Posting ‘Buscando America’, by Ruben Blades, I just discovered
that another album with him has disappeared from the site.
I am sure I have posted this record long time ago. It has vanished
mysteriously somehow. before we became independent this
occurred more often. Please let us know if there are others you
know of so I can re-post. A fine piece of latin music with the great
Willie Colon and his trombone, originally just on Fania ..

Toen ik zojuist ‘Buscando America’ met Ruben Blades postte, ont-
dekte ik de mysterieuze verdwijning van een ander album met hem.
Ik weet heel zeker dat ik Siembra met Willie Colon en Ruben Blades
lang geleden heb gepost. Voordat de GG onafhankelijk werd gebeurde
dit vaker. Mocht je dit van andere platen weten, laat het dan s.v.p.
weten, dan kan ik deze herposten. een lekkere plaat met de grote
Willie Colon en zijn trombone, origineel slechts op Fania ..

Today we find this album with Estiby Colon and his Orquesta.
Estiby, who is from Puerto Rico, wrote all songs, he is also
singer and conductor of the group. The elpee was recorded
in 1978. Guaguancó a la salsa brava, listen.

We vinden vandaag deze plaat met Estiby Colon en zijn Orquesta.
Estiby, die uit Puerto Rico komt, schreef alle nummers, zingt ze,
en is tevens de dirigent van de groep. De elpee is opgenomen

It was about time to post this Latin Brothers album. We had
a couple later ones with Joe Arroyo doing the lead vocals. This
is their first with the great Piper ‘Pimienta’ Diaz. Salsa brava
like we like’m best with its firm trombone led sound. Coor-
dinated by Julio E. Estrada or Fruko. One little skipjump
in the first song, alas ..

Het was eens tijd dat deze Latin Brothers ons GG podium bereikte.
We hadden er al enkele met Joe Arroyo als lead-vokalist. Dit is hun
eerste uit 1974 met de grote Piper ‘Pimienta” Diaz. Salsa brava zoals
we die het liefst horen met die lekkere dikke trombone sound.

Ergens in 2008 heb ik eens een mailtje gestuurd naar Discos
Fuentes. Ik wilde weten of ze ooit muziek hadden geleverd
aan een winkel in mijn omgeving. Ik kreeg een heel sympathieke
mail terug. Ze bedankte me vriendelijk voor m’n mooie woorden
en vertelde dat ze ooit een stapel cd’s hadden geleverd aan
een zaakje aan het Dapperplein in Amsterdam. Het betrof
Chirino Music van Johnny Chirino, zijn zaak bestaat helaas
niet meer. Ik heb daar vervolgens zowat de complete
verzameling Discos Fuentes cd’s gekocht, een leuke stapel.
Als je dit leest Johnny, vriendelijke groeten van Moos.
Zo ontdekte ik een zwikkie artiesten waarvan ik nog niet
eerder gehoord had. Één van die cd’s is deze met Francisco
Zumaqué. Stevige Colombiaanse salsa uit ik weet niet welk
jaar, de cd is uit 1992 maar de muziek klinkt
ouder. Luister zelf eens ..

Somewhere in, I think in 2008, I wrote an email to Discos Fuentes.
I wanted to know if they had ever sold music to a shop in my
neighbourhood. They wrote a very friendly mail back to me
telling me they had once sold a bunch of cd’s to a shop at the
Amsterdam Dapperplein. It concerned Chirino Music owned by
Johnny Chirino, his place doesn’t exist anymore unfortunately.
I remember I bought almost every Discos Fuentes cd he had, it
was a nice pile. If you read this Johnny, kind regards my friend.
This way I discovered some spectacular artists never heard of
before. This cd with Francisco Zumaqué is one of those I found
there that day. Firm Colombian salsa from I don’t know what
year. The cd is from 1992 but the music sounds
older. Listen to it yourself ..

Vandaag, beste groovers, is het weer eens tijd voor muziek
uit Cuba. Zoveel prachtige klanken van dat zonnige eiland.
Één band waar ik al jaren gek van ben is toch wel deze. Elio
Revé Matos en zijn Orquesta Revé speelden een soort salsa
stijl die ze Changüi noemen. Op deze plaat uit 1990 staan wel
wat nummers die ook op andere van hun albums voorkomen
maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. Alles wat ik van ze tegen-
kom post ik blind. Heerlijke sound .. Luister met plezier ..

