Yesterday I got so pleasantly surprised. I watched that
wonderful animated picture that flellow blogger ‘Coleção
de Sons’ posted recently. Chico & Rita is a movie that plays
in Cuba in the 1940’s. It contains passages dealing about
the great Chano Pozo. Now it is not a habbit of mine to post
music from CD, but in this case I must make an exception.
Check out this superb album on ‘Tumbao’. You can find loads
of Cuban classics on that label, highly recommended. Listen.

On ‘Sacodis’ we have this 1980 album. Aboudou Lassissi
presents Charanga para todos, charanga for everybody.
On this volume 1 we hear ‘Monguito’ as lead vocalist,
backed by Adalberto Santiago, José Alberto and Ronnie
Baro. On piano – Alfredito Valdez, bass – Joe Santiago,
trumpet – Hector Zarzuela, sax – Mario Ravira, trombone –
Esteve Torrez, drum – Manny Ramos, conga bongo –
Marcelino Valdez and bass guitar – Edy Guagua.
Strange thing is that album sleeve doesn’t say anything
about lead vocals. I found a site on the web that claims
it is just Monguito. However if I am not so sure, don’t we
hear Laba Sosseh in track 3, what do you think ?

One of my favourite latin voices belongs to Celina Gonzalez.
Together with her husband Reutilio they form this historic duo.
On Suaritos we have this delightful album, it contains some
of their all time greatest songs. La casa de Yagua for instance,
or Cita en el Platanal, are just two of the 14 magnificent tracks.

If you are a Celia Cruz fan, this LP with the legendary
Sonora Matancera is one not to miss in your collection.
With her champion voice she is the queen in practically
all latin styles. A handfull is displayed on this album. Afro,
Son Montuno, Bolero-bon-bon, Rumba, Ritmo Charanga,
Milonga, Bembe, Merengue and Ritmo Guason, some of
which are straight from the village. Enjoy

This is a re-post. I did this album at the very beginning of the GG
experience. Papaito and Roberto Torres are both great singers in
Son-Cubano. On this LP one presents the other but also participates,
Roberto Torres can be heard in the backing vocal section. This is the
type of Latin music I can’t seem to get around, sweet son…azucar..
