Sixth in row in this week of juju we’ve got the great I.K. Dairo and
his Blue Spot. From 1980 and on Skylark Records this is an ode to
Ayinla Omowura, an apala star. We’ll get back to him one fine day.
I.K. Dairo is the one juju artist who used the accordion in his music.
The records on which are rare however, sorry, not this one. Always
on the lookout for his records, unfortunately they are hard to find.
The various online discographies are far from complete, he made
many but little is displayed. Get and share as usual..

Zesde in rij tijdens onze week van de juju is de grote I.K. Dairo met
zijn band de Blue Spot. Uit 1980 en op Skylark Records is dit een ode
aan Ayinla Omowura, een apala ster over wie een andere keer meer.
I.K. Dairo is voor zover ik weet de enige juju artiest die de accordeon
gebruikte. De platen waarop hij dit doet zijn helaas zeldzaam, sorry,
niet op deze dus. Ondanks de eeuwige zoektocht naar zijn platen
vinden we ze slechts spaarzaam. De diverse online discografieën
zijn helaas verre van compleet. Hij maakte er vele maar weinige
zijn terug te vinden. Veel luisterplezier met deze plaat..

In this continuing story of juju craze I’d like to introduce Professor
Y.K. Ajao (N.J.K.). He began his musical career in 1962. It kind of went
downhill early eighties but with the help of Alhaji Ayinde Barrister
he got back in the saddle. The good professor worships Chief
Commander Ebenezer Obey, of whom more later. Today this
1991 album. B-side opens with some sort of juju ballad but
overall this is an inspiring slice of sparkling, strong juju..

In deze week van de juju gekte wil ik je vandaag kennis laten
maken met Professor Y.K. Ajao (N.J.K.). Hij begon zijn muzikale
carriere op negenjarige leeftijd in 1962. Begin jaren tachtig raakte
deze wat in het slop maar met de hulp van Alhaji Ayinde Barrister
kwam hij er weer bovenop. De professor aanbidt Chief Commander
Ebenezer Obey van wie later meer. Vndaag dit album uit 1991. Kant-B
opent met een soort juju balade maar over het geheel is dit een
sterke en inspirerende juju plaat, luister en geef weer door..

Gisteren spraken we reeds over deze man. Uit de school van
General Prince Adekunle dus hebben we vandaag een elpee
van Segun Adewale. Uit 1985 en op Stern’s is dit een zeer
stevige juju plaat. Dikke talking drums en een geluid dat lijkt
te zijn afgestemd op de westerse markt. Een stuk moderner
dan de platen die we voorgaande dagen hebben gehoord.

Yesterday we already spoke about this man. From the school
of General Prince Adekunle this is Segun Adewale. An album
from 1985 on Stern’s. This is very powerful juju, fat back talking
drums and a sound that seems to be more adjusted to the
western listener. A lot more modern than the records
we heard the past few days. Listen to it yourself
and make up your mind about it..

Today we bring you this quite unknown album by a juju artist
that always was a little under estimated. General Prince Adekunle
was here on three earlier occasions. He was the teacher of guys
like Sir Shina Peters and Segun Adewale but never became as
famous as his students. The record we have here does not appear
in online discographies like discogs and wikipedia. It is from 1976.
Unfortunately it has a little background noise but hey,
try finding it in better condition..

Vandaag brengen we je deze tamelijk onbekende plaat van een
juju artiest die altijd een tikkeltje ondergewaardeerd is gebleven.
Hij was de leraar van jongens als Sir Shina Peters en Segun Adewale
maar werd niet zo beroemd als zijn leerlingen. We hadden reeds drie
van zijn albums, deze wordt niet genoemd in de diverse online disco-
grafieën zoals op Discogs en Wikipedia. Hij stamt uit 1976. Helaas
heeft de elpee ietwat achtergrond geruis maar hey,
probeer hem eens in betere conditie te vinden..

Op veler verzoek vandaag meer King Sunny Adé. We hadden er al
30 van zijn hand. Sommige als Sunny Adé, anderen Als King Sunny
Adé. Het is reeds een hele stapel. Altijd weer lekkere mellow Juju.
Eenmaal in de juju flow zal ik er nog een paar doen, stay tuned..

Requested by many, today another King Sunny Adé. We already
had some 30 by his hand. Some as Sunny Adé, some as King Sunny
Adé. It is becoming quite a pile. Nice mellow juju as always. Once

Raadsel; Wat rijmt er op twaalf ? Haha, helemaal niets. Dit is nummer
twaalf als we het hebben over de platen van Dele Abiodun hier aan de
Global Groove. Zijn muziek vindt al jaren enthousiaste luisteraars bij
ons en ik weet zeker dat ook deze plaat niet teleur zal stellen. Vind je
ook niet dat de King Admiral er super funky uitziet ? Lang leve juju.
Deze plaat verkeert in top conditie..

This must be the twelfth album we have by Dele Abiodun. It is from 1975
and sounds just wonderful. His music always finds a lot of enthusiastic
listeners here and I’m sure this elpee will do as well. The King Admiral
looks super funky don’t you agree, long live juju music.
This record is in perfect condition..

Over het algemeen zijn we hier bij de Global Groove vooral
aanhangers van het lied. Instumentale platen maken toch
minder kans geplaatst te worden. Een enkele keer mag
hierop echter een uitzondering worden gemaakt. Als het
een plaatje als deze betreft waarop de accordeon de rol
van de vocalist heeft overgenomen bijvoorbeeld.
Deze plaat is nog als gloedje nieuw..

In general here at the Global groove we are supporters of
the song. Instrumental records make a significent smaller
chance of being posted. A single time however an exception
is made. If it concerns an album on which the acordeon took
over the place of the vocals for instance.

various artists in the field. This is the pure and uncut samba
like we love it. Aniceto do Imperio is the teacher,

Drie van de mooiste stemmen zingen nummers van een van
de grootste componisten uit Zaïre. Dit is zo prachtig, ik ben er
ondersteboven van. De fluwelen stem van Carlito, de warmte
van Pépé Kallé en de krachtige vibrato van Madilu tezamen.
..En dan de muziek van Simaro-Massiya, het is maar een kort
plaatje, 45 toeren op 12 inch, maar heel mooi.

Three of the most magnificent voices sing songs of one of the
greatest composers from Zaïre. This is so wonderful, I am blown
away by it. The velvet voice of Carlito, the warmth of Pépé Kallé
and the powerful vibrato of Madilu together. ..And then the music
of Simaro-Massiya, it is a short record, a 45 on 12 inch but
very nice. We already had Maya but Verre
Cassé not yet..

He was known from typical Combo and as guitarist played
with many artists from Guadeloupe, Martinique and Haïti.
This is one of his most famous albums. Wether it is Cadence
or Zouk, to be honest I don’t know. I do know it is very
enjoyable however. Get it and spread it..

Hij was bekend van zijn rol bij Typical Combo en speelde als
gitarist met veel artiesten uit Guadeloupe, Martinique en
Haïti. Dit is een van zijn bekendere albums. Of het nu Zouk
is of Cadence, k weet het eerlijk gezegd niet. Wat ik wel
weet is dat het lekker wegluistert. Down en deel..
