Another red cover, it is pure coincidence. Lisandro Meza
y su Conjunto are here. From the very beginning of this
album we can hear how much fun these guys were having.
Lisandro was part of the famous Corraleros de Majagual
since 1962 when he was 23 years of age. Born in 1939 in
Corozal, Lisandro recorded some 110 albums of which we
have this one today. It is from 1974 and contains golpe,
vallenato, Paseo, puya, rumbita and merengue.
I am a fan since I first heard his work. Don’t
hesitate, get it and spread it now..tracks;
01 – La estaca
02 – El dios cantor
03 – Donde esta ruben
04 – La flor de villanueva
05 – La contienda
06 – A emilianito

He was crowned King of Vallenato in 1975, ‘el Pequeno Gigante’,
the little giant, born july 20, 1936 in Chochó (Sucre). After participating
8 times, starting from 1968, he won the prestigious festival in 1975.
Once part of the famous group Los Corraleros de Majagual, he made
some 32 lp’s. Part from hits like ‘Adiós Maria’, ‘la Coquetona’ and
‘los Miles Trabajos’ his greatest work was ‘la Colegiala’. The album
we have today is his coronation album. What I do not understand
is the backsleeve says 1974, probably a printing error ’cause the
label is correct. Anyway, enjoy these twelve songs despite
the hum it carries. Get it & spread it..tracks;

Completely captured by vallenato I selected this slice of
Colombian vinyl for you today. Los Hermanos Lopez made
a bunch of records with singer Jorge Oñate. Their strong
instrumental work with Jorge’s strong voice combine per-
fectly. This is their first one here at the GG but certainly not
their last. Jorge Oñate also worked with Nicolas ‘Colacho’
Mendoza and with Los Hermanos Zuleta. Both of whom
more to follow. For now, enjoy los Hermanos Lopez..tracks;
01 – El cantor de fonseca

Rafael Calixto Escalona martinez was a Colombian composer
whose music is well known and still being played by many.
His Vallenatos belong to the most prominent. He was also a
close friend of Gabriel Garcia Marquez who once stated his
masterpiece novel ‘100 years of solitude’ was in fact a 350
page vallenato. Escalona himself never played an instrument
nor sang his own compositions. One of the main interpreters
of his music was Julio César Bovea Fandiño, better known as
Bovea y sus Vallenatos. The lp we have today concerns another
singer. Alberto Fernandez with the acordeon of Gustavo
Gutierrez y su Conjunto. 12 great songs for lovers of
the genre. Get it & spread it..tracks;

02 – La golondrina
03 – El general dangon

It was in october of 2014 that I posted volume two in this series.
It resulted in quite some happy reactions and I promised to bring
the other volumes as well. Now today it is volume 5’s turn. I have
volume three waiting and am still on the look out for #1 and #4.
On side two of the album we see two other names. Track 7 is sung
by Arturo Cabarces but I think with the acordeon of Andrés Landero
and then track 12 is sung by Adriano Salas but I think with the
acordeon of Luis Enrique Martinez. If I’m wrong please leave
us a note. Meanwhile enjoy listening..tracks;

One of the Colombian bands that caught my attention from
the first time I heard them is el Combo Vacaná of Peregoyo.
Their sound is different from what we’re used to hear from
that region. Listen to the guitar
based latin sound of Peregoyo.This is what All Music Guide says about them;
One of the first bands to combine the folk rhythms o
Colombia’s Buenaventura region and the cumbia of Cuba,
Peregoyo Y Su Combo Vacana were known for their unique
electric guitar-dominated sound. Reviewing a reissue of their
early-70s album, Tropicalismo, RootsWorld claimed that
Peregoyo Y Su Combo Vacana “never lets up as it hurls
groove after incessant groove at you, sax and trumpet
blazing from a path cut by fat, no bloated bass licks,
pervasive percussion and searing
solo and group vocals”.tracks;
01 – La guitarra desbarata
02 – Facunda
03 – Palito cae
04 – Cariñito
05 – Pa’ la loma
