During the summer months we can rely on several record-
markets and fairs throughout the Netherlands. Last week
I ended up in Alkmaar. The records were not very special
but on a square around the corner played a wonderful band.
It was a group put together for the occasion which played
a bunch of tunes from the summer of love, 1967. I had a
real good time. To find records like this one by Abel Antonio
Villa however one needs to travel to Colombia I’m afraid.

Tijdens de zomer is er in nederland altijd wel ergens een
platen-markt of beurs. Vorige week ben ik in Alkmaar beland.
De platenmarkt zelf had weinig te bieden maar op het plein
speelde een heerlijke gelegenheidsformatie die allerlei tunes
speelde uit de summer of love, 1967, ik heb me zeer vermaakt.
Zoals gezegd weinig spectaculair vinyl, een plaat als deze van
Abel Antonio Villa tref je er niet aan, daarvoor moeten we toch
echt naar Colombia, misschien volgende week daar eens heen..

I know a man somewhere in the north of our low lands, he
once told me he has a certain weekness for another man,
or for his music, or both maybe. The second man I’m referring
to suffered from a stroke some five years ago and I can’t seem
to find any info on his current condition. Rodrigue Milien was the
leader of Combite Creole of which I am glad to bring another
album today. It appeared on Marc Records in 1975.
This stuff makes me just as happy as the first man.

Ik ken een man ergens in het Noorden van de lage landen
die een zwak heeft voor weer een andere man, of eigenlijk
voor zijn muziek, of beiden, hoe je wil. Die tweede man in
dit verhaal kreeg zo’n vijf jaar terug een beroerte en ik kan
nu eigenlijk niet vinden hoe het met hem gaat. Rodrigue
Milien was de aanvoerder van Combite Creole en bij deze
doe ik jullie nog een van zijn werkjes. De plaat verscheen
op Marc Records in 1975, ik word hier net zo blij van als
jij G., deze is voor jou kameraad, dank voor je steun..

In june 2016 we already had us this album with Bartolo
Alvarado, Maria Diáz, Arsenio de la Rosa and this man.
Four biggies at the accordion from the Dominican Repu-
blic. They play merengue in Ripiao style, incredible fast
fingers running over their instruments, almost impossible
to follow for us Western Europeans. Lately I’ve been a lot
on Youtube listening to this type of sound, you should
try a little yourself, for now, listen to the bionic
hands of King de la Rosa..

Vorig jaar in juni hadden we al een elpeetje met Bartolo
Alvarado, Maria Diáz, Arsenio de la Rosa en met deze man.
Vier groten op de accordeon uit de Dominicaanse Republiek.
Zij spelen de merengue in Ripiao stijl, supervlugge vingers
schieten over de klavieren, bijna onnavolgbaar voor ons als
West Europeanen. De laatste tijd zit ik met regelmaat op
Youtube weg te dromen bij dit soort klanken. Je moet er
eens naar zoeken, prachtig spul, luister naar
de bionische handen van King de la Rosa..

Het is zo’n dag vandaag, echt zat goeie muziek om te
plaatsen hoor, dus daar ga ik dan ook vrolijk mee door.
Ik ben het alleen zat altijd dezelfde woorden te gebruiken
zonder ook maar iets zinnigs over de muziek te vertellen.
Tja Gerrit, jij zei van de week nog, je was zeker sprakeloos
van deze plaat. Nee hoor, ik ben gewoon mijn eigen schrijven
beu. Soms zeg ik liever niets dan altijd dezelfde stomme teksten
te gebruiken, mooi prachtig, geweldige plaat bla bla.. Als je na
het luisteren van de plaat meer wil weten, ga het web op,
dat is tenslotte wat ik ook altijd doe om iets te vertellen..

This is the second album we found by Franklin Boukaka, the
previous one was posted in march 2012. You don’t see them
very often so I suggest you don’t let it slip through your fingers.
On the Pathé Marconi label so quality is certain. Boukaka was
born on october 10, 1940 and assassinated february 22, 1972
only 32 years of age. He was singer, guitarist and songwriter..

In maart 2012 hadden we één van zijn platen en dit is dus de
tweede die we van zijn hand vinden. Vaak kom je ze niet tegen
daarom zou ik willen zeggen, laat hem niet glippen. Op het label
van Pathé Marconi dus kwaliteit verzekerd. Boukaka, geboren
op 10 oktober 1940 werd vermoord op 22 februari 1972, slechts
32 jaar oud. Hij was zanger, gitarist en songwriter..

Ever since my first encounter with the music from Panama,
I am on the lookout for singles and elpees from over there.
Not an easy job, especially when one lives in Western Europe.
Now I believe in persisting and look, today I can bring you this
little collection of singles and I am very glad to be able doing so.
Some are a little scratchy, hope you’ll enjoy them anyway..

Er is weinig muziek zo moeilijk te vinden als die uit Panama.
Maar zoals gezegd, de aanhouder wint en na enkele jaren
zoeken en struinen heb ik vandaag een bescheiden stapeltje
singletjes voor je op schijf gezet en tot Mp3’s omgetoverd.

cumbia Panama style, pak snel en geniet ze deze zomer..

We’ve had albums by Kabaka’s International Guitar Band,
like this one. We had a bunch of records by the Oriental
Brothers of which Godwin Kabaka was also part with his
brothers Dansatch and Warrior. This 1980 release still
sounds very fine, most of time we find them in lesser
condition. Lucky if you’re a lover of Nigerian highlife,
get & spread as usual..

Meestal vinden we ze in mindere staat maar deze uit 1980
doet het nog prima. We hadden al diverse plaatjes van
Kabaka’s Guitar Band zoals deze maar ook een zwik met
z’n Oriental broertjes Dansatch en Warrior. Hoe dan ook,
Nigeriaanse highlife zoals we die graag horen, luister zelf..

Dit was de eerste plaat die ik van deze jongens hoorde jaren
terug, hij maakte direkt diepe indruk op me. Het werd dan ook
tijd dat ik hem aanbood en vandaag is het zover. Luister zelf op
deze zondagmiddag, lekker wegdromen met een regenbuitje
op de achtergrond..

We had two of his albums so far and it was about time
to follow up on those. Sweet juju music from 1976.
I’d say, get it and spread it as usual..

dat dacht ik al. General Prince Adekunle had reeds
twee plaatjes bij ons en het werd hoog tijd voor
