Een van de groten in vallenato was Luis Enrique Martinez.
Zijn platen zijn zeer lastig te vinden en daarom is het extra
mooi dat we er een hebben vandaag. Luis Enrique was de
winnaar van het prestigieuze Festval Vallenato in 1973. Op
deze elpee vinden we tien van de numers uit dat jaar.
Het vinyl is dunner dan ik ooit heb gezien en dat is jammer
voor een plaat als deze, reden is natuurlijk de oliecrisis uit
die tijd. Dun of dik, dit is een heerlijk stukje vallenato.

One of the greats in vallenato was Luis Enrique Martinez.
His records are quite hard to find so we’re extra lucky to
have one today. Luis Enrique was the winner of the pres-
tigious Festival Vallenato in 1973 and on this here album
we find ten of his songs from that year. The vinyl is thinner
than I ever saw which is a shame for a record like this.
It was caused by the oilcrisis from that time of course.
Thin or thick, this record contains a
delightful piece of vallenato.

Ik kreeg diverse verzoekjes van José en hier is de eerste.
Hij was op zoek naar deze plaat van Miguel Duran en
toevallig heb ik hem. Zelf zoek ik ook nog een lp van hem,
de plaat waar het nummer India Matea opstaat, als iemand
die heeft houd ik me aanbevolen. Voor nu luisteren we naar
La Manta Colorá uit 1978 op Victoria, plezier daarbij..

Ik received various requests by José and am happy to bring
the first one today. He was searching for this album by the
great Miguel Duran and it just so happens I’ve got it. I am
on the look out for one of his albums myself, the one that
contains the song India Matea, if anyone has it please

Discos Fuentes heeft in de loop der jaren heel wat verzamel albums
geproduceerd en niet altijd even origineel in de keuze van nummers.
Ook nu komen er weer wat langs die we al eerder gezien hebben. De
pret zal dit evenwel niet drukken, voor wie het niet wist zal het niet
opvallen. ‘Baranoa’ is er eentje om in te lijsten, een collectie dikke
dansplaatjes die je feestje zeker tot een succes maken..

Discos Fuentes made quite a lot of collectors over the years and
not always very original in choice of tracks. This time we also find
some songs we’ve seen before but still I’m quite sure that will not
spoil the fun. For those who didn’t know it shall not be obvious.

Als je van onvervalste vallenato houdt is het werk van Cesar Castro
niet te missen. De plaat heet ‘de authentieke en pure vallenato’ en
dat is dan ook wat je hier krijgt. Drie van deze nummers stonden
ook al op de enige andere lp van zijn hand die hier in augustus van
het vorige jaar verscheen, de rest is nieuw op de GG. Stevig spul
met Cesar’s krachtige stem, niet te versmaden dus..

If you are into vallenato it is wise not to miss out on the works of
Cesar Castro. This record is called ‘the authentic and pure vallenato’
and that is exactly what you get here. Three of these tracks were on
the one other album by his hand we had at the GG in august last year,
the rest appears here first time. Decent material with Cesar’s
powerful voice, get it now..

Goeiemorgen, het is hoog tijd voor wat vallenato en daaraan
denkend kwam ik bijna direkt op Juan Polo Valencia. Met zijn
rijpe ruwe stem is hij een van de artiesten die ik het liefst op
de draaitafel heb. Zijn muziek is wellicht het meest geschikt
voor de wat meer doorgewinterde luisteraar maar oefening
baart kunst zogezegd dus luister snel zou ik zeggen, lekkerrr.

Good morning, it is about time for some more vallenato and
thinking so I almost immediately thought of Juan Polo Valencia.
With his ripe and raw voice he is one of the artists I prefer on my
turning table. His music is maybe most suitable for the more
experienced listener but there is only one way to get there
so go listening to him rapidly, delightful material..

Gelukkig hebben wij onze trouwe vriend Sanjay die met zekere
regelmaat die kant opgaat om deze op te sporen. Hier hebben we
zo’n elpeetje. Het bevat diverse stijlen binnen de salsa, porro-salsa,
bomba, guaracha, mongolo, guaguancó, paseaíto en boogaloo.

Michi Sarmiento’s records are hard to come by, even in Colombia.
We are lucky to have our loyal blog-friend Sanjay who travels there
frequently to hunt down these treasures. The album we have here
today contains a variety of salsa styles, porro-salsa, bomba, guaracha,

Een van de voornaamste vertolkers van de liedjes van Rafael
Escalona was zonder twijfel Bovea met zijn Vallenatos. Dit is
volume drie van zo’n serie. Hij is uit 1988 en op het Tropical
label. De band wordt begeleid door niemand anders dan
Colacho Mendoza op de accordeon, heerlijk spul dat je
niet zou willen missen, en jij al helemaal niet Pim.

One of the main interpreters of the songs of Rafael Escalona
was without any doubt Bovea and his Vallenatos. This is volume
three of such a series. It is from 1988 and on the Tropical label.
The group is accompanied by the great Colacho Mendoza and
his accordeon, very delightful stuff you don’t want to miss.

De plaat van vandaag is voor mensen als Pim en Glinka
maar vooral voor Rik. De eerste omdat hij expliciet heeft
gevraagd om een wijf in bikini op de voorkant. De tweede
omdat deze nodig eens zijn horizon zou moeten verbreden
en de derde omdat hij een liefhebber is van variatie en naar
allerlei soorten muziek luistert met veel plezier, net als ikzelf.
Lucho Campillo en Policarpo Calle hebben niet alleen de meest
prachtige namen, hun groep ‘el Conde y su Corte’ komt voor de
dag met dit heerlijke stukje Colombiaanse Porro en dergelijke.
Alles klopt aan deze plaat, lekkere sound, lekkere stemmen,
en ook nog een lekkere meid op de hoes, typisch global
groove topmateriaal dus, kortom luister maar snel..

Today’s record is specially for people like Pim and Glinka
but mostly for Rik. The first because he asked explicitly for one
with a girl in bikini at the frontsleeve. The second because it
is hightime to broaden his horizon and the third because he is
a lover of variety and listens to all kinds of music with pleasure
just like I do. Lucho Campillo and Policarpo Calle don’t just have
beautiful names, their group ‘el Conde y su Corte’ appears here
today with this delightful piece of Colombian porro and such.
Everything about this record is right, great sound, great voices
and a pretty girl on the frontsleeve to complete the picture.

Om te beginnen, het spijt me zo voor degenen die slechts één
soort muziek kunnen waarderen. Variatie is alles in het leven
en verandering is wat ons op gang houdt, het is onvermijdelijk.

To start with, I’m so sorry for those who fancy one kind of music
only, for variety is the spice of life and change is everything
to keep us alive. It is inevitable.

Ik heb deze band altijd zeer serieus genomen, zoveel geweldige
artiesten speelden erin. Lisandro meza, Calixto Ochoa, Tony Zuñiga,
Eliseo Herrera, César Castro om er maar een paar te noemen. En dan
komt er zo’n nummer langs met Donald Duck stemmetjes, da’s even
schakelen maar toch, tja, de rest is gewoon weer fantastisch. Het blijft
een wereldband dus zullen we ze die grap maar vergeven. Luister zelf
maar, los Corraleros de majagual kunnen toch niet stuk..

I always took this band very serious, so many great artists played in it.
Lisandro meza, Calixto Ochoa, Tony Zuñiga, Eliseo Herrera, César Castro,
just to name a few. And then they appear with such a strange song with
Donald Duck voices in it. That was a moment of doubt, but then, what to
say, the rest of the album is just as fantastic as before so I guess we’ll
excuse them for making a joke. They remain a group of world class.
