Write his name in our search-bar and find the one album
by his hand we already had. Today’s lp is one in various styles,
from cumbia to cumbión, guaracha, pasaje and such. It bursts
of percussional beats on pots and pans, no just joking but the
tambó is very hot on this album and one song is happier than
the other. I can’t seem to get enough of this sound, how
’bout you ? If anyone should know a year of release,
please do not hesitate and leave us a message.

Always a thrill to find records on the Machuca label, and when
it concerns work by Manuel Caraballo it’s extra nice. Today these
two lucky events fall together nicely with this 1975 album. Lovers
of vallenato will understand my enthousiasm and download this
record straight away. Twelve songs covering styles like merengue
( the Colombian one ), son, paseo, parranda, pasebol & paseaíto.tracks;

It is always hard to choose what’s next in line, some 500
Colombian albums waiting to get posted. Calixto Ochoa,
who is one of the greatest stars only appeared here with
two albums of which he had to share one with Lisandro
Meza. About time for a little more Calixto that much is
clear. Today’s lp is from 1973 and contains 10 of his
hits from that era. Never any info on the other artists
that participate, shame but we’re getting used to it.
Enjoy listening to the great Calixto Ochoa..tracks;

Okay okay, more Colombian music, I know..I just couldn’t wait
digitising this one. From 1974 and on the ‘Carnaval’ label, this
is a straight killer. It may sound a little aged, true, but these 10
songs are absolutely marvelous. Five singers with astonishing
voices who bring their vallenatos with so much fire and energy,
it will stir up your summer party guaranteed. It does mine I tell
ya…and my new idol, ..Heliodoro Martinez, absolutely.
Do not wait and get it straight away..tracks;

In 1986 Globestyle released the album ‘Fiesta Vallenata’, part of
the series ‘Accordions that shook the world’. it contains a few
songs that captured me from the very start. Lo mas sabroso
by Jimmy Pedrozo & Franklin Ariza struck me like lightning.
I had never heard such music before and it was more or less
the beginning of my search for more. The lp is available here.Other songs that hit me instantly were the other two Jimmy
pedrozo songs and ‘India Matea’ by Miguel Duran. I’m still on
the look out to find the album containing that song. Yesterday
my buddy Sanjay payed me a visit and a big surprise came
along with him. After 30 years finally I found volume 2 of Jimmy
Pedrozo & Franklin Ariza. In fact, Sanjay is the man that helped
me searching and he found it in Bogota. What a special moment
when listening to it first time. The song ‘Lo mas sabroso’ must be
on volume 1 so the search continues but for now we are so lucky
to be able to listen to “Paso la vida pensando” by Jimmy Pedrozo
con Franklin Ariza y su Conjunto, hope U like..tracks;

Colombian salsa would not have been the same without the
music of the Latin Brothers. Still with Joe Arroyo this 1976
album is one that stands out for the sound we all
love. The trombones add rough edges, sweet
background vocals and the swell producing by
Mario Rincon Parra make this album a true
listening pleasure, check it out yourself..tracks;
01 – Te encontre
02 – Dudando
03 – Dos caminos
04 – Antioqueñita
05 – Canto por no llorar
06 – Ya no hay amor

Another red cover, it is pure coincidence. Lisandro Meza
y su Conjunto are here. From the very beginning of this
album we can hear how much fun these guys were having.
Lisandro was part of the famous Corraleros de Majagual
since 1962 when he was 23 years of age. Born in 1939 in
Corozal, Lisandro recorded some 110 albums of which we
have this one today. It is from 1974 and contains golpe,
vallenato, Paseo, puya, rumbita and merengue.
I am a fan since I first heard his work. Don’t
hesitate, get it and spread it now..tracks;

02 – El dios cantor
03 – Donde esta ruben
04 – La flor de villanueva

He was crowned King of Vallenato in 1975, ‘el Pequeno Gigante’,
the little giant, born july 20, 1936 in Chochó (Sucre). After participating
8 times, starting from 1968, he won the prestigious festival in 1975.
Once part of the famous group Los Corraleros de Majagual, he made
some 32 lp’s. Part from hits like ‘Adiós Maria’, ‘la Coquetona’ and
‘los Miles Trabajos’ his greatest work was ‘la Colegiala’. The album
we have today is his coronation album. What I do not understand
is the backsleeve says 1974, probably a printing error ’cause the
label is correct. Anyway, enjoy these twelve songs despite
the hum it carries. Get it & spread it..tracks;
01 – Que traiga que no lleve
02 – Guarare en barranquilla
03 – Desamparada
04 – Me olvido
05 – Linda sucreñita
06 – Por ti luchare
07 – Edilma rosa
08 – Te machastes
09 – Maria del carmen
10 – Adiós maria
11 – Cariñito
12 – La margentinaPosted by Moosat 8:46 AM - Thursday June 25, 2015
Completely captured by vallenato I selected this slice of
Colombian vinyl for you today. Los Hermanos Lopez made
a bunch of records with singer Jorge Oñate. Their strong
instrumental work with Jorge’s strong voice combine per-
fectly. This is their first one here at the GG but certainly not
their last. Jorge Oñate also worked with Nicolas ‘Colacho’
Mendoza and with Los Hermanos Zuleta. Both of whom
more to follow. For now, enjoy los Hermanos Lopez..tracks;
