    I just got back from a two day recordsearch and came home
    with a pile of music from Congo, Nigeria, Ghana, Haiti, Jamaica,
    Mali, Guinée, Cabo Verde, Tchad, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Cuba,
    Brazil and Colombia. Wow, now I look at it myself, not a bad score.
    The journey back took me almost seven hours today while in fact
    it’s a 5 hour trip. Some big accident along the way. Tomorrow I’ll
    tell you more, for now start listening to this happy music.
    Discos Fuentes brings this collector with all kind of cumbia-like
    tropical dance music, fantastic stuff you don’t want to miss.
    An oldie but goodie so to say, do you know where I went ?
    Demain Franck, demain plus.

    tracks;

    Buenisimas, front, cd size

    Sonolux from Medellin Colombia released this collector in 1982.
    It contains some Colombian highlites from the 70’s and early 80’s.
    The cover makes you expect a quite commercial album and it does have
    one or two of those tracks. On the other hand we find a few great
    songs. Anibal Velasques always makes a difference and Alfredo Linares’
    Tiahuanaco swings fantastic, but my favourite is absolutely track #3,
    by Los Montuneros.

    tracks;

    1 Los Tremendos de Colombia – Ese amor
    2 Darigil y su Combo – Cumbia Calentana
    3 Los Montuneros – Francisco del otro lado
    4 Los Alegres de San Basilio – La espina
    5 Don Medardo y sus Players – La ladrona
    6 Grupo Chambacu – Alhucema con Romero
    7 Grupo Escala – Porque eme sigues
    8 Anibal Velasques – Un poquito de cariño
    9 Alfredo Linares – Tiahuanaco
    10 Tamara – La limosna

    Buitrago, front

    Part from some tracks on compilations, I do not use to post any
    material from CD. This one by Guillermo Buitrago is an absolute
    exeption. If I would not use it, it was impossible to post any
    Buitrago. His LP’s, as far as they exist at all, are not to find.
    I repost this album for several reasons. It contains songs for
    december and new year, well our new year at the Global Groove
    starts tomorrow. Part from that, this music is so delightful, I
    truely don’t understand it didn’t get any response. I am crazy
    about these songs. When I discovered this compilation, I wept
    tears of happiness. Maybe it’s just me being foolish, but give
    this one another chance and I’m sure you will not regret.

    tracks;

    1 La vispera de año novo
    2 Ron de Vinola
    3 Dame tu mujer José
    4 Grito vagabundo
    5 El huerfanito
    6 Compae Heliodoro
    7 El amor de Claudia
    8 La carta
    9 La araña picua
    10 La piña madura
    11 La hija de mi comadre
    12 Que criterio
    13 Las mujeres no me quieren
    14 Cienaguera
    15 El testamento
    16 El brujo de Arjona

    Ain’t much music in the world that makes me happy like cumbia.
    This is a selection of Colombian cumbias, originally released
    on Discos Fuentes. This one was made in cooperation with
    Mexican label ECO, Mexico is a cumbia loving country.
    Some time ago, our collegue Yoyo from ‘listentoyourears’
    launched an album with practically the same cover, but
    different title and partly different songs. So get this
    LP, play it out loud, and forget about winter !

    P.S. I found out I forgot to rename track 11, it must be
    track 06 in fact, sorry for the mistake.

    tracks;

    1 Enrique Bofante – Soledad
    2 C. Pompeyo – Gaita Colombiana
    3 Joaquin Betín – Cumbia sampuesana
    4 Luis Pérez – La morena encarnacion
    5 Climaco Sarmiento – Cumbia sabrosa
    6 Pasqual Rovira – Cumbia del monte
    7 José Cáceres – Suena la timba
    8 César Castro – Cumbia sambranera

    Pedro Laza, front

    Today I thought I’d post us some Colombian music. ‘Navidad Negra’
    which I addad as a bonustrack is a good example of music they
    play in Colombia with Christmas. Pedro Laza is the man who wrote
    lots of such songs. On ‘El güiro’ vocals by Daniel Santos, on ‘La
    cosecha de mujeres’ vocals by José Maria Peñaranda.
    On ‘Cumbia en el monte’ vocals by Pascual Rovira, on ‘Navidad Negra’
    vocals by Tito Cortes. On ‘La calle 13’ and ‘La negra caliente’
    vocals by Crescencio Gamacho.
    As for me, I can play this type of music all year through, such
    happy sound should be for always.

    tracks;

    1 El tachuelo
    2 La rabadilla
    3 El San Anterano
    4 La champeta
    5 Playa blanca
    6 Aurora
    7 Mosaico
    8 Puya Bayunquera
    9 Tu recuerdo
    10 Las mañanitas

    – Bonustracks;

    11 Navidad negra
    12 La negra caliente
    13 Cumbia en el monte
    14 El güiro
    15 La boquillera
    16 La cosecha de mujeres
    17 La calle 13

    This is one of the greatest Merengue singers and he comes
    out on one of the greatest labels. Discos Fuentes de Medellin

    Very hard to find some good background information.
    Merengue like it’s meant to be.

    This, probably late 60’s, LP by Alfredo Gutierrez was a lucky find
    on my last recordhunt. I am a big fan of Alfredo who is one of the
    Colombian heroes that made his fame in the legendary ‘Corraleros
    de Majagual’. One of the country’s most important Cumbia/Vallenato
    bands of the 60’s. Alfredo Gutierrez is one of the great instrumental
    virtuosos of Vallenato. Enjoy this music with his pumping bass,
    percussion that sounds like they use pots and pans, and ofcourse
    the great Alfredo Gutierrez on acordeon and vocals.

    tracks;

    1 La cañaguatera
    2 La choza
    3 Lupita
    4 La hija del millonario
    5 Mis vacaciones
    6 La misma pendejá
    7 Pobre Valencia
    8 Te juro
    9 Ojos verdes
    10 Papel quemado
    11 Tu partida
    12 Landys
