I was asked if there was more in this series and it just so
happens there is. I almost forgot about it. This one comes from
cd and it is from 1989. The songs the copper miners from the
early years in Zambia used to sing. Not only miners but also
minstrels who travelled from mine to mine putting on shows
in the compounds for a living. We hear about three languages,
Aushi, Bemba and Luunda. Bemba and Luunda being from Zaïre.

Ik kreeg de vraag of er meer delen in deze serie beschikbaar
waren en ik vergat bijna deze. Hij komt van cd en verscheen in
1989. We vinden hier de muziek van de kopermijnwerkers uit
de ‘Copperbelt’. We horen niet alleen de mijnwerkers maar ook
rondtrekkende muzikanten die van mijn naar mijn trokken en
shows opzetten om hun brood te verdienen. We horen hier
voornamelijk de talen, Aushi, Bemba en Luunda. Bemba en
Luunda zijn talen die uit Zaïre stammen.

It is just because of that album I found out tracks two and three
have been switched on label and backsleeve of the record we
have today. The second song is Ursulla with the Black Star
Music Club which we know from the earlier post. I can only
hope that the other songs are the ones given on sleeve and
label and in that correct order. Taarab or ‘Tarabu’ is a type of
music, almost Arabic or Indian. To get a better idea, you should

Tot nu toe hadden we slechts één plaat met dit soort muziek.
Je kunt hem hier vinden.
Doordat we dit album al kennen ontdekte ik dat titels twee en drie
verwisseld zijn op hoes en label van het album dat we vandaag
hebben. Het tweede nummer is Ursulla en de Black Star Music
Club welke we van de vorige posting kennen. Ik kan slechts hopen
dat de rest van de nummers de juiste zijn en in de juiste volgorde
staan. Taarab of ‘Tarabu’ is een oost Afrikaanse muziekstijl die
veel doet denken aan Arabische of Indiaase muziekstijlen. Om

Hoe deze muziekstijl wordt genoemd weet ik niet precies.
De groep komt van de Kaap Verdische Eilanden, Luis Morais
werkt erop mee. Het is geen morna of coladera. In het eerste
nummer hoor je dat ze het over samba hebben, in de titels lees
je cumbia, merengue en carnaval, hoe dan ook, deels instrumentaal
en deels gezongen vind ik het zeer het beluisteren waard, kijk zelf
wat je ervan vindt en geef hem weer door..

Na enkele comments van beter wetenden heb ik de tag Cabo Verde
veranderd in Angola. Ik had zelf beter moeten weten ..

How to call this musical style, I really wouldn’t know exactly. The
group is from the Cape Verdian Islands, Luis Morais participates.
It is no morna and no coladera. During the first song we hear they
mention it to be samba, in the titles we read cumbia, merengue
and carnaval. One way or the other, partly instrumental and partly
sung I think it is very much worth listening to. Make up your own
mind about it and pass it on to your friends..

After some comments of those who know better, I have changed the
tag Cabo Verde in Angola, I should have known better myself ..

De Martelo broertjes spelen een vrolijke noot op deze gouwe
ouwe. Verschillende stijlen passeren de revue, brinca-brinca,
pasaje, cumbia, pata pata, cumbión, porro, pasadoble, bolero,
Paseaíto en merengue. Ze konden er wat van deze jongens..

Na jaren in Nederland de beurzen te hebben afgezocht,
nauwelijks een plaatje uit Angola kunnen vinden. Er zat
maar één ding op, naar Portugal waar vanzelfsprekend
meer te vinden zou zijn. En zo was het, in Lissabon vond
ik diverse handelaren die me verder konden helpen. Wat
een gelukje om deze pracht verzamelaar te vinden. Hij is
in prima staat en bevat diverse semba’s van verschillende
artiesten met grote namen. Mooie hoes, heerlijke sound..

After years of searching the fairs here in the Netherlands,
hardly any succes in finding records from Angola. There was
only one solution within reach, taking a trip to Portugal to
be in a better position. And so it turned out I found various
record dealers in Lisbon that could help me out. How lucky
I got finding this rare and wonderful collector. It is in fine
condition and contains various semba’s by some of the
greatest in the field. Pretty sleeve, awesome sound..

Goeiemorgen groevers, ik was even zes dagen op pad, vandaar
de mediastilte. Crate digging in Portugal op zoek naar bijzondere
platen uit Brazilië, Angola en Kaap verdië. Vandaag weer thuis met
diverse mooie platen. Om te beginnen deze tamelijk speciale forró
elpee. Hij gaat online voor zo’n 85 tot 100 eurootjes. Ik heb deze
slechts even te leen om hem voor jou te kunnen plaatsen hier op
de GG. Helaas heeft hij wel enkele tikjes en kraakjes, luister..

Good morning groovers, We had us a small six day break because
I was crate digging in Portugal. Goal of the mission was to find some
special records from Brazil, Angola and Cabo Verde. Today we’re back
home with various nice elpees. To begin with this quite special Forró
album by Camarão. Online it goes for some 85 to 100 euro’s. I just lent
this copy to be able to post it for you. Unfortunately it has a few pops
and crackles, still it’s worth at least a couple of spins..

An extremely rare album from Uganda today, it is by Peterson
T. Mutebi with the Tames – Abawala Bimuli vol. 2. The elpee has
no sleeve and we have no information. From the label we know
that the songs are written by Peterson T. Mutebi, W. Mukasa,
Willy Mubiru, Ronie O. Musisi, Peter Kabaale Super and Ronald
Ndema Ringo. That’s as far as it goes..enjoy listening.

This is part one from a series of three albums with classic calypso
songs. It has been posted by others in the past but they are worth
being here once more. It opens with a song by the Sparrow which
I heard first on Van Dyke Parks ‘Discover America’ without knowing
what I was listening to. Meantime this is history, listen..

Hier hebben we deel 1 van een serie van drie platen vol klassieke
calypso hits. Hij is in het verleden reeds door anderen geplaatst
maar verdient het nog eens opnieuw onder de aandacht gebracht
te worden. De plaat opent met een nummer van de Sparow welk
ik voor het eerst hoorde op Van Dyke Parks’ ‘Discover America’.

This is the first ever record we have from Guinee Bissau. The music
has a feel, slightly connected to the music from Angola. Both are
Portuguese speaking. They are a part by great distance so probably
I am talking nonsense but that’s my first feeling. One way or the other,
it sounds quite interesting. It seems this album used to be very expensive
but the recent discovery of stock made it affordable now. Listen..

Hier hebben we de eerste plaat die we zien uit Guinee Bissau. De muziek
doet rakelings denken aan die uit Angola. Misschien omdat beide landen
Portugees talig zijn, misschien raaskal ik nu maar zo voelt het. Hoe dan
ook, het klinkt zeer interessant en spannend op de één of andere manier.
Het schijnt dat deze plaat een tijd lang heel duur was maar door de recente
ontdekking van een partijtje verstopte exemplaren is hij nu redelijker
geprijsd. Luister naar N’Kassa Cobra..
