Zo door de jaren zijn er al heel wat Colombiaanse accordeonisten
de revue gepasseerd. Edgar Peñaloza is hier vandaag voor het eerst.
Op dit album uit 1978 komt hij goed voor de dag. Edgar is een man
met krachtige stem, zijn vallenatos hebben stevige ritmes en voor
de verandering staat er eens geen meid in bikini op de hoes maar
een fatsoenlijke foto van de artiest zelf. Op het INS, Industria Na-
cional del Sonido Ltda., label welke we nog niet zoveel zagen.
Kortom, een plaat om mee te pakken, down, deel en luister ..

Over the past years we have seen quite some Colombian Acor-
deonists pass by here at the GG. Edgar Peñaloza appears first
time today. On this 1978 album he makes a solid entry. Edgar
is a man with strong vocal abilities, his vallenatos come with
firm rhythm. The sleeve of the record displays a picture of the
artist and no pretty girl in bikini for a change. On the INS, In-
dustria Nacional del Sonido Ltda., label which we didn’t see
a lot here so far. An elpee to check out I’d say,
get it, spread it and give it a few spins ..

Een genre dat hier enigszins tekort wordt gedaan is zonder
twijfel salsa. Als er al iets langs komt dan moet het ook goed
zijn. Salsa uit Panama is sowieso al bijzonder, het is gewoon
veel moeilijker te vinden dan anderen. Probeer dit eens. Toty
Pino y los Excelentes met deze plaat uit 1983. Ondanks twee
bolero’s (ben ik minder van gecharmeerd) een tamelijk
fijne plaat, luister zelf ..

A musical style somehow neglected here is without any doubt
salsa. If any passes by, it’s got to be the good stuff. Salsa from
Panama is quite rare anyhow, we just don’t find it as much as
other salsa. Try this for a change. Toty Pino y los Excelentes
with this album from 1983. Despite the two boleros (I’m not
so fond of) quite a nice record, make up your own mind ..

Hoogste tijd om eens wat achterstanden in te halen wat betreft de
platen van Cuco Valoy. We hadden er reeds enkele van hem met de
‘Virtuosos’ en ook met zijn broer Martin als ‘Los Ahijados’. Maar eens
beginnen met deze ‘Lo Mejor de..’ het beste van Cuco Valoy deel één.
Onder andere de heerlijke vokale harmonieën in de achtergrond maken
deze salsa en merengue tot luister genot. ‘El Brujo’ was zijn bijnaam en
tevens één van z’n betere nummers, maar ook ‘Juliana’, Luister zelf ..

About time to equalize the score concerning the records of Cuco Valoy.
We already had some with his ‘Virtuosos’ and also some with his brother
Martin as ‘Los Ahijados’. Let’s start with this ‘Los mejor de..’ the Best of
Cuco Valoy part one. One of the things that grant this album its listening
pleasure is the beauty of the vocal hamonies. ‘El Brujo’ was Cuco’s nick-

Today’s post concerns a special request by Juan. Orquesta Revé
is one of my favourites as well. It just so happens I recently found
a couple of their records among which this one. Mi Salsa Tiene
Sandunga means so much as my salsa is spicy. Elio Revé Matos
is the father of the Changüi style, his salsa is truly different
from all others. The group is still active today but is being
led by Elio’s son Elito. Saw them in Amsterdam a few years
ago at the Roots Festival, blue skies, outdoor, very nice..

Vandaag een post op speciaal verzoek door Juan. Orquesta Revé
is ook altijd één van mijn favorieten geweest. Toevallig heb ik kort
geleden een aantal van hun platen gevonden waaronder deze.

Bij wijze van uitzondering krijg je vandaag een copy van een ceedee.
Hij is uit 1982 en staat vol met Colombiaanse hits. In der tijd heb ik
Discos Fuentes eens gemaild om te vragen of ik hier in de buurt hun
releases zou kunnen vinden. Ik kreeg een vriendelijk mailtje terug met
de boodschap dat een klein zaakje nabij de Amsterdamse Dappermarkt
eens een flinke bestelling had gedaan. Ik vond daar een mooie rij Fuentes
cd’s. Geweldig leuk natuurlijk, bijna alles meegenomen. Dit is er één van.

Im making an exception today by posting the music from a ceedee.
It is from 1982 and contains a bunch of Colombian hits. Quite some
years ago I sent an email to Discos Fuentes to ask them if there would
be an adress somewhere nearby here where I could find their releases.
They kindly responded to tell me there was a tiny record store close
to the Amsterdam Dapper Market who once bought some of their
releases. I found a nice pile of cd’s there and bought the lot. very
nice off course. This is one of them, enjoy listening again..

Toen zeker vier van de bandleden van Ray Barretto’s groep hem
in 1972 tegelijk verlieten om met enkele andere muzikanten
Típica 73 te beginnen, waren er veel sceptici. De band werd echter
razend populair en scoorde met hum experimentele stijl enorm
goed. Ze maakten zo’n negen albums tot ze in 1982 uit elkaar
vielen. Met Adalberto Santiago. Dit is hun tweede
plaat, het beluisteren zeer waard..

When four of the members of the original band of Ray Barretto
left him simultaneously to start Tipica 73 in 1972, many people
were sceptical about it. The group however was enormously success-
ful with its experimental style and produced some nine records until
they split up in 1982. With Adalberto Santiago. This is their
second album, worth at least a couple of spins.
