If I understood correctly, Ramito’s music is very popular
with Christmas in Puerto Rico. On this album, Ramito is once
more accompanied by Conjunto, Toñito Ferrer y sus Jibaros Modernos.
The rhythms have beautiful names like, Aguinaldo, Mapayé
and Ritmo Boricua among others, enjoy them.tracks;

Some time ago I got confused finding two ‘Sambistas’ with the name
Noël Rosa. Yesterday I got confused over two African artists both
using the name ‘Papa Noël’. Isn’t that strange ? Now, Noël means
Christmas and since it’s december it seems appropriate to post some
music with that theme. This is Chuito, a Jibaro from Puerto Rico.
With the Orchestra of Johnny el Bravo. ( I love that name, makes me
think of the Johnny Bravo Cartoons ) Executive Producer; Jerry Masucci
for Fania Records, I don’t know about you but this is the stuff
I listen to with Christmas.tracks;

The authentic mountain music of Puerto Rico is called ‘jíbaro’.

One of the last artists that kept the Jibara alive was Ramito.

in a Paris recordstore, great catch. Goza con el Gran Ramito !track;

When I was running through the records in that Paris
recordstore, I found this jewel by Raphy Leavitt. Listening
to it, another customer wanted it too. Shame, but hey, I gave
him this URL and promised to post it this week. So here it is.
It’s got that great salsa brava sound of the early seventies.
An LP that makes the hair stand up on your arms.In the meantime our new year at the Global Groove is starting.
I would love to give you all a big piece of birthday cake, but
instead we’ll go into the new year posting music as we use to.

Flor Morales Ramos was his name, they called him ‘Ramito’.
Ramito was a patriot like no one and wrote lots of songs about
his beloved Puerto Rico. He was the most productive musician,
I just found a dicography with over 150 titles, incredible.
This is an album I found in a recordstore in Paris, I just
got back from a quick trip to France. One of our loyal visitors
invited me for his birthday party and I met some very nice people
there, sorry I left in a rush everybody, that happens.
I could not resist going to that great Paris recordshop,
and want to thank the chief there, let’s call him ‘F’.
Thanks ‘F’ for helping me find this fantastic Jibara
and lots of other fine music.To be continued.

La Sonora Matancera is a group that played with almost every great latin
singer from Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominicans. This fine LP is with
Puerto Rican hero ‘Daniel Santos’. He was the most delightful singer,
loved by many. It is from 1950 and brings a few cracks but for
it’s age, some 59 years, I think it sounds swell. Enjoy Daniel Santos.tracks;
