de beurs in Utrecht volgende maand zal brengen ..Like yesterday’s album, its follower up of today is also not free
from little traces of damage. This type of Nigerian oldies is hardly
available in perfect condition. We may consider ourselves already
lucky finding them at all. What do we have here, it is the second
volume in the Weppa Wanno Sound series of which at least seven
exist. We’ll keep looking for more volumes, who knows what
the next record fair in Utrecht will bring us ..tracks ;

In the afenmai section we find another record with
the Weppa Wanno Sound from Etsakor. It has a little
disturbance after about a minute and is quite scratchy
overall but I still didn’t want to withhold it from you.
Deep Nigerian highlife, no name of an artist on the cover.
We see two different images, can you tell us who we see ?In de afenmai sectie vinden we vandaag nog zo’n plaat
onthouden. Diepe Nigeriaanse highlife. We vinden helaas
wie het weet mag het zeggen ..tracks ;

“Ladies and gentlemen, Prince Nico Mbarga and Rocafil Jazz
present to you ‘Good Father'”, na het onnavolgbare succes van
Down, deel en luister ..“Ladies and gentlemen, Prince Nico Mbarga and Rocafil Jazz
present to you ‘Good Father'”, after the huge succes of his 1976
album ‘Sweet Mother’, Prince Nico Mbarga honoured his entire
family. Records like Family Movement, Lucky marriage, Sweet
Family and this Good Father are clearly made to try and equal
commercial succes of Sweet Mother. Sweet Mother sold over
13.000.000 copies worldwide. We had some sixteen of his
albums so far, high time for number seventeen,
get it, spread it and listen ..It seems many albums are from 1981, some are and
some are re-issues in 1981 on Rogers All Stars.

Until now, we saw the White eagles International, the Indomitable
White Eagles and the White Eagles of Sabagreia. I found that the
players on the two last albums were totally different. From this
one we don’t know any names. It seems however there are at
least two different groups from Nigeria using the name White
Eagles. If anyone can shine a light on this, would be greatly
appreciated. For now, let’s just listen to another album
of the White Eagles of Sabagreia ..Tot nu toe zagen we platen van the White eagles International,
the Indomitable White Eagles en the White Eagles of Sabagreia. De
laatste twee hiervan toonden compleet vershillende line-ups.

One of Nigeria’s most succesful highlife bands was ‘The Oriental
Brothers’. It was founded by the brothers, Kabaka, Dan Satch and
Warrior Opara early seventies. Later the brothers all took their own
course and split up in Dr. Sir Warrior & his Oriental Brothers, Godwin
Kabaka Opara’s Oriental Brothers, Oriental Brothers International
Band, led by F. Dan Satch Opara and many other variations. Today
we have an album with Kabaka International Guitar Band led by
Godwin Kabaka Opara. You may find a bunch of related albums
linked below this article. When opening the Oriental Brothers
Face Book page I found the image of the green Oriental Brothers
record which they took from my copy here at the Global groove.
Funny, and it makes one think the brothers don’t own copies of
their own records. (see sleeve damage). One way or the other,
I still think this was one of the greatest Nigerian groups all time ..Één van Nigeria’s meest succesvolle highlife bands was de Oriental
Brothers.
baka Opara’s Oriental Brothers, Oriental Brothers International Band,
led by F. Dan Satch Opara en vele andere variaties. Vandaag hebben
we een album met Kabaka International Guitar Band led by Godwin
Kabaka Opara.

Some more requests for juju music from Michael, this is the first
of his wishes of which I just happen to have a few. Chief Commander
Ebenezer Obey made a load of records. We had a bunch already and
still many to follow. ‘My Vision’ is from 1985 and appears on the Obey
label. If you take a look at the backsleeve, just click on it, see how many
musicians helped making this record. 20 men bands are common in juju.
Not sure who the men on the pictures are, if you know ..Ik kreeg nog wat verzoekjes voor meer juju van Michael, dit is de eerste
van enkele plaatjes die ik toevallig heb. Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey
ken. 20 man’s groepen zijn geen uitzondering in juju. Ik weet niet precies
