We know him as Lucho Bermúdez, his full name was Luis Eduardo
Bermúdez Acosta. He was a Colombian musician, composer, arranger,
director and performer. Lucho Bermúdez was perhaps the the main
person responsible for having made cumbia and porro become stan-
dards of Colombian music internationally since the 1940’s. Matilde
Diaz sang in most of his compositions and was Lucho’s second wife.
This album contains some of his biggest successes, I added a couple
of others as bonus tracks, enjoy listening ..

We kennen hem als Lucho Bermúdez, zijn volledige naam was Luis
Eduardo Bermúdez Acosta. Hij was een Colombiaanse muzikant,
componist, arranger, dirigent en performer. Lucho Bermúdez was
waarschijnlijk de man die er verantwoordelijk voor was dat cumbia
en porro verwerden tot de meest representatieve sound uit Colom-
bia in de jaren 40. Matilde Diaz zong op zijn beroemdste composities
en was zijn tweede vrouw. Deze plaat bevat een aantal van zijn groot-
ste successen, ik heb er nog een paar als bonus tracks aan toe gevoegd.

Op het Colombiaanse ‘De Oro’ label vinden we deze plaat met Antolin
y su Combo. La Tabaquera, de titelsong, is waaraan zangeres Lucy
Gonzalez haar bijnaam onttrok. Omdat Lucy blind was werd ze
ookwel ‘La Cieguita’ genoemd. Haar geweldige stem maakt deze
elpee ook weer tot een van mijn lievelings albums. We treffen
cumbia, paseo, paseaíto, fandango, porro paseo, merengue
en cumbión aan op deze heerlijke plaat ..

On the Colombian ‘De oro’ label we find this record with Antolin y su
Combo. La Tabaquera, its title song, is from where singer Lucy Gonza-
lez got her nick name. Being blind, Lucy was also called ‘La Cieguita’.
Her wonderful voice made this album again to become one of my
favourites. We find cumbia, paseo, paseaíto, fandango, porro paseo,
merengue and cumbión on this delightful album ..

Wonderful vallenato from an artist we have seen here on
one earlier occasion. It was on this collector posted four
years ago. Opening song on this album was also selected
by the compilers of the CD ‘The original Sound of Cumbia’,
Soundway Records 2011. Not much is to be found on Elias.
We are happy to bring this record today, a worthy contri-
bution to our vallenato collection. Listen and enjoy ..

Heerlijke vallenato plaat van een artiest die we hier slechts
één maal eerder zagen passeren. Het was op deze verzame-
laar welke we vier jaar geleden hadden. De openings track
van deze elpee werd ook door de samenstellers van de CD
‘The original Sound of Cumbia’, Soundway Records 2011,
geselecteerd. Online is weinig te vinden over Elias. We zijn
dan ook blij vandaag deze plaat te kunnen bijdragen aan

Zo door de jaren zijn er al heel wat Colombiaanse accordeonisten
de revue gepasseerd. Edgar Peñaloza is hier vandaag voor het eerst.
Op dit album uit 1978 komt hij goed voor de dag. Edgar is een man
met krachtige stem, zijn vallenatos hebben stevige ritmes en voor
de verandering staat er eens geen meid in bikini op de hoes maar
een fatsoenlijke foto van de artiest zelf. Op het INS, Industria Na-
cional del Sonido Ltda., label welke we nog niet zoveel zagen.
Kortom, een plaat om mee te pakken, down, deel en luister ..

Over the past years we have seen quite some Colombian Acor-
deonists pass by here at the GG. Edgar Peñaloza appears first
time today. On this 1978 album he makes a solid entry. Edgar
is a man with strong vocal abilities, his vallenatos come with
firm rhythm. The sleeve of the record displays a picture of the
artist and no pretty girl in bikini for a change. On the INS, In-
dustria Nacional del Sonido Ltda., label which we didn’t see
a lot here so far. An elpee to check out I’d say,
get it, spread it and give it a few spins ..

