From the very East, tonight we move over to the very West.
It was not very original of me to put together a collector of singles.
Take a look at this one, Decca West Africa came with this
collection of six ten-inch singles in 1963. Imagine that in
one year, the record will be 50 years old. Snatch this
swell compilation of Ghanaian and Nigerian
highlife and juju from the early 60’s.

Oh yes my musical friends, Chief Sammy Kofi is back at the GG
with a truly splendid album. The more I hear from him, the more I like
it. On Nigeria’s ‘Rogers All Stars’ comes another lp by this Ghanaian
highlife group that thrilled loads of visitors already, don’t miss.
Being a fanatic heretic I am very glad with title number three
Awurade yesu wich means, life’s much
better without jesus !

It’s getting harder to find them all the time. I can hardly remember
the last one, it was in july 2010. One way or another, their lp’s
always find a happy listening ear on this guy, this one makes
no exception. Found it shortly and am lucky to share,
..jus’ a bit crispy,

Some requests came in for the music of this fine artist. Prince
Nico Mbarga and his Rocafil Jazz appeared here with over 10
albums. I shall re-up them in the near future, most of the links
are still dead. This is the ‘Best of Nico Mbarga’ which, among
others, contains his biggest worldwide hit, ‘Sweet Mother’. I
never really understood why it was such a huge succes,
it has probably everything to do with the fact Prince
Nico worships his parents and family life. On this
‘best of’ album all titles point in the same direction.
Maybe not my favourite Nico Mbarga tracks but
a fair representative of his oeuvre.

I wonder how many albums he made, this is number 21 or
so in my collection alone. Allmost every recordhunt ends
with another one or two of his great lp’s. I am very fond
of Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey’s rhythmsection.
Listen to those subtle beats, zooming bass
and sweet vocal harmony, sure to find
more of them in the future.

We had a ‘Syncro System’ lp on the Brittish ‘Island’ label from ’83
and we had an album on ‘Sunny Alade Records’ from 1983 with
the title ‘Syncro Series’. This is the original movement from a couple
of years before them. The bassplayer on a-side really stands out and
catches a lot of attention. Quite different tracks than on the other two
albums, different titles as well. Not being the first to post this one,
it was simply impossible to resist, so if you missed it earlier..

The GG has quite a few friends in the Barranquilla area of Northern
Colombia, the’re crazy for Nigerian highlife in that outpack, understandable.
A request was received for this particular lp and it just so happened
it was waiting upfront of my Nigerian record pile. I hope you can
use it and create some phat pico champeta sound with this.

Good afternoon groovers, welcome home at the global. Many of
you are waiting for a certain upload or another. It is very hard to
find the energy to re-upload all my files. I guess the hangover of
Mediafire’s action to delete all our 1197 files is kicking in a little
late. Maybe I didn’t allow it at the time being. Other topics on my
prioritylist are fighting for supremacy right now and for the moment
re-ups’ll have to wait a bit. I reckon you understand and give me a
break. A fresh new post like today’s shall occur as often as usual.
This is the first time they appear at the GG, Tumba Africa from

This week I received a request for some juju, fuji or apala.
It’s been some time but we had her before at the GG.
This is a type of music I enjoy once in a while but know
absolutely nothing about. The rhythms are overwhelming
and I think Queen Salawa Abeni has a huge voice,
why don’t you give it a try ?

For this fine saturday I’ve got something a whole bunch of
you go crazy about. It is another lp by one of those Ghanaian
groups who recorded in Nigeria. Opambuo International Band
of Ghana brings us this typical sound. Ghanaian highlife with
a Nigerian sauce over it. Being a heretic I regret one title but I
just love the sound of it so it got through anyway. The album
is on Rogers All Stars and from 1982, guaranteed topnotch
production, it’s rare, it sounds beautiful, better take it quick.

I am sorry I didn’t re-up anything during the past few days,
just too damned busy to find the time, today I
did some 20 highlife albums though,
