Hard to find album by Etoile de Dakar with a young Youssou
N’Dour. Contains some of their very best songs like Thiely and
a cover of Duo Los Ahijados’ Hombre Misterioso Soy. The record
is as good as new and sounds wonderful. very lucky find from
some years ago. Also check Absa Gueye and the Senegal section.

Dit is een plaatje met een nog jonge Youssou N’Dour en zijn
band Etoile de Dakar. Een moeilijk te vinden stuk Senegalese
muziek geschiedenis dat enkele van hun mooiste nummers bevat
waaronder Thiely en een cover van Duo Los Ahijados’ Hombre
Misterioso Soy. De plaat bevindt zich in top conditie en klinkt
prachtig. Een gelukkige vondst van enkele jaren terug. Luister
ook naar Absa Gueye. Plezier ..

Tweede elpee in de shangaan stijl die we hier hebben. De vorige
was ook van M.D. Shirinda & Gaza Sisters en werd geplaatst op
8 juli j.l. Shangaan is een vorm van Zulu, Zuid Afrikaanse muziek
die aan de Tsonga gerelateerd is. Net als de vorige plaat is ook
deze op het Buffalo label en uit 1981. Veel luister plezier..

Second album we have here in the shangaan style. The previous
one was also by M.D. Shirinda & Gaza Sisters en was posted on
july 8th. Shangaan is related to the Tsonga people and part of
the Zulu, South African culture. Like the other record, this one
is also on the Buffalo label and from 1981. Enjoy listening..

Good morning folks, it is about time for some more samba. We

10. Today volume 4 with Genaro and Bebeto di São João. The samba
is full of satiric lyrics and funny stories as usual in this scene.
It is irresistible stuff to some of us, you can count me in..

From 1968 and on CoxSone Records this is the great Jackie
Mittoo. After Macka Fat, this the second album we have by
Jackie. The sound quality is not the best but the music is hot.
Jackie Mittoo who died way too young at only 42 was one
of Jamaica’s most impressive instumentalists, enjoy..

Uit 1968 en op CoxSone Records hebben we de grote Jackie
Mittoo. Na Macka Fat is dit de tweede plaat die we van hem
hebben. De geluidskwaliteit is niet de beste maar de muziek
daarentegen wel. Jackie Mittoo, die helaas veel te jong stierf,
slechts 42 jaar oud, was één van Jamaica’s meest belovende
instrumentalisten.

We hadden al twee keer eerder een plaatje van deze
Super Boboto du Congo ofwel Orchestre SBB du Congo.
Ééntje uit 1975 en een andere uit 1979. Van deze hebben
we helaas geen jaar van uitgave gevonden. Blog vriend
Aidan is de man die ze opduikt in Afrika en deze kant op
brengt. Dank je Aidan. Stuk voor stuk heerlijke platen..

We had us two albums by these guys on earlier occasions.
SBB du Congo or Orchestre SBB or les Super Boboto du Congo
were here with a record from 1975 and one from 1979, this one
comes without a year of release unfortunately. Our friend Aidan
brought back this one and the last we had from Africa. Thanks
a whole lot Aidan. One by one wonderful elpees..

They used to call him El Pollo Vallenato, Luis Enrique Martinez
was one of the greatest in the field. Here at the Global Groove
we are huge admirers of his work. This album was re-released
in 1979 as Realeza Vallenata vol. 5. We are happy to have the
original 1975 issue. Listen and give him a chance..

El Pollo Vallenato noemden ze hem, Luis Enrique Martinez was
één van de grootsten in zijn vakgebied. Hier op de Global Groove
zijn we enorme liefhebbers van zijn werk. Deze plaat is heruitge-
bracht als Realeza Vallenata vol.5 in 1979. We zijn verheugd hier
het origineel uit 1975 te hebben. Luister en geef hem een kans..

Wat weten we wel en wat weten we niet vandaag.. ?
We weten dat het hier een band betreft uit Congo, Brazzaville.
Dat was niet zo moeilijk. De stijl, cavacha. Het jaar 1979. Record
Company, Sonafric. Hier houdt het echter reeds op. Wat we niet
weten, wie zijn deze jongens ? Ka.Ma.Sol, de Ka staat waarschijnlijk
voor Kandza André. de Sol voor Jean David Soloka, de Ma is
onduidelijk. De twee bekende namen leveren op Google ook al
geen resultaat op. Hoe dan ook, wel een lekkere plaat..

What do we know and what don’t we know today..?
We know it concerns a group from Congo, Brazzaville. That was
the easy part. The style, cavacha. The year 1979. Record company,
Sonafric. This is where it ends already. What we don’t know, who are
these guys ? Ka.Ma.Sol, the Ka stands for Kandza André probably.
The Sol for Jean David Soloka, the Ma is unclear. The two names
we find don’t give anything useful when searched for at Google.
One way or the other, nice record..

Bana is back here today with an album on which coladera and
morna. The Cape Verdian atmosphere is always a delight liste-
ning to. Especially the morna’s are favourite here.
Mellow stuff from 1969..

Bana is terug bij ons met deze plaat waarop coladera en morna.
Het sfeertje van de Kaap verdische eilanden is altijd weer fijn,

Later beter bekend als Mighty Sparrow begon Slinger Francisco
zijn carrière onder de naam Sparrow. Het was de gewoonte dat
zangers rustig stonden als ze zongen. Slinger echter schudde met
z’n lichaam waarop hij de bijnaam ‘Mus’ kreeg welke vervolgens
een eigen leven ging leiden. Deze plaat is uit 1962, een periode
van grote populariteit voor de jonge Sparrow. Rond 1961 was hij
nog King gekroond. Mighty Sparrow is nu 83 jaar en nog steeds
actief. Acht jaar geleden heb ik hem nog zien optreden. Ook
toen nog kon de oude man z’n onderlichaam niet stil houden..

Later better known as Mighty Sparrow, Slinger Francisco started
his career as Sparrow. Singers used to just stand still and sing but
the young Slinger kept moving his body which gave him the name
of Sparrow. This record is from 1962, just after he had lost the title
of King in 1961. It was a period of great popularity though. Mighty
Sparrow now reached the age of 83 and is still active. I saw him in
the Amsterdam Paradiso eight years ago. The old man was even
then flirting with his public, making obscene moves all the time..