Three days ago we had us this album with Alfonso Piña.
It is a quite unknown elpee, the two more famous tracks
by his hand can be found on this porro collector. It contains
a bunch of other fine songs as well. Bigger names like Pedro
laza, los Corraleros de Majagual and Pacho Galan for instance
also find a place on this sunny cd. A Discos Fuentes 1994 disc.

Drie dagen geleden hadden we een album met Alfonso Piña
en zijn orkest. Het betrof een tamelijk onbekende plaat. De
twee bekende nummers van zijn hand vind je op deze porro
verzamelaar. Hij bevat nog een rijtje goede nummers. Grotere
namen zoals Pedro laza, los Corraleros de Majagual en Pacho
Galan bijvoorbeeld vind je hier ook op. Zonnige 1994 Fuentes cd.

Je kent ongetwijfeld de het gezegde, je moet het ijzer smeden
als het heet is. In het geval van de platenverzamelaar, koop de
plaat als de gelegenheid zich voordoet en je de middelen hebt.
Zo heb ik veel platen gekocht na ze snel te beluisteren en soms
belanden ze al in de kast zonder ooit echt goed gehoord te heb-
ben. Het leuke is dat je jaren later een album ontdekt in je eigen
collectie. Dit is er zo een. Ik kan over Alfonso Piña niet zoveel vin-
den op het web. Één ding weet ik wel, dit is Tropical de Colombia
van hoge kwaliteit. Bailables con Piña swingt van begin tot eind ..

In Dutch we have this saying, you must forge the iron when it is
hot. It means as much as take the opportunity when it occurs.
I don’t know the proper English way to express this feeling. In
case of the record collector, buy the record when it appears.
This is how it happens that you buy an album after a quick listen
and sometimes it ends up on the shelf without really hearing it.
The fun thing about it is that after years you may discover an
elpee in your own collection you don’t know. This is such a
record. I can’t seem to find much about Alfonso Piña but
one thing I do know. This is Tropical de Colombia of decent
quality. Bailables con Piña rocks from beginning to end ..

De laatste jaren is het meestal vallenato en soms cumbia als
ik iets uit Colombia post. Misschien wel weer eens tijd om wat
meer te brengen met het kenmerk Tropical de Colombia zoals
porro en guaracha. Aniceto Molina is een accordeonist die in
alle stijlen thuis is. Deze plaat uit ik weet niet welk jaar mist
hier en daar wat aan dynamiek en lijdt tevens enigszins onder
achtergrond geruis. Ondanks dat een feestje ..

The past few years it is mostly vallenato and sometimes some
cumbia if I post Colombian music. Maybe time to bring an album
in the category Tropical de Colombia like porro and guaracha.
Aniceto Molina is an acordeonist who is well up in the subject.
This here record from I don’t know what year misses some
dynamics in certain parts and also suffers from a little back-
ground noise. Nevertheless it is a small party ..

Ik kreeg een schrijven van Juanito waarop ik de film over Francisco
‘Pacho’ Rada weer eens ben gaan kijken. Prachtig maar ook triest
stukje historie. Alfredo Gutierrez spreekt er over Los Caporales
del Magdalena, een van de bands waarin hij ooit speelde. Fiesta
en Corraleja is een bekend nummer van ze. Deze plaat opent ermee.
Je hoort verschillende stijlen de revue passeren waaronder Porro,
Tamborera, Paseo, Pasaje en Cumbia. Je hoort Alfredo in track
#4 en #8. Fijne oude liedjes ..

I recieved writing from Juanito, it triggered me to watch that movie
about Francisco ‘Pacho’ Rada once again. Beautiful but also sad piece
of history. Alfredo Gutierrez speaks in the movie about Los Caporales
del Magdalena, one of the bands he used to play in. Fiesta en Corraleja
is a famous song by them, this album opens with it. You hear various
styles among which Porro, Tamborera, Paseo, Pasaje and Cumbia.
You hear Alfredo singing in track #4 and #8.