Today, dear groovers, it is time for some music from Cuba
again. We found so much wonderful stuff from that sunny
island. One group I cherish in particular is without any
doubt this one. Elio Revé Matos and his Orquesta Revé
made a kind of salsa they call Changüi. This record contains
a few songs we’ve heard on other albums also, but that can’t
spoil the fun. Everything we find from these guys is posted
without hesitation. Great sound .. listen and enjoy ..

a career that spans over sixty years. He was the hit of Colombia’s
50’s and 60’s. The album we’ve got for you today is from 1970, 50
years of age and still very hot. Anibal was hospitalized last year
with a severe lung infection, let’s hope he’s doing better

This is DCM-407 on the Discomoda label from Medellin, Colombia.
It first appeared in 1967. Tanta Ropa, (so many cloths) seems to be
a joke. The girl on the frontcover was naked at first. In a later sta-
dium they have drawn a little bikini over the picture. Still not en-
tirely comfortable, as if ‘Me Too’ already existed, Discomoda then
re-released the album under the title of the first song, ‘Ambiente
de Guaracha’, with another sleeve. (small pic) Luis Gonzalez, or Lucho,
was the frontman of the group. The record has some background noise,
the salsa however is still quite enjoyable. Get it, spread it and listen ..

Dit is DCM-407 op het Discomoda label uit Medellin, Colombia. De
plaat verscheen oorspronkelijk in 1967. Tanta Ropa (zoveel kleding)
lijkt een spottende titlel te zijn. het meisje op de hoes was oorspronkelijk
naakt maar in een later stadium is er een klein bikini’tje overheen getekend.
Nog niet helemaal comfortabel, alsof ‘Me Too’ reeds bestond, bracht Disco-
moda de plaat opnieuw uit. Nu met de titel van het eerste nummer, ‘Am-
biente de Guaracha’, en met een andere hoes. (zie kleine foto) Luis Gonzales
ofwel ‘Lucho’ was de leider van de band. Het album heeft wat achtergrond
geluid maar de salsa is nog steeds lekker. Down, deel en luister weer ..

The biggest chalenge in crate digging lies in finding records
from countries like Ethiopia, Angola and Panama to call a few.
From Panama for instance I only managed to find some sixteen
albums and a couple of singles. Find most of them here. One of
the most interesting artists from Panama is salsa great Francisco
“Bush” Buckley. We find him with ‘su Nuevo Sonido’ or, like on this
elpee we’ve got today, with ‘sus magnificos’. It concerns a rare
record from 1972. On the internet it’s being sold for huge
amounts. A marvelous salsa experience it brings ..

Als crate digger ligt een van de grootste uitdagingen in het
vinden van platen uit landen als Ethiopië, Angola en Panama
om er enkele te noemen. Uit Panama bijvoorbeeld heb ik in
al de jaren verzamelen slechts zo’n zestien elpees kunnen
vinden en nog enkele singletjes. Vind de meeste hier. Een
van de meest interessante artiesten uit Panama is salsa
grootheid Francisco “Bush” Buckley. We vinden hem met

Tony Moncada en zijn combo spelen de meest krachtige
Colombiaanse tunes op deze plaat uit 1976. Variërend
van salsa tot paseo en merengue, hangt de sound tussen
vallenato en tropical met de zangers Armando Hernández,
Nacho Paredes en de broers Lenín en Francisco Bueno.
Het album verschijnt op Caliente en dat is de muziek
ook zonder enige wijfel, hot hot Colombian gold ..

Tony Moncada y su Combo play the most powerful Colom-
bian tunes on this record from 1976. Moving between salsa
to paseo and merengue, the sound varies from vallenato
to tropical with singers Armando Hernández, Nacho Paredes
and the brothers Lenín and Francisco Bueno. This album
appears on Caliente and that cant most certainly be said
about the music, hot hot Colombian gold ..
