Etsako people are one of the major ethnic groups in Edo State, Nigeria.
They presently occupy three local government areas of Edo State; these
are Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central, with Agenebode, Auchi
and Fugar as their administrative headquarters. In some quarters the
people of Owan are referred to as Etsako. The Etsakos, Owans, and Akoko
-Edo people are often referred to as the Afenmai (Edo-North)This is due to
their close linguistic and historical relationship.

Etsakor people are widely known for their Etsakor music, with artists like
Honourable Vincent Ugabi, Sir Alhaji Waziri Oshomah, Late General Boliviia
Osigbeme, Late Madam Agbaobesi, Benji Igbadumhe, Agbi Dance Groups
of Weppa Wanno and Omoake Oshiomha .. etcetera, that entertain a large
number of Nigerians both in Edo & Delta states to Lagos, Kaduna, Kano

Our visitor ‘Good to Go’ asked me to do this theme week of Afenmai Sound.
Your timing was perfect Good to Go, this weekend I met with Global Groove’s
main supplier of Etsakor music, Sofiane from France, at the Utrecht record
fair and found some more treasures. Next to Sir Waziri Oshomah, I can
let you hear some wonderful other artists from the area we spoke of ..
P.S. every album we have this week shall have some noise, this type
of records is impossible to find without little disturbance.

Een van onze bezoekers, ‘Good to Go’, vroeg me vorige onlangs of ik een
thema week met Afenmai Sound zou kunnen maken. Hij kwam daarmee
perfect op tijd omdat ik het afgelopen weekend Global Groove’s
belangrijkste leverancier van Etsakor muziek, Sofiane uit Frankrijk, op de
beurs in Utrecht weer zou ontmoeten. Naast platen van Sir Waziri Oshomah
heb ik nog wat andere pareltjes op de kop getikt welke deze week de revue
zullen passeren. P.S. Alle platen die deze week geplaatst worden zullen
enig gekraak vertonen, ze zijn onmogelijk te vinden in perfecte staat.

Heb je wel eens van ‘Gambus’ gehoord ? Het is een Indonesische
muziek stijl uit Sumatra. Dit is normaal natuurlijk een sound die
je vindt bij collega blogger Henk Madrotter.
Hij heeft zo’n anderhalf honderd posts met deze muziek, neem
eens een kijkje bij Henk. Ik vond gisteren wat van deze platen op
de beurs in Utrecht en ga er eens een paar plaatsen, ten slotte
is dit de Global Groove, luister zelf ..

Have you heard of ‘Gambus’ ? It is an Indonesian music style from
Sumatra. Normally ofcourse this a type of sound we find at the site
of our friend Henk Madrotter.
He has some one hundred and fifty albums or tapes with it, take a look
at Henk’s place. Yesterday I found some of these records at the Utrecht
record fair and try a couple here, besides this is the Global Groove.
Get it, spread it and listen ..

After a couple of busy days today we’re back online with
this killer record. Lita bembo and Stukas had such a style
of their own, it is incomparable with any other. You can
recognize it in an anstant. Always happy party music.

Na enkele drukke dagen zijn we vandaag terug online met
deze waanzinnig mooie plaat. Lita Bembo en zijn Stukas
hadden zo’n unieke stijl, onvergelijkbaar met welke dan
ook. Je herkent ze uit duizenden in een ogenblik. Altijd
zeer blije uptempo feest sound. Uit 1985 en op Disco
Stock, down, deel en beleef ..

Yesterday I thought I was posting Sikiru Ayinde Barrister but received
the following comment by Ayo;

“Moos, this is not Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. This is his protégé. He started
out as a roadie in his band, then left to form his own band. That’s why
he took his nickname. He’s simply known as Wasiu Ayinde, but he’s
gone by different names over the years. King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall,
KWAM1, and now he goes by the name K1 De Ultimate. Please post
more of his and Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s albums.”

I clearly got mislead and make up for that mistake today.
Now this truly is Sikiru Ayinde Barrister with an album from 1981.
Heavy duty fuji from the master himself, listen and enjoy ..

Gisteren plaatste ik een album in de veronderstelling dat het de grote
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister betrof waarbij hij een ietwat andere naam had
gebruikt. Ik werd in de maling genomen door een van zijn fanatieke
volgers zoals blijkt uit het voorafgaande commentaar van Ayo hetgeen
ik niet vertaal, zie boven. Vandaag maak ik mijn stommiteit goed door
een plaatje van de meester zelf te posten. Luister en huiver met
de vette fuji sound van Alhaji ‘Chief’ Sikiru Ayinde Barrister ..

From Panama we’ve got this oldie with the orchestra of Armando
Boza. Fourteen tracks in guaracha and bolero style. The backsleeve
and label do not agree on the tracklist. I show the sleeve in the post
but stick to the label in naming the tracks. Somehow this seems more
reliable. Shame we didn’t find a year of release on this one. Listening
is the most important anyhow. Get it and spread it ..

Vandaag hebben we deze gouwe ouwe uit Panama met het orkest van
Armando Boza. Veertien nummers in Guaracha en bolero stijl. De hoes
en het label zijn het niet geheel eens over de titels. Ik plaats daarom de
foto van de hoes en houd me aan het label met de titels, dit lijkt me het
meest betrouwbaar. Helaas vinden we nergens het jaar van uitgave van
deze plaat, maar goed, beluisteren is toch het belangrijkst.

bevat dan voornoemde elpee.De geluidskwaliteit is buitengewoon.

The numbers Mazé and Mr. Malonga were also present on this
record we had by Rochereau, from 1982 and on Disco Stock. Today
we have this album on Editions Vévé International which contains
two different tracks than the latter. Its sound quality is extraordinary.

Goedemorgen, gaan we verder vandaag met wat compas uit Haïti.
Nog niet eerder op de Global Groove, met hun eerste plaat uit 1979
is dit Shoogar Combo. Op Mini Records vinden we deze bijzondere
vijf songs. Zwoele sound, prachtig gespeeld, ik ben om ..

1979, this is the Shoogar Combo. On Mini Records we find these

We vinden Calixto, Felix en Eliecer Ochoa op deze vallenato disc
uit 1975 en op Discos Fuentes. De plaat staat op naam van Calixto
en Felix, Eliecer speelt de accordeon volgens de backsleeve. Twaalf
krachtige nummers van de broers waarvan Calixto de meest bekende
is. Deze plaat dient als afsluiter van de Semana Vallenata, dank voor
het uitzitten, ik had nog weken door kunnen gaan maar morgen doen
we weer iets anders. Variatie houdt het ook voor de anders denkenden
weer boeiend. Download, luister en deel ..

We find calixto, Felix and Eliecer Ochoa on this vallenato disc from 1975
and on Discos Fuentes. The album is on the name of Calixto and Felix,
Eliecer plays the acordeon states the backsleeve of the record. Twelve
strong numbers by the brothers of whom Calixto is the best known one.
This elpee is the closing piece of our Semana Vallenata. thank you for
sustaining, I could have went on for weeks but tomorrow we’ll do
something else again. variety keeps up the spirit for everybody,
