nooit vegeten zou mogen worden..You’re so right Ted, everybody forgot to react to that hot
merengue from the Dominicans. Especially this fast ripiao
style is one to cherish to my opinion. This is Bartolo Alvarado
who they call the blind one, el Cieguito de Nagua. Incredible
way of playing the acordeon don’t you think ? Wonderful
music which should not be forgotten..titels ;
01 – Guardame el concon
02 – Mi amante y mi novia
03 – El refran

05 – Acotejame
06 – La matica
07 – El hijo bueno

Gisteren drie accordeon helden uit Colombia gezien, vandaag
vier uit de Dominicaanse Republiek. Dit is merengue ripiao, een
type merengue zo snel dat je oren ervan klapperen. We hadden
ooit een plaatje van francisco Ulloa in deze stijl, zoek hem met
behulp van onze zoekbalk links. we hebben hier King de la Rosa,
ook wel ‘Manos Bionicas’, bionische handen genoemd. Bartolo
Alvarado of ‘el Ciego de Nagua’, Maria Díaz of ‘la Dama de Nagua’
en de broer van de eerste, nl. ‘el Maestro’, Arsenio de la Rosa.

left hand side. On this lp we have King de la Rosa or ‘Manos Bionicas’,
bionic hands. Bartolo Alvarado or ‘el Ciego de Nagua’, Maria Díaz or
‘la Dama de Nagua’ and the brother of the first, ‘el Maestro’, Arsenio

I saw some old merengue being downloaded this morning
and decided to post some. This is Trio Reynoso with Tatico,
they bring the authentic merengue from the Dominicans as
the title already suggests. Trio Reynoso made their merengue
using the acordeon and having a certain weekness for the
instrument, my choice was easily made. Give it a spin
and share it like always, enjoy..tracks;

I found this album by Duo Los Ahijados accidentally, it came in
the wrong cover when I bought it. The sleeve you see here was
taken from the web. So the brothers Cuco and Martin Valoy are
back at the Groove with a hidden treasure, it was an unexpected
find when going through my latin albums this afternoon. Being
from the Dominican Republic themselves, they were famous for
their renditions of Cuban songs but went in multiple directions
as we can hear on this lp. Love their bright guitarsound and
vocal harmony. We’ve got five other
albums, you know the drill..tracks;

Merengue is the music of the Dominican Republic and Angel
Viloria was one of it’s originators. “Angel Viloria and his magic
accordeon are just the spark that starts the fire burning. The
inspired saxophone solos of Ramon Garcia and the expert
handling of the difficult ‘tambora’ typical Dominican drum by
Luis Quintero, are the combination that brought to life the famous
merengues ‘A lo escuro’ and ‘Consigueme eso’. these two famous
merengues as played by Angel Viloria y su Conjunto Típico Cibaeño,
helped give birth to a whole new panorama of music.”
