colombia. Rufo Garrido and José Pianeta Pitalua are the
guys that lead this Orquesta. It remains a mystery why
Colombians keep using these B-models at the sleeves
of wonderful albums like this one.
I found some footage to help you get an other
impression, watch & listen..tracks;

Not long ago we had an lp by Alfredo Gutierrez on which
Lucho Argain ( Lucho Perez ) was performing. Another group
that Lucho used to sing and compose for is this one. La Sonora
del Caribe was founded in 1951 by Chavistad Cesar Pompeyo.
They had a string of records through the sixties and seventies,
the one we have here is probably from 1962 and contains 12
songs of which the brothers Cesar and Alfredo Pompeyo
said; “We never sounded like this before, the songs on
this lp can set any of our fans on fire on any moment
of the day..” Well, let’s see what happens,
get it & spread it as usual..tracks;

Lucho Campillo is the man behind this group called
Combo Los Marinos. Singers are Juan de la Cruz Piña,
Diochy, Jairo Mercado, Policarpo Calle and off course
Lucho Campillo himself. If any one can tell us from
what year this album comes, please do. I think Lucho’s
songs have something different somehow, they sound
fresh, original and delicious. Forget about the girl on
the sleeve and focus on the music, let’s listen
and maybe do a little dancing too..tracks;

Good morning groovers, I wasn’t able to see downloadnumbers exactly
as they are since the new page has come active. My engineers have
made it possible now and I must say it brought me some pleasant
surprises. For example, I did not expect Ases del Ritmo in our top 10,
same thing counts for Global Sampler vol. 43. It is on number 14, not
bad at all. The numbers give me an awesome insight on what’s most
popular here at the GG. I always figured that the albums that gained
the most comments were also the most downloaded ones but that
isn’t the case at all. This information is very valuable to me, it
helps me determine what to post.So lovers of Colombian music,
I am happy to see so many downloads in this section.
Enjoy this fine collector which contains
a number of great songs.tracks;

What can I say ? You know I’m a lover of this type of
music. I could keep annoying you with superlatives
concerning this album but I really think it’s best if you
listen first and make up your own mind about it. Can

about two or three myself, how many do you know ?

There was a time I would never have believed an album with
such a cheap sleeve, naked girl and all, could be a good one.
Nowadays I know better. Au contraire, after collecting this
type of music some years I started loving them. The record
we have here is just what we like to find, thick carton sleeve,
heavy vinyl inside and luckily in good shape. It is from 1976
and contains a load of brilliant tracks, these cumbias are
sweet without exeption, just the way we love them, well
produced and compiled with passion. Get & Spread..tracks;

In the series ‘3 Reyes del Acordeon’ we have volume two
to start with. At least two other volumes await their turn.
Indeed we are dealing with three Kings in this perspective.
Alejandro Durán, Luis E. Martinez and Andrés Landero
are three of my idols all together, whenever I find an album
by one of them, it really makes my day. Take this series,
I found three of them so far but I promise to do what I can
to discover the others as well. I would very much appreciate
you leaving me a short message, after all that is all I have
to go on. It appears that the people who download african
music leave more comments then the people that download
latin music. Is it a language matter? You people from South
America do understand some English don’t you? Wether you
do or don’t, give me some feedback so I know Colombian
music is also appreciated. One way or the other,
I am a huge fan of these guys, hope U like it 2..tracks;
