A solid cooperation between Gesner Henry, Coupé Cloué
and Jules Similien, Toto Nécessité. Toto wrote 5 of the

Yesterday I saw a movie that played in Paris, when thinking of
the trips I made to that marvelous city, it seems almost a lifetime
ago. For almost a year we’re stuck with this crazy situation
in which we can’t travell. Dreaming of Paris I found this album
with the wonderful Shleu-Shleu. Download it and dream along
with us. Les Shleu-Shleu have proven their quality on several
earlier occasions. This record will certainly take you to Paris
in a whiff, get it, spread it and float away when listening ..

Gisteren zag ik een film die zich in Parijs afspeelde, als ik aan de
trips naar die geweldige stad denk lijkt het wel een eeuwigheid ge-
leden. Al bijna een jaar zitten we vast in deze krankzinnige toe-
stand waarin we niet op reis kunnen. Dromend van Parijs vond
ik deze plaat met Les Shleu-Shleu. Slurp ‘m naar binnen en droom
met me mee. Les Shleu-Shleu hebben al eerder bewezen dat ze
in staat zijn je mee te nemen. Voor je ‘t weet waan je je in Parijs.

Vier van de vijf nummers zijn geschreven door de grote Robert
Martino. Bij de eerste noten van zijn gitaar op dit album klinkt
het heel even alsof je naar Pink Floyd luistert. Een toevallige
speling van de geest want even later wordt heerlijk duidelijk
hoe deze band zich heeft ontwikkeld. Na de wat drukkere
compas van de eerste twee elpees zijn de nummers drie
en vier meer en meer in balans. Geproduceerd door Fred
Paul en met de cover-art van José Exposito, die we kennen
van de prachtige hoezen op het New Yorkse SAR label, is
dit een plaat die je niet zou willen missen ..

From 1980 we’ve got this record with Scorpio Universel today.
Four out of five songs have been written by the great Robert
Martino. Listening to the first notes it is almost like you are
listening to Pink Floyd. A coincidental moment because an
instant later it becomes clear how this band has developed.
After the two, quite busy, first albums, the next elpees are
clearly more balanced. Produced by Fred Paul and with the
cover-art of José Exposito, whom we know of the beautiful
sleeves of the New York based SAR label, this is a record

Good morning groovers, let’s dive a bit deeper in the history
of Haïtian compas. Many of you have enjoyed the various posts
we had so far and many records are waiting to yet come your way.
What do we have today ?
It is said that compas was invented by Nemours Jn.Baptiste.
He was a Haïtian Saxophonist, writer and band leader. The music
he made was also called Compas Direct. During Baptiste’s early
career he played in ‘Conjunto International’ with collegue Webert Sicot.
For some time later the two had a kind of rivalry over who
came first with certain styles. Funny detail; the competition
between them resulted in a soccer match between the artists
and their bands which ended in a 1-1 tie. Today we’ve got the
album Ti Carole from 1966. Extra nice are the songs
that include the use of accordeon, enjoy listening ..

Goeiemorgen groevers, Laten we vandaag nog ‘ns wat dieper
duiken in de Haïtiaanse compas. Vele van jullie genieten van
de platen die we tot dusver hebben gezien en veel albums
wachten nog om hun weg naar je te vinden.
Wat hebben we hier ?
Er wordt gezegd dat compas ooit werd uitgevonden door
Nemours Jn.Baptiste. Hij was een Haïtiaans saxofonist, schrij-
ver en band leider. De muziek die hij bracht werd ook Compas
Direct genoemd. Tijdens de vroege jaren van zijn carrière speelde
Nemours in ‘Conjunto International’ met collega Webert Sicot. De
twee werden later een soort rivalen die twistten over wie nu het
eerst met bepaalde stijlen was gekomen. Grappig detail; zij
knokten het op een dag uit door met hun beider bands een
potje voetbal te spelen, deze eindigde in een 1-1 gelijkspel.
Vandaag hebben we het album ‘Ti Carole’ uit 1966, extra
fijn zijn de nummers waarin de accordeon wordt gebruikt,
luister weer met plezier ..

Lalanne. Today apparently the only album with his own combo.
It is not entirely clear from what year the elpee is. One thing
I do know, it is a very enjoyable record. Listen ..

We saw them on a few earlier occasions, this group of
topnotch musicians called Les Vikings d’Haïti. This 1973
album contains strictly beauty’s. Mainly instrumentals
but very enjoyable. Composers Fritzner Delmont, Levy
Paul, Wilner Felix and Weiner Destin made these 10
great tracks on Mini Records in sweet atmosphere ..
