Okukuseku International Band of Ghana led by Chief Sammy Kofi
had this recording made at Rogers All Stars Sound Studio, Okolo
Street, Onitsha, Lagos, Nigeria. I think it’s a tremendous album,
with that sparkling mixed sound of RAS but with Ghanaian highlife
and it’s typical flow. It is a bit crackly but still, don’t miss.tracks;

It is confusing sometimes. On the label of this LP, the
tracknames are different than on the backsleeve. At first I
thought they had sold me a mis-fit, you know, wrong LP
inside. But the album inside is the right one, some lyrics
contain words I see on the label. Like b-side , track 1, label
and sound say ‘Akwasi akwasi’ but cover says ‘Pam no o
tware no o’. Titles do compare more or less in some cases.
I suppose Ghanaians can explain all this confusion. One
way or the other, Kyeremateng Stars ( spelled wrong on sleeve
aswel ), bring us some sweet highlife oncemore, listen.tracks on sleeve;
1 Obreguo ye ya
2 Owuo ama yen mpanin asa
3 Odo bra
4 Pam no o tware no o
5 M’afu na eso kwa
6 Dee wo benya biara fa no saa ara
7 Otamfo na adentracks on label;

The leader of this highlife group is Kwabena Ampiah, he
is also the lead vocalist. Guitar highlife with additional
horn arrangements to make it complete. Nice atmosphere.
Mysterious and hypnotising sleeve, appropriate themes,
listen to the Exciting Talkatives.tracks;

This is part one of a three record series of Highlife
from the old days. It appeared in the seventies but
contains songs from the fifties. Bands like the Stargazers
or Onyina”s Guitar Band aswell as E.T. Mensah’s Tempos
were very popular in Ghana in them days. My favourite
is track #6, Masan Makwo, don’t understand a word they
sing but just love that sound, hope you do too.tracks;

I had this post ready for placing last night but I could not
get into Mediafire to uplaod it. There might have been some
maintenance going on. Anyway, today I did get through. This
Ghanaian highlife band was lead by Kwasi Boateng who also
took care of arrangements. Songs were written by Kyei Mensah,
also leadsinger and accompanied by K.Addai and Afriyie.
Ghanaian highlife at it’s best, don’t miss.tracks;

Certainly I’m not the first blogger to post this here LP.
Every self respecting African music collector should have this
in their archive and I’m sure most of you already do. It’s a classic
and therefore it is justified to appear oncemore I guess. If you didn’t
have it yet, take your chance today.
With Eric Agyeman, Thomas Frimpong,
sublime highlife from Ghana.

Speaking about digging up old stuff, this rare piece of
Ghana highlife was brought to me by a friend. He travels
the world to find these treasures. First record I heard by
King Onyina, born Kwabena Onyina. His father used to have
a guitar and when he died and left it to Kwabena at the age of 13,
young King Onyina decided to make a living out of the instrument.
I have read somewhere on the web King Onyina passed away some 5
months ago. Let’s pay him respect in playing his music, listen.
